on-topic: I kinda like that Soundwave picture, but there's no way he'd look that G1-ish. Not that I even see a need for Soundwave to be in a TF movie anyway. They already put Frenzy in the first one, so there's no more need for a boom box transformer. And if they change Soundwave's alt mode, then why call him Soundwave?

 

As far as I'm concerned, Blackout = Soundwave.

continuing on-topic: can soundwave indeed be done? i mean blackout had a lot of SW's characteristics and so if SW happened, wouldnt he just be a copy of Blackout?

 

pete brings up good points. the name doesnt work very well for a non-musical TF. however, a communications vehicle from the military like the alt mode of that image could carry such a name and make sense

Said it before and I'll say it again: Blackout was not Soundwave. Soundwave's two most iconic characteristics are his vocoder voice and him having a legion of cassetticons. Blackout had one Minicon and no Soundwave voice.

 

I'll admit there are similarities between the two. But not enough to warrent writing out Soundwave for the sequel. I'd actually like to see them expand on the similarities, retcon Blackout into a former subordinate of Soundwave, with Soundwave returning as a communications officer now that Blackout is dead. He doesn't even need a noise-based Alt-Mode, so long as he's a communications officer. Their names often correspond to their roles more than their alt-modes. And just because he's a communications officer doesn't mean he needs to have a communications alt-mode. I mean, Epps doesn't turn into a tape deck, does he?

 

Look, all I want is a decent movie Soundwave toy, with good G1 homages. I don't really care about the alt-mode. Whatever it is, it's got to be better than the horrid Animated toy.
