Okay, I cheated a bit... that was one of the Akom-animated episodes from season 2; they colored Starscream's nosecone in those ones.

gotta love the continuity inconsistencies in the G1 toon. :)

Mind you, there was some visual inconsistencies in the comics too - usually between different artists. For instance, ever noticed how Pretender Starscream would be missing a large chunk of one side of his head whenever he was drawn by José Delbo?! Or for some reason which continues to elude me, Nel Yomtov loved to colour Soundwave PURPLE - hence he was almost always purple in the US comics (whereas he was more toy-accurately blue in the UK comics).

...and despite all the toon-likeness obsessed FIRRIBers, we don't have comic-likeness mongers crying for SIPSIMALCOOSOHH (Soundwave is Purple, Starscream Is Missing A Large Chunk Off One Side Of His Head)!! e-Hobby sure missed out on doing a "G1-accurate" purple Soundwave!! :P :P

But surely you must know that anything in the cartoon is inherently superior to anything else ever and completely invalidates any discrepancies between show and toy or comic.

:agree

I was too broke and could hardly read when the comic was popular. *think I was 5 when it came out*

I cant tell you anything about the Comic. Maybe this is true for alot of folks and that's why there are no SIPSIMALCOOSOHH debates?

*Knows of your sarcasm*

*Was adding my own issues to the discussion as far as the Comic was concerned*

*Prefers Toy/toon/Reality accuracy like Dreamwave Comics and MP/BT/Classics figs

Look at Fatimus Prime for example, they had to make his normal mold so out of proportion so that he'd look right combined in Power Ranger mode...Energon Bots for the most part don't thrill me since they had to have the linking feature which limited the designs a bit.

At least the Energon Decepticons were halfway decent cause with Energon, there were two gimmicks (what the figure had depended on the faction (Autobots:Powerlinking::Decepticons:Hyper Power), So the Decepticons gimmicks really didn't hinder the figures that much. I mean, they could have executed some of the molds a little better *cough*Scorponok*cough*.

As for a gimmick for Classics, I think I've figured it out:

G1 Redux. That's the gimmick.

Potentially, every line has had a gimmick, and sub-lines have had a gimmick.

G1: Powermasters/Targetmaster/Headmasters all came with little characters that could become a(n) engine/weapon/head.

BW/BM: Can't think of one unless the gimmick of having beasts for alt mode instead of vehicles and other inanimate objects counts

RiD: Most of the figures had great posability (though it's not really a gimmick, I know there are some people who consider it one)

Armada: Mini-Cons unlocked features

Energon: Again, depending on the faction, there were two gimmicks (Powerlinking and Hyper Power)

Cybertron: Cyber Keys

Alts: Realistic alternate modes with great quality to the figures

The only thing missing from Classics are more Classics. Bring on Jazz, Ironhide, and the rest of the MTMTE cast.
