Isn't that a contradiction, since he'd spend the entire time Starscreaming about...his own alt. mode?

IMHO, I see Soundwave as an undercover surveillance van, nondescript on the outside but full of monitoring and recording equipment on the inside. I also think he would pair well with Barricade in this mode.

This is also a good idea, with ample options for SW's minions (a spare tire, dvd player, etc...). My only problem with the surveillance van idea is that is lacks the same "statement" a stealth fighter/bomber would make.

If you see a stealth fighter drop three bombs, then transform and land on earth fully transformed into SW, with the three bombs transforming into his minions mid free-fall, that would send a statement that this is a guy you don't want to mess with.

A surveillance van seems to lack the needed "kick ass-ness" a stealth bomber would.

Granted, this is an easy fix. If they featured SW and Co. transforming from their surveillance van mode and then kicking series ass, all would be well. IMO though a stealth bomber would just work better at portraying SW as the badass he would need to be.

 

On the stealth fighter idea, did anyone notice that right before Blackout landed at the start of the movie a F-117 was seen about to take off? They could work this being Soundwave knowing to get out of the way. His absence from the first film could be explained by him simply not wanting to work under Starscream. Essentially SW's story in the second movie could be his quest to revive Megatron.

though i am what most may call a G1 purist, i feel that if soundwave is going to be something other than an audio recording device, the best option would be an SNG/ENG News Van.

or or

with all the equipment inside it would make it easy for his minions to be property executed. Laserbeak could be the dish, Rumble or Ravage could be the ENG News Camera and or Tape Machines.

 

I think a stealthbomber would be more appropriate for someone else, say Skywarp.

it would work really well if soundwave was a military surveillance vehicle and shockwave was a satellite as mentioned in his thread. soundwave would collect info and send to shocky who then would send a signal to bring down the whoopass on autobots.

A Tape Deck style Soundwave isn't so farfetched as a possibility, but I'll continue to be open on other ideas. Just leave flying out of it. With Starscream, Megatron, and Blackout being flyers...it's only a matter of time before other seekers come into the picture.

 

Also, with two characters begging to be the new baddy (Soundwave and Shockwave), I wouldn't be suprised if they changed one's name. Too many waves especially if Bay goes through with Tidal Wave as a tanker ship.

 

Oh, and to those who believe that Soundwave never did his own recon, I clearly remember him infiltrating the Ark to screw w/Teletran1. Need more? There's an episode where the Dinobots guard a meteor or something. Soundwave by himself does a little listening in and Megatron used the information to turn the Dinobots against Optimus.
