Why G1 was So Great

Recommended Posts

In one of it's most illogical moments, G1 had an episode where the Autobots got from the Pacific northwest to central Africa in less than an hour.  This is still not as stupid as any episode of Armada.

I think it's hilarious that G1 totally insults every bit of human logic that exists, but you think it's amazing..just show's how un intelligent and easily impressed you are, and that goes for all of you in this post who are trying to oppose me. Give it a rest guys, the moment you step up to me, you lose before you can even try to make a point.

Easily impressed? Even after I have said that G1 can be stupid, you think that I'm easily impressed? You shouldn't say that, since you are enamored by the CGI of Energon.

:tflaugh :tflaugh :tflaugh That's funny. Remeber when they were on surf boards? Prime: "Autobots, maintain speed and sail on!" :tflaugh

Yes, and then there was the episode with your avatar, Kremzeek!. Sure it was a little goofy, but it was still good.

There are a lot of shows that I used to watch as a kid and that I find kind of silly. For instance, there is The A-Team and Knight Rider. I hardly watch reruns of them and I am not rushing to get the DVD sets. Same with G.I. Joe, not that Rhino's price point doesn't put me off as well, but I just don't like that show as much as I used to. :tfgrin

Eh... im going to have to agree with Bodycount... you guys complain about how childish and stupid armada is, and yet your talking about Autobots on surf boards right.... Dont get me wrong I love G1 but its not all that great... and the whole thing about getting energon and taking it back to Unicron thats called plot dude. G1 really didnt have any of that at all it was mostly just "Megatrons Evil Plan for the day" which never had anythign to do with the previous episodes. Most characters remained the same bland personality through the entire show and never developed. Hell even G1 prime the main character remained the same the whole show, it would have been nice to atleast have some character development, or atleast the main character. I just recently bought the first Season for g1 and was utterly disapointed, I remember it being great but its not. Its great in a childs prespective but not mine, I still love it but I give it a thumbs down if I where to rate it compared to what we have now.

Just my 2 cents of bleh

I'm not saying that G1 wasn't stupid, but it just has some sort of quality to it that the new cartoons seem to lack, that's all. The whole reason why Beast Wars is admired so, is beause it gives us a glimpse of what G1 might have been had it been done with the seriousness of that series. Anyone who likes G1 will admit that it was goofy many times, but Armada is the worst. At least Energon is trying to be better than Armada.

G1 is not why Beast wars was great at all, Beast wars was great because of its awsome story and great character development that was actually there. Im sorry dude but you cant compare G1 to Beast wars, and Armada was not the worste. The only show that G1 even comes close to being superior too is RID and thats story wise. Rid had the best animation and designs in my opinion. Oh and Energon isnt trying to be better than armada it is better than armada :P

I guess you must have dyslexia or something.

I said that we like Beast Wars because it is what G1 could have been if it were done the same way. We like it because it has that connection to G1 and think, "if only . . .".

Here's how TF cartoons rank (in terms of quality and overall, indescribable feel):

1. Beast Wars

2. G1

3. BM (I don't like, but it was well made.)

4. RID

5. Energon

6. Armada.

This post has turned into a flame fest almost from the begining but i've tried to stay out of it and i still plan to, but mike makes a good point about how as silly as alot of the G1 episodes were, suprinsingly they're still watchable and it doesn't really have anything to do with nostalgia or any stupid crap like that, its just good wholesome fun. Some episodes yes are unwatchable, like that episode where the decepticons take out prime and make his body into an alligator and his gun arm into a remote firing cannon or some stupid crap like that, but for the most part the majority of episodes had a point and even though they could be very illogical at times you waded it through just to see the outcome. You cannot honestly do that with certain shows we grew up on like for example A-team and knight rider like mike points out. As a kid i loved those shows, but after seeing reruns of them within the last few years i can't stand em! They're so far-fetched and beyond all reason at times that i can only imagine what their target audience was when they were on in prime time (5 to 12 year olds, like we used to be probably). But for whats it worth i cant say that about G1, at least IMO its a good enough cartoon that has stood the test of time to the point that i can honestly say that i still think its a damn good show. Nuff said, this is a post about what made G1 good, (not what made it better than other tf series, or why other tf series are better than it), and it should have stayed that way.

G1 was the first, and everything since will be compared to it. Since it is the definitive version of Transformers, it's safe to say it's "the best", overall. The show was good, the movie was excellent, and most of the toys were too. Sure, they had some bad ones, but they had some great ones, too. Think of the play value you had with Megatron as a kid? Soundwave still looks great, as do many others. They were very well engineered for the time, and they still look cool on my shelf. As for play value for children, well, I don't think that's something that should really be considered in this forum, should it? I mean, this isn't Consumer Reports - it's about collecting toys, not playing with them. Who cares what a five-year-old thinks?

Beast Wars was in the same continuity as G1, right? Does it even count, then?

Armada/Energon... Toys are alright, but the show is unwatchable.

Alternators - definitely the best toys so far, but it doesn't have any real storyline, so you can't really judge it the same way. It sounds like this might fit into G1 continuity as well - time will tell.

Eh, sounds like I'm contradicting myself a bit, now that I look at it. Oh well - hopefully it adds to the conversation at least.

Somewhere along the lines, you seem to assume that Generation One WASN'T that plotline...but every single stinking episode up until the movie revolved around Energon theft..and even some season 3 stuff did.

I know that G1 was focused on Energon too but there was some variety with those episodes over the Energon ones. Energon is the same every episode. Steal Energon give to unicron, thats it. This show is just about reviving Unicron.

I liked watching G1 more because Megatron wasn't in complete controll. In energon Megatron has super powers and controlls everyone. But in G1 Starscream always tried to take over. Also people say that the toys didn't resemble the show, big deal watch alot of cartoons from then. Most of the toys don't look like the show, and ever Beast Wars and Beast Machines were different than the toys.

I just don't think Energon is entertaining, it gets boring after a while. I mean the autobots know where Megatron so why don't they just attack him. Now I said it before but I think the show would have been alittle better if they hadn't killed of all the minicons.

You seem to be missing the point of this tangent arguement. I believe it started with the comparison of quality in the shows.

Energon simply because of the evolution of animation and art in general is superior to G1's show. I dont feel the writting of show can be compared because one is a dub of a japanese show and the other was written for the American market to begin with.

Now, Superlink always has me wanting more while I fallasleep trying to watch anything G1 and excuse me but I believe most of the beginning of G1 was Deceps and Bots trying to collect of energon to return to Cybertron. So how is stealing oil for an oil rig and turning it into a cube and storing it every damn episode more exciting than having animalcons eating raw energon, turning it into a usable "star" for the bots to use in battle and what ever is left is taken to feed the ultimate transformer of all time?

Yep, Nostalgia is definitely clouding everyones rational judgement here.

And for the last time, fo the damn record, The reason Energon is full of G1esque designs is because that is whats being demanded by the majority of us. Sheesh, we ask for something and they give to us then you criticize them for doing what we asked in the first place. Ingrates, but thats what a "fanboy" is defined by I suppose so its only in its nature to be that way.
