20th Anniversary Optimus or Movie Leader Class Optimus, who da best???

Recommended Posts

... I like movie Voyager Prime more than either.

My Masterpiece Prime can't hold his gun well and has floppy wrists. Between that and pretty worthless knees (they buckle if they're bent past 15 degrees) he's not even that great for posing. That said, his accessories are godly. And he's too damn big and heavy to be good for playing.

Leader Prime was just too clunky looking for me. Don't care if he was more accurate than Voyager Prime, movie Prime was lean and athletic looking.

Voyager Prime is posable, playable, and looks awesome in every single pose. Plus he has firing missiles. And his sole bit of kibble works in his favor, in my opinion. He's got a ton of potential "attack modes" with it.

I agree with Hunter Rose. In terms of value for money, I'd go for movie Leader Class Prime who I reckon is one of the best engineered Optimus Prime toys since Laser Prime.

Masterpiece Convoy comes close though and 20th Anniversary Optimus Prime is a bastardisation of a good MP mould. Blecchh.

If MP Prime is really that much better than 20th OP, and 20th OP allready rocks ... then how damn good is MP Prime ??? I was happy with my 20th OP, now I want an MP Prime - all your fault Gocktimus =(

btw: What besides the color is different on MP Prime ?

the smokestacks are longer.... thats it

Movie Prime sucks if only because he looks like the Optimus Prime in the movie, which also sucks.

MP Optimus Prime is the greatest toy ever. EVER!

and you can get replacement long stacks for the tardo stacks for about 10 bucks, too.

I don't get why people say that MP Prime is more poseable than Movie prime. I've had The movie guy in all kinds of wild poses, but MP has a tendency to lose his feet and fall over if you move him around too much.

I love MP as a display piece, but the fun factor is with Movie Prime.

Schlecki02: MP Convoy has none of those ugly "battle damage" - which is done really poorly on 20th Anniv. Prime and just looks like someone went spastic with an airbrush gun. Battle damage is good if it's done properly (as it overall was on Hasbro's MP Starscream) but on 20th Anniv. Prime it was done poorly and looks crap. And for some stupid reason Hasbro loves shortening the smokestacks on Optimus Prime, and that also makes it look bleecchhh.

At least Hasbro's MP Ultra Magnus was exactly the same as Takara's... don't know why they insist on bastardising Optimus Prime though. :/

There... was no Hasbro Ultra Magnus.

And I wound up getting DVD Prime, which didn't have the battle damage. And the shortened stacks don't bother me in the slightest. Which is odd, because they do on the reissue Primes (I don't like my Pepsi Prime's stacks). What bothers me is what I hope is poor quality control, or is just problems with the mold.

Not to derail the thread, but I'd have to respectfully disagree about the "battle damage" on 20th Prime. Mine appears to have a much lighter and more subtle application than the one shown in that picture. If anything, it brings a lot of depth and character to an otherwise plain and boxy mold, IMO. The shading on the shoulders, forearms, and lower thighs appear more like weathering than damage. Just what you'd expect from an ancient and triumphant leader that has seen many battles over the centuries. The only marks I would classify as actual battle damage is the scorch marks on his grill/abs. Those, I don't particularly care for. I also agree that 20th Prime got shafted in the stacks department. We did, however, get the correct black cannon. Go figure. If anyone's the bastard step child of the MP Primes, it has to be DVD Prime with his yellow face vents, short stacks, non-chromed accents, and blue cannon. (don't get me started on the non-Cullen speaking base.) Talk about blechhh.

Back on topic, I would vote 20th Prime in a second. I don't really think it is a fair comparison to make though. One is more of a toy, the other is more of a collectible. You can transform, pose, and play with either, but they don't really have the same quality.
