Why G1 was So Great

Recommended Posts

Personally, I just don't like the universe Armada/Energon exists in. If it fit in with the characters from G1, sure, but... The toys seem okay, I just don't like the way they're retelling the storyline. I think that's what it all boils down to for a lot of people.

Remember folks, just because you are a TransFan, it doesn't mean that you have to like everything they throw at you. As far as I'm concerned, RID, Armada and Energon are for the kids. If they like them, fine, but I don't care about them.

Some day you guys will realize i'm just fighting for the right for ALL Transformers series to have a right to exist, in the first place....=P

There are some great poeple on this forum, but they're all hindered by these "Geewun rulz!" guys...its getting to where we can't even discuss what we like without one of them popping up and slamming us for liking the new stuff....I realize I don't hate G1, I just won't put up with their purist followers.

As opposed to everybody having to put up with your anti-G1-fan hatred?

Get over it. You must realize by now that you aren't going to change anybody's mind by arguing over the net. At least, I think you're bright enough to figure that out ...

Listen carefully, all of you. Just because somebody on the internet doesn't like something doesn't mean you can't like it. And it works the same in reverse. If you don't like something, don't expect everyone to have the same opinion.

And you know what? That nostalgia argument really doesn't work. Ever think that maybe people prefer the older TF's for reasons other than because that's what they grew up with? Didn't think so.

And now back to our regularly scheduled G1-fan bashing ...

Wildling pretty much sums it up :thumb

If you dont like G1 or dont have a valid reason as to what made it good, you shouldnt really be posting in this thread.

Ok,I've read everything that everyone had to say,and you all had excellent points including Bodycount.I know me and BC had an argument similar to this a couple weeks back, which I was out of line for flaming on him like that. But I am a G1 purists, and I am well award of the other continuties of TF.BW being the next best thing after G1.

But the other toylines, like RID/Car Robots,Armada, and Energon all have interesting aspects themselves. But G1 had a major influnce on RID/Car Robots they had the Combaticons and Scourge(Prime repaint).

I say,we end this arguing right now.We all need to accept that everyone of the TFans loves a different toyline.I love G1,but most of my collection is BW,RID,Armada, and Energon. All of my G1 bots are long gone cause of moving too much.

I have no problem with Bodycount, neither should any other G1 purist.Just let all of this senseless arguing stop.

By the way BC that avatar is off the chains...

here is a good questions and you seem pretty knowledgable about TF stuff as an artist and a fan...

(directs to the entire TFans family)

do we have any kind of idea what kinds of sales tf's have generated over the years? I would be interested, cause its obviously wouldnt matter how good the toys are are, or the cartoon, or the comics if the sales have been flat.

*spins on heels*

these are good times, even though energon and altsmokescreen is warming the shelves. HASTAK continues to be profitable enuff to make new tf lines. collect want you want family, cause I have to be honest, unless it is pink (no offence to arcee) If it is TRANSFORMERS, I will consider buying it. I even love those GO-Bots, I buy them for Bailey (2yrold Daugther) and we have a ton of fun

TF 4ever... 20 years and running.

smithsquared,I agree whole heartedly.

What is so great about the energon show. Its basically the same thing every episode. The Decepticons attack steal some energon then leave.

At least the G1 show had some variation. Now granted the shows were alittle strange but it was for kids and it was about 20 years ago. And I would prefer to watch it over Energon. After you watch a few episodes of energon you just get bored of it. All its about is stealing energon to bring back Unicron.

I think it is fun to watch the G1 show to see all the original characters, but My favorite show, hands down, is beast wars. And of course Family Guy

Yeah, nad having Megatron run around Earth in every episode with a new plan to destroy the Autobots that requires them to get Energon to fulfill it. Yeah, that's REALLY different.

I agree, G1 did have episodes where the Energon thing wasn't done, and that was good. Energon, well why call a show Energon and not use it? Granted it would rock if htey did some different things, but oh well.

And G1 was a line of repaints until the Movie came. (Never thought I'd say this myself, but it's true, the beginning of G1 was a complete repaint party with molds from many companies used in it, yeah, very original indeed.)

Yes, but G1's repaints were all made into different characters with different personalities, and even though they were repaints, they LOOKED different in their creativeness in the repainting. RID, Armada, and Energon, although many of the molds are quite excellent, when repainted aren't different figures at all, just "powered-up" versions of the originals. It's tiring to see the same character repainted over and over again, it's monotonous. Granted, we're getting repaints as different characters in Universe, such as the Hot Shot to Smokescreen repaint. It looks good and it makes sense, but it's taking a previous mold into a new line, different storyline. I mean, when you look at G1, you see Smokescreen, Prowl, and Blue/Silverstreak. They're the same basic toy, but most people don't see them as that, they see them as seperate individual characters/toys. Same with the seekers, God forbid thou who confuses Dirge with Skywarp. But look at Armada, Hot Shot became... Hot Shot with new colors. They almost split multiple characters out of a mold with Starscream, but they kept him the same character in the show instead of different characters sharing the similar form. And even though the figure is called Thundercracker, everyone sees him instead as powered-up Starscream. Now, look at AT/BT. Smokescreen and Silverstreak still share the same basic mold with minor retooling, same as before. Do most people see them as the same toy, or as two seperate toys because of their established personalites as different individuals? It's one of the things that made G1 great, is even though many figures were repaints/retools of each other (and from previous lines), they are viewed as their own individual selves with their own personalities. They are who they are. I'm almost certain if HasTak decided to market their new lines repaints as seperate characters and introduce them along side the existing characters in the series, the outcry of "Not another repaint" would quiet down quite a bit. I know myself I'd feel better buying another version of the same toy if the character is different from the version I already have.
