Loving Classics...

My only problem so far is that Megs had that orange nonsence on the tip of his cannon and his gun. His gun mode looks as toy-like as anything...I just don't see a reason for it. My two cubes.

I totally agree. Of course, the gun mode looks so toy-like and so brightly coloured because of their compliance with safety laws. But as I've also said before, seriously - if you can't do a proper gun Megatron (i.e.: realistic gun mode) then just don't do it at all. As Jazz always says, "Do it in style or don't bother doing it!"

That's why when Megatron was reissued by Takara, I immediately picked him up! (only cost me AU$40 too!) Later on when Hasbro began their reissues, there was discussion as to whether or not Hasbro could reissue Megatron, but it was generally agreed by most fans that it would be impossible since Hasbro would need to modify Megatron's alt mode (since it is a scale replica of a Walther P-38) and also place an orange tip on the barrel to comply with current laws - which would utterly ruin the Megatron reissue. I think it was shortly before or shortly after Takara did their second reissue of Megatron that Hasbro ruled out reissuing Megatron.

Anyway... I'm personally abstaining from nerf-gun Megatron. I'll wait for the tank Megatron that comes with the more G1-accurate Optimus Prime. :thumb

Goki, don't abstain. :thumb I got Classics megs recently and he is definately worth the $20 bucks. Once you have him in hand he is unmistakingly Megatron. I love him and ClassicsPrime and Bee and as I said in the "Hauls" thread, I haven't been able to put them down yet.

MY only complaint is that he has that orange nib. WHich made me wonder, does the Star Wars Blasters have those orange tips at all? I kept thinking that all the Starwars blasters I've seen were guns minus the tip. I kept thinking that the Blasters looked more realistic than Classics Megs sowhy should Megs have to suffer the wrath of the parents rights groups?

Any thoughts? and anyonw with Pictures of aStar Wars Blaster that they recently picked up?

Classic Megs is selling for AU$45 here... I dunno if he's worth that much. (-_-) I picked up the Deluxes for $25. Unforunately David Jones is quite expensive but atm they're the only place where I could find them. :( But even if they come out in other stores, I can't see them selling for much less than $40... maybe if there was a sale and he was sold for thirty-something bucks I might consider it. Hrmm.. I think I really need to see this toy IRL and have a bit of test-play... so I might wait until someone else I know gets him and lets me handle him a bit... but atm most folks I know are avoiding this toy like the plague.

And yes, the Star Wars blasters do have the orange tips. Here is an example.

sertile: awesome pic! :thumb - you should put that in the action pose thread. :D

This is what is missing from Classics:

1) more classic characters

2) me buying them all

oh and Wheelie

:eek GAH! That orange thing is sooo ugly! Still though, it's not on the scope. I need some black paint. And I'm sorry that they are so expensive there. Didn't realize that the exchange rate there was so drastic. Thats two dollars and fifty cents to the us dollar right? In any case I think that as soon as you get to play with him you may be hooked.

BTW: Death to Wheelie!! no...scratch that. I hope that they make a Wheelie that's so cool and extravigant...Hasbro hires the most top notch designers to create him and that he becomes the stuff of Fanboy's dreams, so I can strap him to a rocket and make his demise that much more delicious. Damn you Wheelie!

US$1 buys AU$1.32 so US$20 = AU$26.44. But the problem isn't just currency exchange, it's also the cost of importing. I could buy the toys from the US directly, but then I'd have to pay for shipping and it'd work out to be about the same. I've done it for the occasional Transformer that hasn't been released here. But I don't feel that personally importing nerf-gun Megatron is worth the while.

They do have orange tips, but they're otherwise black. However, the barrel lights up red when you shoot it.

Also, there's more to this issue than just "what the gun looks like". Megatron isn't just some random role-play toy like Megatron's energon sword or something. He's also the leader of the bad guys. As such... well it would sure suck if HE got held up in production and wasn't able to be released on time. My understanding is that Hasbro didn't try for realism because they didn't even want to go there and risk any kind of delay in the first place. The impression I get is that the gun laws are pretty straightforward ("orange tip on barrel") but there's the threat of potential litigation if a toy looks too "real" to someone. They own the Nerf gun patents so they probably figured "why not". The Nerf guns are known quantities in the toy gun market; I'm guessing that Hasbro thought it'd be a safe bet to model Megs after one of them, since they're already out there with no problems.

Time machine mode, go!

yeah more like a flight mode for the car.

Anyhoe, if there is a gimic I think it is in the way (at least for the auto bots) that there can be someform of an attack mode in car form. Rodimus is great in this form (bare in mind, rotate the wings, it looks better). Primes weapons look like they can be deployed in some way in alt mode. and now we just figured out bumble bees.

But at any rate, it seems that this time the decepticons got the short end of the stick in coolness factor.

Autobots in this line have better detail, better features and well just look 10 times better. I just got Rodimus and man I love this toy. Because the quality in this figure is so bitchen compared to the astro train I bought the other day, astrotrain is going back and I'm exchanging him for Bumble bee.

I think in this line I'm only gonna collect autobouts, no cons.

It will be a cool display and a little easier on the wallet.

this works out perfect, I'll have only 2 more figs to get, prime and bumble bee. then in the next wave it is Mirage jetfire and grimlock.

wow that's it, only six figures.

And I know cosmos is coming out so that would hopfully mean another deluxe (oh that would be cliff jumper Bumble repaint) and then another voyager????

Recently got Classics Prime; pretty much the only nitpick I have against it is the lack of a faction symbol (especially when in bot mode, it just irks me a bit). Other than that, the only problem so far with the classics line is that there's not enough of classic characters yet. :yay

Gimmics ARE great. Just not on an entire line.

That's what made Vector Prime so special. He was the only one of the GF/Cyb line that had a Minicon partner for a while(heck, it even matched it's partner more than most of the Armada minicons... look at A Red alert). And even the Giant Planet guys made it cool. It was like a little faction like Targetmasters or Dinobots, except with Minicons and the giant thing going on.

If the classics line brought back the idea of mini-factions like that, it'd be perfect.

Is that RM Optimus Prime in the Prime vs Megs 2 Pack? I can't tell from the pic.
