about the upcoming movie that is.

now as a spiderman fan, there were some things that i had to let go of when the movie came out. like him having...gobbys power ranger suit

:tfhuh

What's Power Rangers suit. His suit was exactly like it is in the comics. Blue and red with a stylized web and spider symbols. It's just a little more detailed is all. Although the organic web-shooters I can do without but don't mind it too much.

I know it's not on topic but it just struck me as kind of obscure since I myself am a fan of Spidey and for one am absolutely enthralled with the movies (especially Spidey 2 for reasons that are related for story-telling purposes).

But as for the movie, I'm liking what I'm seeing so far, and the stuff we've seen as early versions of the characters are NOT final so I know they're still being modified for the final touch (or at least some of them are, like Megs). I'm holding judgement until I see the actual movie on opening night (yes, I'm going to be one of the people who's going to the theater at midnight for the first showing of the film. I will frame my ticket :tflaugh ) But I'm having high hopes and it looks very promising.

gobbys power ranger suit

not spiderman silly.

The main thing I didn't like about the Spiderman movie was how they merged Gwen Stacey and Mary Jane Watson into a single character - so she ended up having two distinctly different personalities. In high school, she's effectively Gwen Stacey, and then after they graduate, she becomes MJ. That was badly handled. They should've either introduced Gwen as a separate character or if they wanted Peter to have known MJ from childhood, then just write her as MJ and lose the Gwen persona altogether. The thing I didn't like about the second movie was how Doc Ock also got a split personality (i.e.: Octavius vs tentacles); not because it's an inherently bad idea, but because it's just getting overdone in the Spiderman movies to have characters with multiple personalities! There's MJ/Gwen, Osbourne/Gobby... and now Octavius/DocOck. And we know that Venom's probably gonna be another mulitple personality too (Brock/symbiote). *sigh* Let's try something new - a villain WITHOUT a dual personality complex!!!

But the single most ridiculous part of Spiderman 2 was the suggestion that you could create nuclear energy from an atom of freaking Tritium!! HELLO!? If you're gonna try to tie existing science with fiction, then at least make it bloody believable. If not, then just INVENT your own form of fictional science or sorcery, because if it's not real, then you can't really question it (e.g.: magic, Adamantium, the Force/Midichlorians etc).

But the biggest thing that I feel has been lacking in the Spiderman movies is his humorous smart-arse commentary during fights. We had some of it, but it's not enough -- no where near as much as what we see from Spidey in the comics! Although my favourite smart-arse line from movie Spidey is, "That's a cute outfit... did your husband give it to you?" ;D

Having said all that, I do like the Spiderman movies and I'm looking forward to the next one. (:

I think the main thing for folks to remember with movies like Spiderman, X-Men, Transformers etc is that they are a separate entity from the original source that they've spawned from and ought to be regarded as such.

Doh. :redface

Okay. Get it now. I was a little tired from work when I saw that and didn't realise gobby meant Green Goblin.

is it so hard to say: this film is not based on any current tf mythos

I think they did fairly early on.

like i said i think this arguementing between the fandoms should stop, we now know G1 is not going to happen, ever.

That much is true.

Could be worse. I remember when they announced the film they showed clips from Transformers Energon. We nearly got an energon movie, THAT would have sucked.

no insult to energon fans, but i have to agree with that (just :tflaugh )

and i am a hugh spidy fan and yes i noticed the dr ock duel personalities. (they should bring him back as a total villain next time - and not just a plot device for parker/spider-man)

This movie needs the Cybernet Space Cube
