Biggest Transformers toy flop of 2007?

Recommended Posts

I just dont get the unleashed, turnarounds, or the Robo-reps...

I konw its been said before - but these had the potential to be really awesome collectibles/actionfigures/representations of the characters.

what we ended up getting were really really half assed.

not even -maybe Quarter-Assed

Unleashed Bumblebee is pretty cool...

The Robo-reps could have been much better, if they had detailed (and more carefully applied) paint apps - but I'll agree with you on the Turnarounds, they really did suck.

Personally I think Leader Megatron (and to a lesser degrees the other Megatron's*) is a big flop.

Optimus Prime is excellent with a great robot mode and perhaps the best vehicle mode EVER for Optimus Prime and compared to that Megatron just falls short.

But even not compared Megatron is a poor figure, especially for the price.

*Save for the Voyager whom I do not yet own. Well, I do own the metallic Best Buy version but kept it MISB to save the collector's value. :tftongue He does look decent in robot mode and the metallic color helps a LOT.

how can you call any of the rest a flop considering it's always sold out....

yeah i'm not in any hurry to get any of the movie figures right now, i've found most of them to be less than satisfying but damn.... how do you say something that keeps selling out is a flop?

So my question to you all is this:

Which TF toy from 2007 was the biggest flop for you? Was there a particular figure that you were REALLY looking forward to and when you got it, you kind of thought to yourself "Why did I buy this P.O.S.?"?

ReverendNash: to be honest, I haven't really paid much attention to the prices of Robot Replicas here as I'm just completely uninterested in that line... I just kinda guessed that they would be at a cheaper price (because selling them at the same price as a deluxe just sounds kuh-raaaazy) - but yeah, if they're selling at the same RRP as Deluxes then I would agree that the Robot Replicas would rank as greater flops than Deluxe Scorponok. Scorponok's still a sh!t toy but. :P

Goki, is it just me or do you notice we seem to bicker a lot?

Could it be love? :luv

Btw, I'm noticing that a lot of people who are saying that they totally hate the entire movie line aren't really backing it up with why they hate the movie line.

If it's to do with the cosmetic features, e.g.: looks of faces, colours etc, that's not really the toys' fault. These toys are attempting to mimic the movie look. If you don't like the movie look, then that's Dreamworks' fault. You need to explain why you think the toy fails as a toy - like Autobot Jazz's arms, Decepticon Brawl's shoulders or Blackout's stupid rotor gimmick.

But overall I do like the movie line. :)

My biggest problem with the movie line is the lack of weapons. Especially for the Decepticons.

Of the movie Decepticons, only Blackout had any kind of removable weaponry. Brawl had plenty built in, and Starscream had missile launchers for hands, but still... Barricade would have gained a lot from a weapon. Ditto for Blackout, his rotor thing was awful.

And the Real Gears! Even Energon and Cybertron basics had weapons... why was it impossible for them to have anything? Really, something to hold in their hands would have made the line infinitely more enjoyable.

Again, one could argue this is more the "fault" of Dreamworks than Hasbro, aside from Blackout, most of the 'bots in question never had a weapon in the movie. The only one who got a "non-canon" weapon was Jazz, and even his sniper-rifle-speargun thingie was featured in some of the concept art.

[Although, I guess this doesn't excuse the Rear Gears for being weapon-less, since they were (sort of) non-canon from the start.]

Any kind of a removable blaster for Blackout would've done wonders for the figure. Or something. Instead, he doesn't get a single weapon from the movie, just an incredibly awkward rotar... thing. I mean, 76 Bumblebee has the awesome shoulder/handheld cannons, and those aren't EXACTLY screen-accurate. Barricade could've gotten his blade-wheel thing. ANYTHING really.

Giving the Real-Gear toys weapons would defeat the purpose of them. They're role-play items (as well as robots, obviously) & the weapons could get lost. You need to look at it from a kids point of view, because I never brought my weapons out of the hose when I played with my toys, I didn't want to lose them!

3-way between deluxe brawl, deluxe jazz, voyager megatron.
