Once Bay has finished raping the still-warm corpse of this franchise...

I really loved what Michael Bay did for the first Transformers movie. A chance to see Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, and all the others in a real world setting and not just in a cartoon was a real treat. It became a movie I could repeatedly watch because there would be only a couple scenes I would skip. One of which was Judy's appearance.

Then came ROTF. I guess I was expecting the same Autobots and Decepticons with more of the Generation 1 mechs to make an appearance on the screen. Instead goofy and in Wheelie's case, nasty, childlike robots specifically for the movie appeared. With legions of Transformers fans and lots of Generation 1 mechs to choose from, I wonder why the movie creators decided that those loyal fans would prefer seeing those 3 and robots with human-looking sex parts and bodily functions and not fan favorites like the return of Jazz, Sunstreaker, Prowl, Bluestreak, Hook, Astrotrain, and others.

While I didn't expect an oscar worthy acting performance, I did hope to see more than just two characters who's biggest action is to drop their pants, or a ditzy, potty mouthed mom who could only act crazier. And while I wasn't expecting an oscar nod for writing, I did hope to hear more from most of the human characters than just toilet jokes, references to male body parts, and curses. Then instead of working with the good characters; Sam, Major Lennox, and Captain Epps, they decided to add on two new characters. One which was a silly, potty mouthed, wimp the other an arrogant idiot.

I did enjoy ROTF, but I left the theater with a lot of thoughts on how it could have been made better. While I give Bay some slack as the script had been written during the chaos of the writer's strike, I hope he realizes that TF3 doesn't have to be one long potty joke or a series of gas-passing / organ dragging bots or a string of ditzy, pants dropping, weed eating, potty mouthed humans.

It's great that you enjoyed RotF; unfortunately, the prevailing IRL impression I have from talking to casual movie going, non-transformers fan friends is that they hated it as much as I did. Moreso, in fact.

I saw RotF the first time with a friend who was also a TF fan, though not as much so as me. We discussed it after and I mentioned how much I hated the crude humor scenes. But then he pointed at that, at least for our audience, "they worked." Though I hate to admit it, most of the theater was laughing at all those scenes.

I wonder if, really, most movie goers enjoyed the movie like the people we saw it with. If a lot of people did enjoy the action, special effects, and humor as a mindless, fun distraction, I don't think we'll see much change down the road...

The two times I went to see this movie, people were having a BALL. They could not get enough of any of the comedy in the movie, and so I'd guess Bay & Co. found their target audience...and they definitely struck a chord with said audience. So, I'm certain we'll see more of the same. Granted, I hated the movie, but I am most definitely part of an insignificant minority.

TF3 will make money, hand over fist.

Yep, you're spot on.

As a TF fan in his 30s I long came to the realisation that I wasn't the target demographic for the Bay TF movies. Whilst I sat in my cinema seat cringing at the 'Sam's happy time scene' and 'Wheelie leg jumping scene' the rest of the audience were belly laughing and lapping it up.

It's a winning formula that has more than exceeded it's box office targets ... a mixture of humour, CGI, violence and smut that has proven to be a popular success.

I'd advise TF fans to just try and take what enjoyment you can from the movies, and read the comics for their genuine authentic transformers storytelling fix.

I went during opening night it was kind of mixed.

I enjoyed seeing the what little screen time the bots received. ILM does one hell of a job on these guys. :thumb

I'm hoping things will change, because TV is changing. As sitcoms popularity is fading, more shows with a dramatic edge are taking the place. Shows like CSI, Fringe, Southland, and Lost, are becoming more popular than ever. While reruns of sitcoms are still around, new ones seem to come and go every month. Maybe Bay and company will take more from the popularity of CSI and Fringe and put more of a dramatic spin on the movie. After all, Bay did say that TF3 will be a darker film.

He also said the last one would be darker and more meaningful - his 'Empire Strikes Back' - and, well...

Festering celluloid cancerous AIDS-fail of a chronically ill-judged and ill-constructed movie instead? Why yes, it appears so.

Michael Bay has done a hell of a job! He brought Transformers from G1 back from the dead.

As far as I'm concern there is no doubt that Transformers 3 will be a big hit!

I love his style of film making, he is the best action director on Earth! I really don't know

what people wanted from Revenge Of The Fallen? Did you expect some Oscar worthy

performances from a movie about giant robots?! It's a fun movie and you should accept it like that!

All hail Michael Bay!!!

we wanted a good movie not a stupid toilet humor flick I personally want a reboot instead of another waste of time and money

The premise of a film being 'darker' is not necessarily a good thing. For instance: I HATE The Crow. Also, much ado was made over the sequel to Jurassic Park being edgy, dark and almost gothic in feel. However--and this is discounting the fact that I actually almost got shot going to go see it--The Lost World stands right there with true sh*t like 3,000 Miles to Graceland, Monster in Law and Dirty Love as one of the worst films of a generation.

Honestly, though: one does have to ask himself this question: 'what exactly is it that I want from Michael Bay with regards to future Transformers films?' And it is crucial to separate yourself from that part of you that truly believes that the movie would have been AWESOME if it had been done the way YOU think it should have been done. Even with everything we know about how Michael Bay directs, even his staunchest critic must admit: given the subject matter and the director, a fairly decent job was done in the '07 film. It was carried by its special effects, but it DID have a decent number of actors turning in good/decent performances. There were sizeable discrepancies in the plot--which was surprisingly simple--but it DID have a discernible beginning, middle and end. Overall, the movie made sense, and as Michael Bay is a genius at directing movies that make no sense at all, I do give him credit for it.

ROTF, however, is a loss. The characters--each and every one of them--feel hollow. They feel that way because they are. And that is the franchises greatest sin. Because, up until the Beast Era, the TFs could not tell a discerible story if their lives depended on it. The greatest aspect of the TFs were and are great characters. So many of these characters were and are memorable, and it is lost in the Bayverse. One mech is indistinguishable from the next. You don't care about any one of them because there is no reason to. Characters like Optimus Prime come across as animate archetypes, and I don't want that. I FELT Prime in G1 Season 1 and in Animated.

I feel no one in the Bayverse.

Forget the plot. Forget the directing style. Forget which new TF is going to pop up in the movie. Just give me a reason to care about the beings in the Bayverse. This isn't supposed to be that hard.

I play with my 6-year old with all my Animated and Movie figures, and the stories we come up with attempt to do that much: establish characters that identify each individual character and their motivations, and have fun.

Ridley Scott should take-over and give us real Transformers movies.

Ridley Scott should take-over and give us real Transformers movies.

I heard he was remaking "Alien", so he's probably a little busy at the moment. That SAID... it would be pretty cool to see what he'd do...

To all those people out here who come into this thread to tell us we're idiots for DIS-liking Michael Bay I humbly request that you let us have our little thread to discuss how we just don't like the guy's movies.

It's cathartic.

It makes us feel BETTER, because goodness knows, for us? Watching the Movie sure doesn't.

If you want to post some 'evidence' as to why you believe he's a good film maker, go ahead! It's all good in the interest of a civilized discussion, But this "What did you expect?" thing cheapens the series (as several posters pointed out earlier) and all you do is get people all hot and bothered. This thread is about about what/ who we'd liked to see in or from a possible future movie that has nothing to do with Michael Bay. (Though I will admit that the title of this thread is a little reactionary; maybe the Necrophiliac imagery is... just a little too much eh? ;) )

But getting back on topic:

I am going to need some kind of Reboot to even THINK about getting back "Into" Transformers. Period. Honestly? After I get my Animated Arcee toy (IF I do) I'm done with the whole franchise until something that interests me comes along, and goodness knows I don't hold out hope of it being TF3.

But I do agree with Liege Evilmus a little, I think at this point after all the disappointment over ROTF, to pin all our hopes and dreams on a new director would be little risky and unfair, and I'd almost rather wait till a true fan (Who happens to be a good director) makes an attempt.

But then again, it'd still be nice to get away from Bay for while. :shrug
