I think the cartoon was better for the simple fact that when they transformed, they didn't have that generic pose transform crap that's in the Energon cartoon. That is so cheap! I mean c'mon.

nope, they just morphed not to mention they were really poorly drawn. Give me a break people. It doesnt get better than 3D animation with a toon shader. I could careless what they turn into, show is written way better than G1, it doesnt have crape animation and everyone looks like their toys and the characters dont flash rainbow colors on the fly. The trasnformation sequences in RID and Energon are amazingly well done, deal with it....its better than G1. Hell scoobydoo is better than G1 and anyone that cant see that needs to buy, borrow or rent the G1 DVDs and have their memory brought to speed.\

 

 

Trust me, reallity hits when you watchem again. I remembered them all detailed and the storys complex then I watched as an adult and realized that even pokemon is a higher quality show than G1. Sad but true. Children have an incredible imagination.

You can post a thousand topics like this, and then a thousand more, and G1 still won't measure up to today's standards. Everything that Superlink/Energon is, G1 will never be, or never reach. It will always be a dorkfest for crybaby fanboys to sit around and whine about because it's gone.  ENERGON is good because of character development, a deep and ongoing plot, great drama, light comedy, and pretty awesome character designs. G1 had none of this. G1's robots looked like stacked up boxes, and they never really resembled the toy in the show. Their plots were forgotten about from one episode to another, and the characters never developed. They just sat there as they were, and what Starscream was doing in his first appearance was exactly what he was doing in his last: Plotting against a greater power. You wanna say "But thats Starscream's character!"..but that's a poor excuse. That isn't his character, it's his quirk. He isn't a good character, he's a poorly developed character. Learn the difference.  Nostalgia is not a factor and does not increase the value of a product. Anyone who clings to nostalgia is just being blind and foolish, no matter what subject it relates to. I don't care if its your lifestyle, past events, or even Transformers. That's a pathetic way to judge the value of something in your life: By what it means to you now that it's already gone.

:pfx Less harshy than you put it, but I agree. G1's had its time, next series should go for some more orginal designs/concepts rather than rehashing (not to say I don't like homages, but I also would rather see orginal characters like Landmine, TW, etc than something I've seen before)

 

Bodycount you never cease to amaze me. Your comments about G1 and its fans are as mindless as you are. Your precious Energon cartoon series is a laugher in the truest sence of the word. The only thing Energon has going for it are the toys and the comic series and thats about it. Compare Energon Prime to MP Prime. Thats like comparing ice cream to horse manure Energon Prime dont even come close. So before you start slamming G1 and those that love the toys and charachters think before you open your trap because frankly some people on this board are getting tired of your ranting and constant negative posts. Remeber this as well Bodycount it was G1 that started this whole thing we call TF, or have you forgotton that?

 

Two things:

 

1. Comparing E Prime to MP Prime is unfair as MP Prime is the 20th Anniversary figure for the entire TF brand, not just G1. But you are correct, E Prime does look like crap compared to MP/20th :)

 

However compare G1 Prime to E Prime and G1 does pale in comparision some.

 

2. He's entitled to his opinion here, but you don't have to agree with it. He's allowed to express himself just like everyone else here :thumb

I don't go back to T1 goodness until I head back to college for a month so I've been stuck with 56K :( Not that even having T1 mattered much as I couldn't find a good site with SL subs but seeing no animation flubs on the raw versions was nice....

Also, the lines today have way too many repaints. Think of how many new molds there were in G1

Uhm ok, the seekers were all repaints of the same figure except for a few parts. And lets not forget G2 which was a whole line of repaints 3 for each mold I think.

 

Everybody blows this repaint bullcrap way out of proportion.

 

Now the reason G1 might have appeared to have so many molds was because it was a toy line in the works since 79 or so. Dont think for a minute that Hasbro cranked out those molds in a years time all for the show. They even licensed molds from other toy lines in Japan to extend their grip on the transforming robot market here in the states with out having to develop anything in house like Shockwave and OmegaSupreme. What archer and Hastak do now a days blows anything they did back then out of the water in terms of the time they take to concept their designs to the final production stage.

 

Nostalgia is clouding too much of the reasoning sections of your minds.

 

 

G1 was God back in the day, its still ok now(Binaltechs have really stolen G1's magic) but Car Robots and Superlink are indeed the best main toylines to come out of HasTak ever in regards to ingenuity, style variation and playability and overall character designs. They only have 1 year to make it all and they go and license other molds from other toylines to extend the line.

EDIT: I have stated my opinions enough on that. I know people are sick of it.

Another thing I noticed was that they aren't doing anything new with they toys. Everything that they arre doing now was already done in G1. The one thing that I thought they should of continued was the Minicons. It was a good Idea but instead of continueing it they make energon and killoff ALL of the mincons except for perceptor and The energon saber. Which was the stupidest move they could ever do. But no matter what anyone says G1 will never be surpased

Well the reason Hastak has been making G1 remakes or "homages" is because thats the feed back they get from us. Archer already explained this to us.

 

You seriously need to get the DVD collection of G1 and try and sit through atleast 10 episodes of G1. I know I couldnt, nothing really made sense, the art was terrible and it was chucked full of coloring, layer arangment and vocal errors.

If nostalgia wasn't a factor no one would buy reissues and I'd be able to get a complete set of G1 MISB for close to nothing, but I can't.

 

Memories (maybe nostalgia isn't the best way to describe it) is what gives value to anything. If you didn't care about it there's no point in getting it.

well noone is buying the reissues since they are clogging every ToysRus shelf in the TF section......so maybe nostalgia isnt at the root of all this tf business. Maybe its the kickass new designs? :tfevil

Whatever dude, I have watched G1 again. They don't say "Optimus Prime Transform." That is terrible. It is my only real gripe about the new cartoon. That generic pose/transform thing sucks major ass. You can't sit here and tell me that is an improvement. They use the same Transform scene with the Autobots, it starts with them talking about themselves in third person like they have Downe Syndrome or something, then they go up, way up in the air with a blurred background, then they transform, then they pose, then they end up on the ground like they never went up in the air and stuff. WTF? The Decepticons don't do that (usually). They just transform. Why the hell do you have to alert the world, just transform.

 

Pokemon higher quality? :roll Right.

The blurred background and yelling in the 3rd is a characteristic of shows done in japan, remember this isnt just our show, it airs in japan too. Thats the way they do things, and its also part of "anime" which is the "hip" thing to be watching in the child-teen bracket.........dont forget your watching a show designed for children.

 

Im sure the G1 animators would have dreaded having to do a close up detailed transformation of Optimus Prime. They would have to get the model sheet and color palette right all at the same time....

 

And yes, Pokemon is of higher quality animation than the 1985 Transformers the tv series is. Pikachus model never changes or flashes funky colors(by accident) and there arent any sorting issues either during a show.

Yes, I agree. With all of Energons CGI, it only shows how low in quality and how little time is spent on the show. The G1 cartoon transformations are a sign of the work and care that was put into the show. :thumb
