Worst Alternator

Recommended Posts

Worst alternator? Blasphemy, I say. The least well executed, maybe.

In all honesty, even though Alternators are my favorite line, I'll readily admit that the line has been plagued a bit by near misses. Or perhaps better, things were HasTak screwed up.

The Subaru mold: the clear visibility of the legs in altmode, while in robotmode the legs also weren't that great. (Considering the Mazda, this was also clear to them.)

The Dodge Viper: the hood hanging from his back and the posability problems with the legs. (Considering the Honda S2000, this was also clear to them.)

The Jeep: the empty space in the chest looks weird.

The corvette: the lack of leg posability. The car parts get to much in the way. Also, it has been shown by kitbashers that the attachment of the doors to the upper body hinders the legs. By cutting this off and re-attaching it to the legs, the legs gain a lot of posability.

The Acura: the standard design of the legs should've been turned round. This would've given Prowl a more G1 look and it greatly improves posability.

But these are all minor, really.

The alternator with the biggest problems is the Dodge Ram. The lack of real upper legs in robot mode for some unexplainable reason (as shown by many, with some minor modifications the upper legs can extend more, giving him more size in robot mode and actual upper legs), the weak support in the ankles, the loose arms-body connection and the loose chest. In altmode there's the problem of the parts aligning, the visibility of the arms and at the same time the absolute gaping hole under the truck. This one, should have and could have been much better.

Of course, there's also the naming problem. Rollbar should've been Swerve, Swerve should've been someone else (my choice is Roadhandler) and Camshaft should've been Swindler.

Oh, and Skids is plain ugly in both alt and robot mode. He's the Energon Prime of the alt line.

PS. What do a lot of people have against Ricochet? I've had no QC problems on mine and although the flames are tacky in altmode, in robotmode I feel they nicely break up the otherwise monotone black of the car parts. Actually, Ricochet is probably my favorite version of the Subaru mold.

Disclaimer: I don't own all the Alternators.

Personally I find all the Decepticon alts to be sorely lacking. Most all of them are half-trying repaints/remolds that have nothing to do with their G1 incarnation at all. Many rave about Kitty Ravage, but the fact is he doesn't fit in with the rest of the line. Rumble might have been OK had he had fists AND piledrivers. To me, the only Decpticon I am even moderately interested in getting someday is Shockwave. That's a great mold, and somehow changing forms from a cannon to a car makes far more sense. (Just thought of it, but obviously Nemesis Prime is a standout among the Decpticons as well)

Of all the Autobots, I like Skids the least. He just doesn't look right next to the others, I can't put my finger on it.

it's cuz he's short. :tftounge

short? did you pull his legs out fully? they do extend

the corvettes have the least posability but i think rollbar is the worst just because of the lack of effort and detail in both modes...

Tracks. Too much leg kibble for me. Really makes it kinda hard for me to pose him.

Crap, I just bought a Tracks off a member. I'll see what I can do about all this I guess...

you know i usually hate the bots without hands. (cy wingsaber) but rumble is alright i just push the drivers up and lock'em in place retracted the twist the arms up at the shoulders with the face of the drivers pointing forward, so that they look like big f'n cannons on each side and it looks alot better than standing there with cylinders hanging down.

Its weird - i dont have any problems with the Vette Mold.

he has a lot kibble that impacts range as well as no knee and limited hip rotation...

What's funny is that before this thread was bumped the Alternator that people liked the least was Swerve.

I just got a Binaltech Ravage and I love the thing. Leg posability isn't bad, just swing the car parts upwards and you have more mobility than most figures do.
