Movie Megatron?

This is the one thing I haven't been able to completely grasp. Why does a transformer need to look like that to be considered "realistic." To me, they look "man made." Better question is why is Hollywood so in love with robots being designed like this that this is the only way they can be made. This concept isn't new, it's just new when applied to TFormers. I look forward to the days Hollywood gets away from the robotic endoskeletal look and actually come up with a new concept.

Um, because the old cartoon had a tendency to make the characters look like humans wearing robot suits.

Did you actually read what I posted? What does the G1 cartoon have to do with Hollywood's obsession with endoskeletal robotic designs? I may be in the minority, but does noone else think a robotic life form wouldn't have found a way to cover exposed wires and hydraulics from damage after fighting each other for millions of years. I just think they have a "man made mecha" look to them.

Agreed.

*doesn't agree* You guys just want to Starscream about stuff that isn't even the final product and I think it's comical.

Well thats certainly your right. I think we're "Starscreaming" because we have a valid point but to each his/her own.

He looks more evil and menacing than any megatron before, that has to be a good thing.

Also this obviously isn't his earth form.

He really does look evil and I think that suits megatron down to the ground.

Christ why is everyone so pissed? The Transformers have had a MILLION different incarnations, how is this any different. I wouldn't have though a big purple T-rex bearing the name Megatron would be appealing, but he's 1000 times more interesting then his namesake.

and if all of us can accept Optimus Primal as a monkey then this should be nothing. G1 Megs never had that interesting of a design to begin with. He looked like Robert Tilton.

However, this megs looks naked!

What point though? That you guys are only G1 fans, because that's the only point I'm seeing made?

just give it a fricking arm cannon and it will be megatron. Anything else is "generic evil alien robot"

Nobody accepts an incarnation of Megatron that lacks,at minimum, a fricking huge arm cannon.

Nobody?

I love the movie designs, but I at least understand the backlash about Starscream and Prime. Megs is the only one that shouldn't be expected to stand on tradition. Why all the hate?

And these are the figures that you immediately think of when someone says the name Megatron???? I don't know about you, but I hear Megatron, I think the classic, 1984 G1 Megs, automatically. I am willing to bet that if the general public remembers who Megs is, then that is the incarnation that they picture as well. Not this other weird... thing. But who knows, maybe in another 20 yrs the '07 movie will be the most recognizable Megatron ever. It could happen.

When someone says the name Megatron, I use the context of the conversation to deduce which one we're talking about instead of jumping to a conclusion. Or, if I just walked in, I ask for clarification.

There is no ONE Megatron to me.

Or one Prime or Starscream for that matter.

I like some versions more than others, but I see room for all of them under the umbrella of "The Transformers". And I hope we just continue to get more and varied versions to stuff under that umbrella.

Do you need to strip away your skin in order to know that you have muscle tissue, veins, tendons, and bones underneath it?

organic lifeforms and mechanical robots are apples and oranges, Mike. one is naturally occuring, the other has to be built from inorganic materials.

Hollywood's obsession with endoskeletal robotic designs?

i said this somewhere before but the purpose is to make the robots look funtional as opposed to a bunch of empty metal containers connected by pipes and wires that are animated by a magical force. just compair the robots from "I, Robot" and Pixar's "Robots". which design asthetic looks more realistic?

I understand what your saying, but your limiting your "realistic" viewpoint to what can be created by man. "If" TFormers actually existed, your talking about an alien race that has existed for alot longer than humanity. A robotic race could evolve rapidly and it would seems like common sense to assume they would have an armored appearance. Humanity may not be able to damage these exoskeletal bodies, but I'm assuming they could damage each other easily without more protection.

This has turned into a nice discussion with the example of a few people. Thanks for the calm and rational debate.
