That's a rather totalitarian approach (i.e.: the ends justifies the means) - which of course, as the word implies, is the ethical basis behind totalitarian states such as autocratic dictatorships.

From a more utilitarian perspective, it's still wrong regardless of whether you get caught or not (as utilitarianism states that the ends never justifies the means).

Reading through and I can't help but wonder, what makes people think that the molds to the figures were stolen?

I've only heard one story about the company who makes them. If it is true, then they are not stolen. Now trademark issues are another thing. But I'm not here for that.

The story goes that basically Hasbro sold off an old factory they weren't using anymore and the molds for these figures were stored away somewhere inside which they neglected to take with them.

Well, once the new owners take full possession then whatever was left behind becomes property of the new owners.

Now this sounds like a very plausible story to me. I think they had these molds for quite some time and Has/Tak probably tried to deal with them to get them back but no deal could be made. They probably had to wait awhile too before they could make them to let the patents expire.

So the company waited and ended up putting them out themselves.

I would think if THERE WAS A SINGLE THING that Has/Tak could do, they would have been shut down before a single box left the warehouse. Most certainly by now.

I think the fact that Hasbro has had little or no comment on the matter seems to indicate to me that they may have written the whole issue off.

I guess we'll see over time how this all plays out. But as of now, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot that anyone can do about. If you like them, then great, knock yourself out. If you hate them, hate them all you want and don't buy them but it's useless to judge others that do and try to make them stop.

Things like this are always going to be a part of a successful collectors franchise. Learn to deal with it!

Besides that I don't want to get caught and punished doing something that I know is illegal, I don't give a damn if some thing's illegal. It's the morality behind what you're doing that counts. I don't have a problem with KO's and downloading music and the like, I don't think that such things are wrong. As G-Prime said, the ends don't justify the means unless you're willing to open the door on another Mao Tsetung (The hell with Pinion! I'll spell it like it sounds, the Chinese have no right to tell me how to spell their damn words in MY alphabet).

(The hell with Pinion! I'll spell it like it sounds, the Chinese have no right to tell me how to spell their damn words in MY alphabet).

To be honest, Chinese is not an easy language to Romanise as it simply contains a lot of sounds which simply don't exist in European languages. And it's not as if the Wade-Giles system or Yale system is any better than the Pinyin system of Sino-Romanisation. What's more important is that they stick to a universal standard of Romanisation just to make things easier.

To Pinyin's credit, it is at least consistent in its assignment of letters to phonemes which is something which certainly cannot be said about the use of the Roman alphabet in the English language.

Yeahhh... I'm going to have to go ahead and... disagree with you on that one.

Well done, though -- I counted what, three times that you've been a flaming troll now? That'll be one warn for each; congrats.

.....I hope you're not serious. If you are then that's ridiculous.
