Biggest Transformers toy flop of 2007?

Recommended Posts

I gotta go with Deluxe Skorponok as the biggest let down of 2007. He looks great in scorpion mode but flipping out two wimpy "leg panels" and folding the head down is not a great transformation. The toy should have been designed either without the rotating claw gimmick or the bot mode like Goktimus Prime said. I was actually happer with Blackouts version over this piece of crap.

Damn, forgot all about Scorp... probably because I didn't buy that lump of plastic poo :bounce

Is there any reason you're being an a**hole? I never force my toys. If anything, I'm the one who scolds other people for not reading the instructions. More people have claimed to have problems than those who have not- just use the search function (since you've made such a fuss about it).

Dude, only the ones who messed up their Blackout posted about it. Do you seriously think all members of all major TF boards take the time to make a post for each toy that works perfectly? And what about the ones who never post? Nah.

Regardless (speaking as someone who had to take apart and fix his own Blackout) there's plenty of evidence that it's a surprisingly common QC issue, as far as Transformers go. You are kind of being a dick to Mr. D.N. Breastsenstein about it.

Is there a reason you're acting personally insulted?

My vote is for the original Movie Ratchet. Those colors, that simplistic transformation, that less than details alt mode. So much potential, wasted. Rescue Ratchet is better w/ better colors, but the other problems remain.

I also hated Jazz. Flat color, too stocky, looks nothing like the movie and terrible articulation and transformation. Overall, I would say he is the big loser of the year. I only bought him to complete the line.

I personally really like Blackout. In fact I bought another one today to replace the one I tried to "fix". His legs weren't going flush in alt mode and I tried, and failed, to fix them. The new one fits perfectly, and I discovered the landing gear behind his head. I can't believe I never noticed that before. I do wish Blackout were bigger and that the automorph were more intuitive, but overall, I like him.

Ratchet and Jazz though, not so good.

Hmm, I forgot about Scorponok too. But then, I never had high expectations for it in the first place and only bought it for the sake of having one of each character in the movie, so I don't really consider it a flop.

Blackout wasn't a flop to me either, despite that it could have been designed better (e.g. changing the backpack/rotor weapon to something that would make him more imposing). I haven't personally had an issue with the Automorph there. Regarding his size though - maybe an "ultra" price point could have helped that? The downfall though is that they wouldn't have really have been able to do anything for the Autobots with only 5 main characters in the movie.

I didn't think about that...I love Ratchet because I think he's "solid," but that's probably just my excuse to hide the fact that he is rather simple. I do like the voyager size, but there's probably more they could have done with it.

Movie Ratchet! A figure so ugly in color and design that I can't seem to buy it, even though he's the last of the Autobot movie cast I need...sigh.

Oh...and any Decepticon from the movie. Just garbage.

Ouch! You start soliciting opinions and things get ugly real quick around here real quick-like! ;)

Personally, there are lots of controversial figures I LIKED (Dropkick, Wreckage) and DIDN'T like (Ironhide, Starscream, and all of the Camera-head drones) but as for real flops? I honestly think only Deluxe Scorponok fits in that category. I mean, come on... he doesn't really even have a robot mode, it's just the "scorpion" mode standing on its hind legs. If it weren't for the fact that he's such an important aspect of the movie, I'd just as soon not given him a toy at all...especially not one that only half-assedly pretends to turn into a robot mode that was never actually even in the film. But then I guess he wouldn't be a "transformer."

I would have preferred it if they'd given us a "robot replicas" version instead of a deluxe, with extra levels of buglike articulation and a decent paint job, and nixed the cheap action gimmick and afterthought robot mode.

Not to mention he's wildly out of scale with every other figure in the line (though reasonably in-scale with GI Joe figures, hah.)

I feel sorry for every little kid who asked for a Transformer, dreaming of Prime and Bumblebee and ended up with Deluxe Scorponok. Poor kids.
