Loving Classics...

Recommended Posts

I picked up all of wave one in the Transformers Classics line the other day.

I've had some time to mess around with them, and I am having a great time. I love bringing the original G1 stories to life in a new way!

The figures all pay areally great homage to the characters they represent.

- Optimus Prime's purebread truck goodness, and awesome red and blue color scheme.

- Megatron's transformation into a giant cannon of doom...er...handheld weapon, and scope/fusion cannon.

- Astrotrain's Triple changing action and large rifle.

- Rodimus' vehicle mode, and huge spoiler, and the little buzzsaw

- Starscream's jetmode, and huge null rays...

- and lastly, Bumblebee's tiny and yellow, and really close to a bug. Love the headsculpt too. The Waverider is a nifty gimmick too...

Gimmicks...and thats the purposeof this thread.

Many people aren't going to like me saying this...but I feel empty without the figures having some type of extra gimmick.

I know, I know, many say that the transformation is the gimmick, but we just came from lines with minicon ports, force chips, and accompanying weapons, and cyberplanet keys...and each allowed the character to perform some extra trick on top of the transformation...

I realize that Astrotrain is a triplechanger. Thats awesome, and I can accept that. Bumblebee's wave rider/jetpack...cool! But man I would kill for something for Prime...a trailer at least...or even extra parts for Megs.

I guess what I am saying is that I miss gimmicks...but I'm glad to see that some of the Classics figures are more than just hyper-poseable.

And just to let everyone know, I grew up with G1, love and respect G1, and also love Armada, Energon, and Cybertron. (So I'm not trying to make anyone mad...)

I just want to know if anyone who has purchased Classics...feels something is missing. I guess it is just a filler line...

I'm the opposite, actually. I'm glad there ARE no gimmicks.

And Bumblebee's waverider is no more a 'gimmick' than Armorhide's tow arm becoming his gun, IMHO. :D

Personally I was tired of the minicons, superlinking, force chip lines. THough Cybertron managed to make mostly great figures despite the gimmicks, the previous two lines had many figure who suffered jsut so they could have the gimmicks. When a figure looses out jsut so he can have some stupid extra gimmick it annoys me.

Look at Fatimus Prime for example, they had to make his normal mold so out of proportion so that he'd look right combined in Power Ranger mode. Most of the armada molds loose something to have a minicon power added, and the Energon Bots for the most part don't thrill me since they had to have the linking feature which limited the designs a bit.

So I love Classics, less of those stupid gimmicks and jsut well designed molds.

There have been enough gimmicks. I have been turned away from some Energon toy because of those lousy, transparent Energon weapons. I was an Alternators only collector, but I might have bought one or two Energon toys if it weren't for those clear weapons.

RUBBER TIRES! that's what it's missing.

I agree with the ones who said the recent gimmicks hurt the toys. A Hot Shot would've been so much better if he'd had arm articulation instead of a goofy cannon. And electronics hurt just about every toy they're in (like E. Shockblast). RiD Prime is the only one I can think of who incorporated his electronics in a good way.

IMO, I believe that it is a good thing that there are no gimicks in this line. personally I believe that the Energon line's combining gimick limited the protential for the Autobot figures, I'm not sure which one, perhaps Rodimus I think.

If one thing that's missing at this point, it's the lack of awesome combiner(s) or some sort. The last great combiner, imo, was Railracer (a.k.a. RSX) in RID (a.k.a. Car Robot). The Energon combiners were good, but not great.

A new Menasor would be nice (No, not the Cybertron non-combining one), since it's a line base on vechiles (I think), or Denfensor. Both haven't been recently revive in combiner form yet. (Ok, you can say Alternators, but they can't combine~ ;P )

I especially hate electronics, voice boxes...basically anything in my toys that need batteries.

They require too much space in the toy and are usually really annoying.

The only thing i think the line is missing is the rest of the Season ONE bots.

Bring em ON kids!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Also i think that the new Devestator is missing two limbs.
