Masterpiece Megatrons and Customs

Recommended Posts

OK, OK, OK...Let's think about all of this for a second. Book Reissue Megatron #6 was originally released at the beginning of 2003. As I recall many of these were sold at US based online retailers without any problems (BBTS was not one of them), but TOYNK had a boatload of these back in the day and actually had a few a month ago or so. To further stress this point *HE WAS PACKAGED IN GUN MODE AND EASILY VIEWABLE THROUGH THE PACKAGE*.

Furthermore, although MP Megatron is a big deal to the Transformer community I doubt the rest of the world really cares too much about us (hence why Meg #6 came to our shores without a hitch). Also, it is my understanding that the US custom agents did not exactly graduate at the top of their High Schools (if they graduated at all). Here is an article about how radioactive material was smuggled into the US as part of a Government test of National Security.

So, don't listen to all the people who say that every custom officer is on the lookout for MP-Megatron. If someone does have a horror story about their Megatron book reissue #6 being confiscated please share with the rest of the community. But really...do you think they have this poster up in every customs port? --->

But, we can't be absolutely certain, now can we? I can't risk a $100 purchase on the possible actions of US Customs.

That's pretty much been the thought since day one. It's a crapshoot, but likely 99.99% of them make it through unnoticed - you just don't want to be that 0.01% that does get seized.

Don't bet on it. Given the official responses from the companies involved, Customs is going to be quite vigilant. I doubt many will make it through.

I doubt if Customs is going to be that vigilant.

While a crate of them might attract attention, a box here or there is pretty unlikely to be examined (e.g. a MP-05 ordered from an Asian seller).

Shoot, I had a buddy who imported a whole bunch of airsoft pistols from Germany. There were 25 of the shipment in there and none had red plugs - they arrived no problem.

That simply means he got lucky. That doesn't mean that Customs wasn't vigilant.

I got mine from my importer which I think he got from Singapore or Japan I'm pretty sure it'll be the unmodded version too since I think we don't have such huge customs

All items seized at customs is DESTROYED. Yes, all items.

except the coke, they turn narcotics over to the DEA so it can be used in drug stings

Well, in about a week and a half, I'm going to find out if I'm going to get a modded or un-modded one, or one at all with the release being this week and then about a week for the shipments to arrive to the US.

Either way, with customs officials being relatively not bright and letting stuff slip through, I have faith that Megs'll come thru fine.

Besides, this wouldn't be a problem if people acted more responsibly and kids weren't so dumb, we wouldn't have these toy gun laws and Hasbro could have reissued Megatron himself alongside the reissue Optimus.

Just curious, but who did you order from to not know if it is modded or not?

screw it all, preordered offa ebay, seller guarantees no orange or money back.

If you can afford it, go for it. Besides, can you really see this being a big customs issue?

"Hey Fred, that looks like Osama bin Laden! And is that some kind'a Nook-Yoo-Ler bomb he's got?"

"F@#* that noise, Joe! This here pansy fanboy's tryin' ta import some kind'a Transformer that looks like a gun--AND THERE'S NO ORANGE CAP ON IT!!!"

"WHAT!!!! Quick, we gots ta get that sumbitch!"
