Here's a reason. He wasn't alive during G1, so he'd have no appreciation of it versus other stuff of that time. In other words, he's a young man who sees the world through Hutner rose colored glasses.

I think there is something to be said for experiencing something when it's brand new.

rebirth sucked for many reasons

 

1 rushed episodes that had no time for character development because there were too many characters to introduce.

 

2 the animation was poor

 

3 cerebros was a total Beastbox

 

4 Daniel and Arcce :puke

 

5 the overuse of the phrase "the hive" in the explanation of the hierarchy on Nebulos

 

6 the walking into the autobot heads was just lame

 

7 the character introductions all sucked

 

8 the fact the nebulons knew what humans were even though they had never seen autobots.

 

9 the crappy one liners that they said before going into battle.

 

10 the fact it should have been a five parter instead of a three parter

*explains* in a interview with the writer of the episode on the dvds he talks about rebirth and mentions that it was originally a five parter when it was originally commissioned. Hasbro decided to spend even less money on it and so he had to strip pieces of plot and character development in order to make it fit three episodes.

i myself was born after the cartoons were made in 88 buti still got to see original g1 cartoons through my cousin and a video rental shop

does anyone else find it ironic, that the episode(s) that effectively killed the US Transformers toon series was called "Rebirth"? :tflaugh

It's because it retold the beginning of the Transformers series, IMO.

Okay, I freely admit I liked Rebirth, but it definately had problems from act one scene one.

 

1: The first words out of Ultra Magnus' month after the Decepticons start their attack should have been: "Technobots form Computron." Hell we saw just about every gestalt team and none of them combined.

 

2: No Springer....okay, that is my complaint for most of Season Three. He was one of the best character introed in the movie and he got jack for screen time in Season Three and wasn't even in Rebirth. Screw Blurr as a Targetmaster. Springer should have been one.

 

3: Optimus Prime....he's a wuss in Rebirth (and he should have fricking stayed dead)

 

4: The matrix as a key to Vector Sigma!? Nuff said.

 

5: They had enough information crammed into Rebirth for a whole damned season.

 

6: The Hive.....I could go on for days about this one, but all I will say is: If their bodies are useless then how come they all look like Triple H?

 

7: Daniel as a headmaster. Yuch. With Arcee. Yuch again. In his Exosuit instead of an exo suit that looks like Arcee's head. Triple yuck. Not transforming INTO her head, but instead jumping inside her chest and her head popping up. Ultra Yuck and totally fricking moronic.

 

......Er, I could go on....and on and on....but I think you get the idea.

I still don't get the hatred for Rebirth.  It's not quite the suckfest you people make it out to be.  It certainly scores higher (IMO) on the watchability scale than RiD and Armada. 

 

Is it the Nebulons?  The lack of Dinobots?  No Munkky Prime?  What is it?

RID was a good show, a little kiddie but it was good. As for Armada, I admit to being one of the few so called 'G1/BW purists' to have enjoyed it. Have you seen the Starscream development, really excellent I think.

 

It could be viewed as an insult to a great show. as well as introducing HMs and TMs season 4 was intended to bring back Shockwave and Starscream. We never got to see them again because of hasbro :tfevil  :tfevil . I liked the Headmasters idea, but it kinda ignored Carly. What the hell was she supposed to do when her son and husbands were heads!!!!! Tehn there was the fact they introduced at I think somewhere between 15 and 20 new characters which did nothing. Sixshot!!!!Punch/Counterpunch!!!!! They did nothing, and they had so much potential( just look at HM's Sixhsot)

 

And yes god damn it, no f*ing Dinobots!!!!!!!!!they may have gotten the bums rush in Headmasters but at least they were there(Grimlock should have kicked Mindwipes tail pipe)

I was trying to say "it's funny that he gave all these reasons why he thought it was sh*t and then said 'oh BTW I wish it had been longer'", except in a more succinct way.
