Loving Classics...

If the new cartoon were based on Classics, then what would Hasbro sell as their main toy line?

Ummm... more Classics - along with the ones we've already got in new boxes? :tflaugh

Silly boy. This cartoon isn't going to start airing until fall 2007 (at the earliest). That's almost a year from now. That would take the Classics way past the typical 18-month cycle for a main line.

RUBBER TIRES! that's what it's missing.

:pfx :pfx :pfx

If they were able to do it with RID then Hasbro should have been able to at least do the same with Classics.

As long as Optimus Prime dies in this line, I'm happy.

BLASPHEME!! :eek

I guess I'll be going to hell after saying this, then:

OPTIMUS PRIME SUCKS!!!

There. I just made fun of your god and made baby Jeebus cry.

:rofl :rofl :rofl Save me Jeebus!!

Sertiously though I really hope that they don't do the Optimus dying thing. Would cheepen the series IMO.

Man, I thought I was going to pass this line by. But this past saturday, I picked up a Bumblebee. I wanted to display him next to my Alts and 20th Prime. Glad I did. He is completely worth it. If Hasbro just did this line continuously, and released all manner of characters from G1, I think they'd have a successful long run for us older collectors.

well first off, where is everybody getting these! damn there is nothing in my neck of the woods, norwalk, downey, long beach, lakewood at targets and walmarts.

where are the hotspots in southern ca? cos everyone else has cybertron and lots of it.

So whats' missing from the line for me? Where I get one or two!

FRYS FRYS FRYS!

Damnit! They still haven't hit So Florida yet. We're still getting all the markdowns. I think we'll get them after the UK gets 'em.

Transformers Classics: Generation 2

GO DAY GLO PRIME GO

My only problem with classics OP is the nasty forearm kibble. other than that (and a few slaoppy paint apps) I loves him.

I want to see more triple-changers.

and maybe some target masters with triple changing minicons.

and Powerglide. he's my favorite minibot.

MHO, Landmine is a lame mould with serious forearm kibble in bot mode.

And Astrotrain doesn't? ;p

Anyway, the point is that I don't think that either Classics or Cybertron is inherently better than the other... you have all these people going, "zOMG! Classics is the best line of TFs ever r0X0Rz'd!!11!11!`1!" when fundamentally speaking, I don't see how they're inherently superior to any other relatively recent TF line - e.g.: Cybertron/GF, Alternators/BT(BTA, KISS), MP etc.

As Hunter pointed out, a lot of the appeal in this line seems to be coming from G1 nostalgia.

This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but I think that it is obscuring a lot of people's judgement when reviewing these toys - particularly in comparison with other TF lines. I just feel that raising the Classics on this ivory pedestal and declaring them to be superior to other current lines is just gross over-exaggeration.

Yes okay, you have new versions of classic G1 characters from the 80s. FTW and all that... and hey, these toys are just as neat as most Cybertron figures. Backslash-forwardslash-backslash-forwardslash-zero-zero-seven!!one!oneone!!

But when you measure Classics up against say Cybertron and compare their inherent qualities as toys without the bias of G1-nostalgia, I don't think that Classics really isn't as super-fantastic as what everyone is making them out to be.

Yes, they're really good... but they're not that good.

I haven't seen this much fan-fappage since late 2003 with BT-01 Smokescreen. d:

Dont forget the other aspect of these figures that people seem to love:

NO GIMMICKS!!

Again I think that this is a sign of the age level of the people buying the figures.

Would a 7 year old prefer a toy with a springloaded head or not? I dont know.

There is nothing inherently wrong with any of the Gimmicks from the A/E/C lines. However when the Gimmick mechanism interferes with other attributes of the figure, then perhaps it does more harm than good.

But again we go back to - would the 7yo value those same attributes as the 30 y.o collector.

So again, age and nostalgia, indirectly affect that judgement as well.
