TFans' Official 'Transformers Movie' Thread

Recommended Posts

I cannot actaully believe there are someout there that want the eighties soundtrack to appear anywhere in or neat this movie. Maybe on the CD... whatever floats your boat... but who in their right minds digs up a 20 year old soundtrack for a new movie. As Homestar says, "Seriously."

I agree. I am wanting to see this movie more like the Tim Burton Batman (Beast Wars/Energon) and less like the campy 60's TV show Batman (G1 season 1 & 2). Which one do you really want see?

Heh. I'm probably not the best one to answer this since I like the campy 60's Batman.

But you know, I don't see anything wrong with stuff like the violin lady in Spiderman 2 playing the cartoon theme song. You know, nods to the original stories and tunes. Having Stan bush belting out Dare during the opening credits may not be the best plan, but having it coming out of a radio sometime during the movie would be pretty cool. :thumb

I like 60's Batman too (grab my shark repellant), it is fun. G1 is fun. But I want a semi serious adult film that will appeal to people who just want to see cool transforming robots fight on screen.

The kids (me) who grew up on Prime and the others are now 25-30 year old adults (at least in age). We don't need a campy remake with dated rock music. This movie (if done correctly) will hopefully mirror X-Men. Appeal to the fans & appeal to average action movie goes.

Keep it mostly dark and show the nuts and bolts being blown out of each other. Throw in the TF:TM soundtrack on the radio for a little humor :thumb

Both could be good if done right. But yeah, the prevailing opinion seems to be dark and at least semi-serious.

Although I can also see some old phrases popping up from time to time. Like Ironhide saying "leaking lubricant" or Ultra Magnus saying "I can't deal with that now". :tfgrin

As far as the soundtrack goes ... My feeling about film scores is that if you notice them during a movie then they aren't doing their job properly. The purpose of a score is to enhance the emotional impact of a scene, or moment. It isn't supposed to distract you from that moment. So really, I don't care what the score is done as. Symphony, 80's keyboard, Death metal, hip-hop, jugband ... whatever. As long as it fits with the scene.

Although, as a musical style, country is probably not well suited to a movie about giant robots. Unless it's giant robots invading Nashville of course. :thumb

Hey, there's an idea. We need banjo chase music every time the Autobots roll out. :thumb

And to post something moderately on topic, I agree that if you notice the soundtrack, it's probably not working right. And wow, do I notice the TF:TM soundtrack. And not in a good way. I mean, I'm a big Weird Al fan, like all card-carrying geeks are, but I thought the extended "Dare To Be Stupid" in the movie was really distracting.

some cool dramatic rock synthony like Citizen Erased by Muse during a battle where lives are lost would be cool

Jazz should listen to ska music, it just simply makes sense that he would listen to two tone

is there any final choices on what megs and soundwave turn into?

A motorcycle and a dump truck.

Well, it was a great soundtrack when the original movie was released, but like any 20 year old soundtrack that isn't orchestral in nature, it's dated now, and therefore sticks out like a sore thumb. In '87, they updated the original themesong for the movie by having Lion redo it by then current rock/metal standards, and at the time, it was awesome. So another, more modern remake of said theme, ore ven songs like Dare or The Touch, would fit in nicely. I see the soundtrack going more like the Daredevil, Punisher, and Spidey soundtracks, personally, with a bunch of current bands, a few well knowns and mainly upstarts, offering previously unreleased songs for an all original soundtrack. At least that's what I'm hoping for. (Would love to hear some new Thornley, Three Days Grace, and/or Our Lady Peace on the TF movie... :canada )

There is a report that DM got the 1st script.

Yo DM! Are you in here!

I agree, no 80's soundtrack. It worked for the G1 movie, but we have evolved a bit since then. I love G1 as much as the next 25-30 year old male, but 80's metal would not be a good thing.

As long as the songs aren't top 10 pop music, I'll be happy. I don't want Jessica Simpson (or her sister!) beltin' out the Transformers chorus.

Please DM, no hip hop when Megatron or the bad guys are on the screen. Don, what are your feelings on a orchestra (instrumental) soundtrack like Lucas did with Star Wars? For the record I don't want the TF movie to be like Star Wars or remind people of Star Wars, but I always liked Lucas' concept.
