Recommended Posts

If you can afford it, go for it. Besides, can you really see this being a big customs issue?

"Hey Fred, that looks like Osama bin Laden! And is that some kind'a Nook-Yoo-Ler bomb he's got?"

"F@#* that noise, Joe! This here pansy fanboy's tryin' ta import some kind'a Transformer that looks like a gun--AND THERE'S NO ORANGE CAP ON IT!!!"

"WHAT!!!! Quick, we gots ta get that sumbitch!"

:tflaugh :tflaugh1 :tfrofl :tflol

That's great.

came to 123 shipped

paid 113 for mp1, 100 for mp2 and 3, and 190 for 4, not too bad i guess

Don't bet on it. Given the official responses from the companies involved, Customs is going to be quite vigilant. I doubt many will make it through.

I doubt if Customs is going to be that vigilant.

While a crate of them might attract attention, a box here or there is pretty unlikely to be examined (e.g. a MP-05 ordered from an Asian seller).

Shoot, I had a buddy who imported a whole bunch of airsoft pistols from Germany. There were 25 of the shipment in there and none had red plugs - they arrived no problem.

Airsoft guns actually fall under slightly different catergoies since they actuall can fire a projectile. Pellet and BB guns often don't have the orange tips, but they also aren't supposed to be sold to anyone under 18. So that paticular example has nothing to do with this.

OK, OK, OK...Let's think about all of this for a second. Book Reissue Megatron #6 was originally released at the beginning of 2003. As I recall many of these were sold at US based online retailers without any problems (BBTS was not one of them), but TOYNK had a boatload of these back in the day and actually had a few a month ago or so. To further stress this point *HE WAS PACKAGED IN GUN MODE AND EASILY VIEWABLE THROUGH THE PACKAGE*.

Furthermore, although MP Megatron is a big deal to the Transformer community I doubt the rest of the world really cares too much about us (hence why Meg #6 came to our shores without a hitch). Also, it is my understanding that the US custom agents did not exactly graduate at the top of their High Schools (if they graduated at all). Here is an article about how radioactive material was smuggled into the US as part of a Government test of National Security.

So, don't listen to all the people who say that every custom officer is on the lookout for MP-Megatron. If someone does have a horror story about their Megatron book reissue #6 being confiscated please share with the rest of the community. But really...do you think they have this poster up in every customs port? --->

Your right, this isn't a high priority item to customs. Its not like they are seeking it out. But should they find one they will confiscate it. Simple as that. And those stores that plan on selling it could get fined heavily for importing illegal merchandise. Yes you have a pretty good chance of getting the figure through customs if you import it. But the stores in the US are jsut covering there own asses. And I don't blame them.

To add to what tentagil said, Under normal circumstances, it would not be a high priority for Custms, unless they were specifically told to keep an eye out for them, and, apparently, this is the case. From various reports, Hasbro and Takara have requested that Customs keep an eye out for any MP Megatrons coming through without the orange safety plug. As a result, you can be assured that they will be on the watch for them, and that increases the chances of unmodified MP Megatrons getting confiscated.

I checked with canadian customs directly.

I spoke with a custom agent. After giving him an url with pictures of MP5, he checked with the on duty firearm expert.

MP5 Megatron is a toy gun and can be imported without problem.

MP5 is not a replica of any gun in existence, therefore doesn't requires any import permits.

I was told by the agent that Takatomy actually used details from two different guns and merged them to create a unique look.

That's good planning on their part.

Of course, that means that MP5 Megatron doesn't transform into a Walter P38.

In the case it is mistaken for a replica, customs will hold the item until you present them with the proper importation permits.

In such case, it gives you the time to prove that it is not a replica, allowing them to release it to you.

I hope this helps.

Doesn't get any better than that. I ordered the unmodded and modded from A3U as well as BBTS respectively and although I missed out on the first round of unmodded preorders, I'll take my chance getting it from Canada.

OK.

I thought the rules were the same since all of the airsoft guns I've seen for sale around here have orange tips.

Well that rocks. For Canadaians. Hopefully for those of us in America, we might get lucky.

Okay, so we find ourselves on the long anticipated day of MP-05's release to the public. :clap

I have a preorder with BBTS, and like most people I am a little concerned about what exactly the effect of this little silly orange plug will be on the figure, and how difficult it will be to remove.

Will it be glued? Is it even removable? How long will it take for them to get modified?

I haven't heard any official news about the safety plug, other than it will be attached "pre-customs".

Does anyone know anything specific about this?
