Why is Rebirth so hated?

Um... Fortress Maximus IS Generation 1. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Brave max=fort max

Just with different colors.

*changes anyway.* :roll

You have still echoed my point. Brave Maximus (Fortress Maximus) is/was G1. :D

Darn you stop using logic! :tflaugh

I dont like Rebirth for a couple of reasons.

1. I prefer the idea set forth in hedmasters, where the robots have transector bodies. Theres no reasons an organic component would make a transformer stronger

2. Its the embodiment of heartless commercialism. They were going to make a full season, decided not to, didn't think the HM toys would sell withput it, did a three part episode and called it season 4.

And we all lived happily ever after.. Well, most of us. Seriously though. Even though it was more like a 90 minute commercial, it did a pretty good job of selling Headmasters and Targetmasters back in the day. I never heard that they didn't sell.

Rebirth was teh Blot. Even its writer, David Wise, admits that it's bad. He also explains that the reason why it ended up being so crap was because he originally wrote a treatment for a story arc that would be spread throughout the series... then Hasbro cut him back to a five-parter, so he had to re-write things, and then Hasbro told him to cut it back to a three-parter. As Wise explains, his reaction was along the lines of "wtf?! You gotta be kidding me!" - so he says that a lot of ideas that he had for the series had to be canned or modified... but Hasbro still insisted that this series showcase the '87 line of toys, hence why it ended up being so crappy. It's crap. Its creator admits that it's crap! But it's not really Wise's fauly... Hasbro should have made up their mind about the length of the series in the beginning instead of screwing Wise around like that, and thus screwing around with the story. Compare Rebirth with Transformers Zone, for example. Zone was a series that lasted an entire ONE episode, yet because the writers knew that it would only be an episode long, they wrote a story that could easily be contained with a single episode, yet was able to showcase a lot of toys at the same time. I think people can do much better work when their objectives are made clear to them at the beginning of a job, and those objectives don't change.

The Headmasters was a much better series because it achieved what Wise wanted to achieve with G1 Season 4 - a story arc spanning across a full-length series. It meant that characters were actually able to be developed, rather than just appearing for a few seconds. In Rebirth, a lot of characters could be missed if you blinked too hard. Take Sixshot... he was nothing more than a really trivial plot device in Rebirth. Just a weapon to shoot down Autobots... no personality development or anything. In The Headmasters, he was one of the coolest characters in the series (my personal favourite, actually) - he represented the first 'tragic villain' archetype in the Transformers cartoon, and not yet another one-dimensional baddie. The fact that Sixshot and Daniel became staunch friends made him so much more interesting too IMHO... kinda like the bond between Yuuki and Gelshark in Car Robot, only not goofy (unlike Gelshark, Sixshot was never a comedic character) - and improved Daniel's image greatly.. hanging out with Sixshot's gotta be so much cooler than hanging out with Wheelie!

P.S.: Having said all that, I don't think that The Rebirth is the worse written cartoon story in G1. That dishonour would have to belong to Scramble City!

Scramble City... *shudders*

it's true, i'm only 15 myself, but i can appreciate things before my time. i like music from the 60's, 70's and 80's. all before my time, but it's good. most music nowadays suxxx. i still think G1 toys are ugly as hell though.

Armada>Rebirth

That's great bob, but I'm looking for reasons here.  Got any?

Here's a reason. He wasn't alive during G1, so he'd have no appreciation of it versus other stuff of that time. In other words, he's a young man who sees the world through Hutner rose colored glasses.

I was alive during G2, I saw the same epesodes you guys did, but just with Hip Nineties sound effects.

Rebirth was almost pointless. The fact that it was NorAm's last attempt at salvaging G1 made "season 4" pointless - if Hasbro didn't plan to make another season of cartoons, they should had just ended it with The Return of Optimus Prime.

It was mostly to sell the new toys that were in the stores that year.

I think it would have been an excellent ending to G1 had it been a 5-parter. As a 3-parter it was still very good though.

And one should really stop when one is still on top. I mean, I did not like season 3 that much because a lot of my favorite characters were gone. I think a lot of other fans felt the same way and season 4 would have continued that trend.

So in retrospect it may be a good thing the show ended then as it was still good then (Ok, not as good as seasons 1 & 2 but still.) rather than continue to let it go downhill.

Headmasters seems to support this theory as the show started off decent but deteriorated to the end. The first episodes were kick ass (really) but the same cannot be said for the latter episodes.
