Once Bay has finished raping the still-warm corpse of this franchise...

Recommended Posts

Something I posted elsewhere got me thinking: once Bay's made TF3, that will hopefully be it for his *ahem* unique take on the franchise.

I predict that like the original Batman franchise and now Spiderman, the studio will let it rest for a few years and then reboot it (I'm guessing around 2017). In all likelihood, the studio will probably (hopefully) follow the Batman Begins model of starting from scratch with a new artistic direction and a talented director; so here's the question:

Name your dream writers/directors for a Transformers film, briefly explaining why.

My picks?

Writer: Shane Black - he wrote the first Lethal Weapon, Long Kiss Goodnight and several other awesome '80s/90's action films.

Director 1: Neill Blomkamp - directed THAT Citroen commercial, made waves with District 9; would probably work from his own screenplay as he is also a talented writer.

Director 2: Michael Mann - Could guarantee two things with this man on board: the coolest soundtrack you could wish for and some amazingly stylish car chases/gunfights.

Director 3: James Cameron - the man Michael Bay wishes he could be. I don't think I even have to justify this, apart from the fact that it may not be a pipe dream if he's finished with Avatar by the time the studio reboots Transformers.

Director 4: Peter Jackson - he has the power of Weta studios behind him for the robots. Also, I'd love to see what he'd do with SF as opposed to fantasy. Most of his output suggests he has exactly the right sensibilities for this project.

Can anyone come up with some less predictable suggestions?

Woody Allen will direct the reboot.

If he did, we might get some snappy dialogue and humour that's actually funny...

They can hire anybody and you still won't like it. The reason is no matter who they get Peter Jackson, Sam Rami, James cameron, it's gonna be just a job to them the exact same way they hire Michael Bay to do just another job.

I do have to agree with John 14:6 Jackson's movies were long and boring and lets face it, Aliens and Terminator kicked ass, but other wise Cameron's an art house hack (I hated Avatar)

Hire any of these people and all your gonna get is there last movie, but with robots instead of blue aliens and midgets.

What you need, is someone who WANTS to make a Transformers movie, and sadly even with all the money and fan fair from the first 2 films, not a single person is stepping up to the plate. The powers that be are raking in money, so why should they want to change a dam thing.

It would be nice if they'd listen to our imput, but when more threads start off with titles like

Once Bay has finished raping the still-warm corpse of this franchise...

It kinda takes away from our credability and makes us easy to dismiss, as after all, they are still counting the money.

So on that note, I'm gonna agree with this,

And deal with the fact that real simple, it is what it is.

Then again, I really haven't loked a series since Beast Machines, so maybe I'm just use to the hack attitude that goes into TF media?

It's really nothing new, and honestly I'm only still in this for the toys which I have to say Bay did a great job of pushing an envelope on :thumb

JJ Abrams

George Lucas

Peter Jackson

Someday someone who grew up with Transformers who is somewhere now becoming a prominent director will emerge to make a Transformers film that speaks to the G1 crowd while pushing the envelope for the folks who like that in the Bay films---this I prophesize.

On the other hand, I'm getting to the point where I think these cartoon properties would be better served by staying out of the live action movie business, sticking with great big screen animation instead. That's just me.

sorry, delayed double post?
