Once Bay has finished raping the still-warm corpse of this franchise...

Personally for me all I want is more character development for the bots and tone down that so called "humor". If the "humor" wasn't forced so much I most likely wouldn't have cared. As far as characterization, I loved the sequence in the first film when the autobots were at Sam's house. The interaction between them was great, loved Ironhide in those scenes. Although I would have liked for them to use that same content with the Cons since they seem to be getting the shaft in the movies.

I didn't care too much for the first movie but I gave it the benefit of the doubt even have it on DVD, ROTF however was just....wow. It Its like the movie starts off decent the plummets down hill dramatically. TF3 I pretty much agree with everyone else will consist of the same blueprints. I hope I'm wrong and would like to see a decent picture, but won't expect too much. Even with Bay's resolutions.

Honestly I don't care if people did like the movie, I liked some parts of it, but just because I don't LOVE every single minute of it makes me no less of a TF fan nor a snob. :rofl

Ridley Scott should take-over and give us real Transformers movies.

I heard he was remaking "Alien", so he's probably a little busy at the moment. That SAID... it would be pretty cool to see what he'd do...

Michael Bay has done a hell of a job! He brought Transformers from G1 back from the dead.

As far as I'm concern there is no doubt that Transformers 3 will be a big hit!

I love his style of film making, he is the best action director on Earth! I really don't know

what people wanted from Revenge Of The Fallen? Did you expect some Oscar worthy

performances from a movie about giant robots?! It's a fun movie and you should accept it like that!

All hail Michael Bay!!!

To all those people out here who come into this thread to tell us we're idiots for DIS-liking Michael Bay I humbly request that you let us have our little thread to discuss how we just don't like the guy's movies.

It's cathartic.

It makes us feel BETTER, because goodness knows, for us? Watching the Movie sure doesn't.

If you want to post some 'evidence' as to why you believe he's a good film maker, go ahead! It's all good in the interest of a civilized discussion, But this "What did you expect?" thing cheapens the series (as several posters pointed out earlier) and all you do is get people all hot and bothered. This thread is about about what/ who we'd liked to see in or from a possible future movie that has nothing to do with Michael Bay. (Though I will admit that the title of this thread is a little reactionary; maybe the Necrophiliac imagery is... just a little too much eh? ;) )

But getting back on topic:

I am going to need some kind of Reboot to even THINK about getting back "Into" Transformers. Period. Honestly? After I get my Animated Arcee toy (IF I do) I'm done with the whole franchise until something that interests me comes along, and goodness knows I don't hold out hope of it being TF3.

But I do agree with Liege Evilmus a little, I think at this point after all the disappointment over ROTF, to pin all our hopes and dreams on a new director would be little risky and unfair, and I'd almost rather wait till a true fan (Who happens to be a good director) makes an attempt.

But then again, it'd still be nice to get away from Bay for while. :shrug

Ah, the title. I must admit, I did that on purpose as an attention-grabber. I agree with everything you say, the way Hasbro has almost wholly given over to the Bayverse sent me into the arms of Macross for the time being ('80's Macross, the new designs are technically astounding but lack the heart of the originals)...

EDIT: I did actually think Ridley Scott could have done an awesome job with this (Blade Runner, anyone?), but he's likely to be busy with projects perceived as more serious and worthy.

And perhaps that is Michael Bay's greatest Sin in all this; while Transformers 1 got reasonable respect from critics and general audiences, ROTF has turned the Franchise into a Butt-Joke that "Serious" directors will probably never take time dig beneath and see the true potential.

To me Transformers was always an epic about aliens who came to earth who are, though highly advanced, still as flawed as we are. Megatron refuses to see this (or maybe he sees it too clearly?) and as such has no love for organics, and would rather see them wiped out. The Autobots, (Though Mixed in their feelings) come to see that sometimes they are just as Human as we are... and Blah Blah Blah... I guess a really good Transformer Story would be VAGUELY like "Avatar" in reverse. (Transformers Come from space for our rare fuel sources. "Cool Stuff" happens.)

But instead... Michael Bay makes ROTF... and the Series turns into a giant pair of Steel Man-Bits dangling before audiences like a Southpark Gag that was rejected for being "Way too Immature". Nothing against South Park, it's just not my personal cup of tea, and I definitely don't want it in my Cup-of-Transformers, Thank-You-Very-Much.

BTW; before I go, I'd just like to say that I'm glad that my posts have been agreeable to ya Giant Robot,( :beer ) and that if you and all the other great Commentors (again: :beer ) in this thread formed an "Betterment of The Transformers Films" League tomorrow, I'd join today!

Wait... that didn't come out right... :wtf

Having read the comic linked to in your sig, if anyone here should be contributing to bettering Transformers films, it's you. The whole set up was like everything good in the first film with all the bad excised. Well done.

Anyway, for now I'll just leave this old drawing here...

I found it in my old Photobucket account. Why didn't ILM think of something like this?

I thought RotF did a pretty good job with the Megatron/Starscream interaction. When you think back to the G1 cartoon, the vast majority of Decepticon "character development" (that term seems to get thrown around so much) was between Megatron and Starscream.

Oh don't get me wrong I really liked those scenes too. SS getting beat with his own arm makes me laugh every time. True in G1 the primary focus were on Megs and SS, however there were interactions between other cons as well.

Yes my beef is the lack of character development "thrown" around here. I still believe that I should not have to go digging around trying to find out "personalities" on some of the bots. Even if its just a few lines at least it will give me an idea as to the character. I'm not suggesting that every single bot in the movies needs to be characterized. Main characters of course ( bots) followed by a few supporting roles here and there. Like I said think it was exceptionally done well with the autobots in the first film.

You're right about that. It seems like they wanted to focus so much on these new human characters they added in, that they had to shrink the time spent on the robots. I mean look at how much time was spent with no talent Leo Spitz, the idiot professor, the arrogant government agent, and Sam's parents. You hardly see some of the robots from the first movie!

I found it in my old Photobucket account. Why didn't ILM think of something like this?

I like your Soundwave pic, it's a good combination of the old look with the PSP aesthetics thrown in. And John 14:6? I know you said that you prefer the newer movie-style designs to G1, (and I will admit a certain affinity for them myself; I needed a break from the G1 Aesthetic when the movies were coming out) I "Think" (IE: Have no clue at all) what Giant Robot was saying was for the movie to have done something LIKE a PSP. It would not only have been more marketable than a satellite, but something that was also a little more classic as well in the sense that he turns into a gadget as opposed to... a satellite that... kind of looks like a folded up robot. :/

And also before I go, I just want to thank Giant Robot (very much!) for the compliments you payed me on the comic. I'm always honored when people I don't force to look at my stuff actually look at my stuff! :tfgrin

Also, just so you know it is indeed one of my "Dreams" to someday (somehow) give a slightly more faithful and Respectable film treatment to the Transformers and Resident Evil franchises. That said, given the speed at which I am currently attaining my life goals; I'm not going to Bank on it happening any time soon. :shrug

Thanks for the compliments on my drawing. It's getting on a bit now...

Resident Evil films - let's not even go there; too much head-hurty badness :doh

Likewise, if I had the first remote clue about making films and access to camera equipment, I'd be working towards that goal as well. Ah well, we can dream...

Finally, with regards to the aesthetics of the live-action Transformers, it was novel at first, but in RotF it just looked like whirlwinds of auto-scrap colliding. Check this out, wait for the fight between Prime and Megatron - it just feels more visceral to watch:

Also this, the ending is one of the downright meanest things I've ever seen...

I will admit I liked it better in the first movie when they were a bit more humanoid than the second; a guy whose robot mode is a giant wheel is kind of silly... But also I think it doesn't help that Michael bay just really failed at filming the bot designs in a way that did them justice.

Someone once said that the best bot scene in the film is when Prime stands in the Hangar, because he's not so Over-animated and he looks much more natural and... I agree.

And in regards to the videos you linked: Awesome, and awesome. Let's face it; we all wanted to punch Wheelie at some point or other! :tflaugh

Wouldn't the choice of calling the franchise a corpse imply you think that Transformers was dead prior to Michael Bay's involvement with it?
