Biggest Transformers toy flop of 2007?

Cyber Slammers are waaaaay below the level of Throttlebots (and even Battlechargers!).

From Cliffbee.com's Cyber Slammer Autobot Ratchet review:

"I've seen some fans compare the CyberSlammers to the Throttlebots - but the latter have legs, and while they're short, they ensure that the Throttlebot robot forms are robots - despite the bad proportions. Ratchet's shape is so far from a humanoid robot it's not funny. The arms are simply the doors, and unlike the G1 equivalents (Throttlebots, Battlechargers), they don't lift out to the sides at all, so they're just noise rather than limbs. There's no gap and while they lift up, springs ensure they spring back down, so we can't even use the arms to help with a humanoid shape. He's leaning forward, which means that the robot elements under the cabin are facing towards the floor - and this robot mode needs all the help it can get already.

The gimmick doesn't really justify the exceptionally poor robot shape. The idea is that you push down the robot onto the base and it'll roll forward. Okay, so pushing him down does reform the vehicle mode as they planned - which is nice - but from a standing start he rolls maybe 60cm/2 feet. A little more if you push him along as you do it, but this isn't enough to really be spectacular. He's far less impressive than the Throttlebots in this regard and about as impressive as the Battlechargers (but sturdier). The gimmick is dumbed right down for a young audience (we're talking 3 year olds), but I still don't see why such a poor gimmick was implemented when a better gimmick such as a pullback motor would have worked better, and given Ratchet a better robot mode.

On the whole this is a disappointing robot mode. The gimmick just isn't that impressive - I can see kids becoming bored with it awfully quickly. I was about eight years old when the Throttlebots came out, and had hours of fun with them - I can't see today's kids really appreciating this concept. Judging by the slow movement of CyberSlammers in stores around here, I don't think they've been that successful. The robot mode looks awful, so it really needed the gimmick to work, which compounds the lame gimmick, really. "

You can turn the head on Cyber Slammers. And arms move. No real legs but added poseability. :)

And Cyber Slammers are sold out everywhere I go. The reviewer's review is laughable at best. He's asking the toy to be something it wasn't meant to be. Just like all the ones whining about UBB not being another Masterpiece figure.

PS : My nephew is 2 1/2 year old and he loves Cyber Slammers.

At least he writes proper objective reviews (whether you agree with him or not)... but I'll talk more about that in the appropriate thread. :)

Objective?

"Ratchet's shape is so far from a humanoid robot it's not funny."

Subjective. It's a robot standing on a rolling platform, can't you see? :)

"The gimmick doesn't really justify the exceptionally poor robot shape."

Subjective. A robot can be anything.

" but from a standing start he rolls maybe 60cm/2 feet. A little more if you push him along as you do it, but this isn't enough to really be spectacular."

Subjective. For a kid sitting down on the floor, 2' is more than enough.

"The gimmick is dumbed right down for a young audience (we're talking 3 year olds), but I still don't see why such a poor gimmick was implemented when a better gimmick such as a pullback motor would have worked better, and given Ratchet a better robot mode."

Subjective. A 3 year old won't care about a superior robot mode.

"The gimmick just isn't that impressive - I can see kids becoming bored with it awfully quickly."

Subjective. My nephew loves them.

Subjective. For what they are, they're cool.

It's really one man's subjective opinion. I find the Cyber Slammers rather cute and fun myself. Others too, and others hate them.

you've completely misunderstood what he's said...

"Ratchet's shape is so far from a humanoid robot it's not funny."

Evidently he doesn't. Note that there's nothing wrong with injecting opinions into your reviews, but you need to ensure that your opinions are justified. He has explained every opinion that he has stated. It doesn't mean you have to agree with his opinion, but he has explained why he has that opinion. He has explained why he thinks this robot mode fails to achieve a substantial humanoid form. You may disagree, but that doesn't change his opinion and the fact that he has justified said opinion.

"The gimmick doesn't really justify the exceptionally poor robot shape."

Subjective. A robot can be anything.

Irrelevant. He had already previously qualified that he was talking about humanoid robots.

" but from a standing start he rolls maybe 60cm/2 feet. A little more if you push him along as you do it, but this isn't enough to really be spectacular."

A standing start is when a car starts moving from a stationary position. It is the opposite of a rolling start.

Umm... yeah, that's pretty much what he said. (o_O)

"The gimmick just isn't that impressive - I can see kids becoming bored with it awfully quickly."

Who is 2 1/2 and he already said that this line is "dumbed down for 3 year olds." What's your point??

"The robot mode looks awful, so it really needed the gimmick to work, which compounds the lame gimmick, really. "

Subjective. For what they are, they're cool.

It's really one man's subjective opinion. I find the Cyber Slammers rather cute and fun myself. Others too, and others hate them.

Being objective doesn't mean that you can't express an opinion. I think you're confusing that. But there is a difference between being subjective and objective in the presentation of facts and opinions.

This is beginning to veer right off this thread topic, so that's all I'm going to say about it. If you really want to continue talking about this issue, I suggest you start a new thread somewhere else - probably in the non-TF related section.

We now return you to the thread. :)

Do you go under another name on other boards? Your high level of annoyance is highly suspect to me. Like I said, go buy your own toys, do you own reviews, read them yourself and be happy at how spot-on your own opinion is compared to your own expectations. Gee.

He has explained every opinion that he has stated.

Not objectively.

Irrelevant. He had already previously qualified that he was talking about humanoid robots.

To his subjective standards, which I can't care less about.

A standing start is when a car starts moving from a stationary position. It is the opposite of a rolling start.

Err? That's not what he's complaining about, read better.

Umm... yeah, that's pretty much what he said. (o_O)

He's complaining about the target market not liking the gimmick, which is not true.

Anything else you need to know?

He's always like that. There is an "ignore" function.

i would of thought one name came to mind if it was a 2007 transformers toy that was disapointing

leader Megatron.

for the size and pricepoint i expected, some decent articulation, a complex transformation or a paint scheme relatively accurate to the movie.

This toy had none of these whilst Prime (One of the best last year) has.

Leader Megatron is one of the most detailed transformers ever. Every inch of that guy is filled with detail.

My biggest flop is deluxe Brawl. If ever an awesome bot got nutsacked, it was that guy. Oh how great he COULD have been...

i'd agree with Gasket there bout deluxe Brawl...man does he suck and so .....have yet to see the leader class version but the deluxe is big NO to me
