Just for fun, ask the guy from tfw2005 that developped his own Hearts of Steel Optimus Prime how much money he had to invest from his own pocket to make it reality. Or Anemis how much money he spent developping his own MP Magnus trailer, his MP Megatron, etc. Or the guy who produced the transforming MP Arcee.

This is true... good point.

As far as I have read (there is a post somewhere on this forum) Hasbro is only worried about people who try to pose their product, bash...as the REAL THING. Many people repaint exclusives or creating packaging that looks as if the product is official. These guys DO NOT use the "Transformers" logos or name sakes in anyway; hence they can sell this product as a home made object.

You can also consider this ART, or at least it is "Kitsch", and you could get around legal matters in that aspect as well.

Are we talking materials or time? I'd guess the 'investment' is fairly small for materials...

I do believe that Autobot symbol is not an original design.

But yes, they're not trying to pass them off as Hasbro originals, thus are not counterfeits as Hot Rod claimed.

did no one read the actual definition of knock off? I thought it was pretty self explanatory.

The one you posted? That directly went against your claims? Yes, yes I did.

Hey, who's that character in your avatar? Some character perhaps devised by a philantropical company that lives on love and would happily design and pay for figures you can later make money from becaue they love you?

As loving and caring as the WalMarts they distribute them through.

If the people who do all of the artwork and character creation decided to leave Hasbro and start their own company with their own TV shows and their own line of toys and cartoons called Shape-Shifting Robot Dudes or better yet... TransFormies and both the quality of their TV shows and toy line far exceeded the quality of the what is more often than not crap produced by Hasbro... at the same price as Hasbro's toys... eventually putting Hasbro out of the shape-shifting robot business forever... would they still suck?

Transformers is just a brand name... that Hasbro has been successful in milking for almost 25 years. Kudos to them. And I hope someday they will reward the fandom community for their endless devotion to buying what amounts to crap by producing something that matches the quality of these "knockoffs"... but I won't hold my breath.

I will give them credit for having improved the quality of their toys over the years... but if you don't see the awesomeness of this Powerglide "knockoff model" you're probably blind.

Do the kitbashers/scratch builders get Blot on like this? Based on what's been said in here I would expect some people to troll the custom forums making sure to point out the patent infringement. I'm sure none of them have ever sold one of their custom pieces though... that would mean that this entire site would be liable as well.

I'd be interested to know why everyone keeps calling this model/toy "Powerglide" since that's the name of a Transformers character that is owned by Hasbro, who happens to look remarkably similar to this thing. Is there no copyright infringement happening here? Is this just some random toy robot kit?

So transformers is only the toy line for you? F' the characters, cartoons, history, bios etc? I can see why this fake transformer does not bother you.

For the same reason we refer to you as Lord Madhammer even though you're the lord of nothing and that it is not your actual name. It's just easier and quicker.

A counterfeit is an imitation that is made usually with the intent to deceptively represent its content or origins. The word counterfeit most frequently describes forged currency or documents, but can also describe clothing, software, pharmaceuticals, watches, or more recently, cars and motorcycles, especially when this results in patent infringement or trademark infringement.

Yes, the last five words apply... but the what about the rest? You can't simply ignore part of a definition because it doesn't fit your argument. Also, wikipedia.

Dictionary.com:

"Counterfeit- an imitation intended to be passed off fraudulently or deceptively as genuine; forgery."

These are not passed off as the genuine thing. People know they're buying custom work, if they thought they were buying originals they (in an ironic twist) wouldn't pay nearly as much.

NO, but they are counterfeiting a product name. Ask TT/Has how much money it cost to put the Dodge name on a BT/Alt figure. It was a lot more than free.
