Don Murphy update - movie SPOILERS

Recommended Posts

I'd just like to add that anyone expecting John Waters to base the TF characters in this movie off the G1 tech specs is probably gonna be one sad little boy on Christmas morning.

RIB/FIR :mwahaha

:lol you know, I never thought of that. Well, they gotta choose one or the other. I can hear the bitching already...

Either of the two guys playing the bluesy intro on "Chapelle's Show" would be a good Jazz, I'd bet.  :tflaugh

(I'm only half kidding... it might actually be a good idea.)

Or David Alan Grier's old blues guy from In Living Color:

"I got shot by a Decepticon! Wrote a song about it! Like to hear it? Here it goes:

Iiiiiiii gaaaaaaaaat shaaaaaaaaaaaat anmaranamnamaaa.... haaiiieeeeeeeee!!"

:rofl

These guys stole my money. Wrote a song about it. Wanna hear it? Hear it goes.

:note Them hoodlums dun stole all my pennies. Hiiiiiiiiiiii yiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii yiiiiiiiiiiiiiii :note

Thank you very much

According to his tech spec, Soundwave "reads minds" by processing the electrical impluses in their neurons. This has absolutely nothing to do with his cassette deck alt mode whatsoever.

In addition, I have to agree that a giant robot turning into a tiny, 20 year obselete piece of technology is just simply stupid for a modern day, live action film. Like the X-men's gaudy costumes being toned down in those flicks.. certain things just don't pan over to the big screen well. Cassette-wave is one of them. Personally, I think something along the lines of a communications van (think of those trucks CNN and the like have) is far better suited. So long as the robot mode is reasonably Soundwave-ish (and like the Alternators have proven.. you really just need the head sculpt and maybe a splash of color)... I think that's perfectly fine.

That sounds about right. Realistically, in a war being held in todays world, being able to send and recieve sattelite signals would be a lot more of an advantage than mind reading anyway.

Although G1 Soundwave is one of my favorite characters, complaining about him not being a micro-cassette recorder is like complaining that today's cars aren't pulled by horses.

:thumb Great analogy!

Okay, when did Soundwave even read minds? I can't remember him ever doing it. What was it, one episode of season one? And you people are taking it as canon for some reason? The Autobots FLEW and did all kinds of crazy stuff in the first season that they never did again! You can't take that crap seriously, and you certainly can't expect it to be honored in a feature film.

It's in his tech specs. He only used that ability in one episode of the cartoon, "War of the Dinobots." I guess you could also say that he used it in "Atlantis, Arise!" to read Nergil's telepathic communication, but that's a bit more speculative.

DAMN I am a dork.... :redface

Might want to make a quick note that it's John ROGERS writing this film. Not the guy that did Hairspray.

Gawd, what a movie THAT would be. :eek

You beat me to it. In his Tech Specs he has the ability to read minds.

Nope.. it's in his tech spec.

It's also a stupid power to try to translate to the big screen, IMO.

However, I think the techs are a good place to start as a basis for characterization in the movie... they're good little personality snippits as opposed to the cartoon which had little to none for most characters. Like the other comic property movies of late... at least somewhat basing them on original media will make them identifiable. :nuts

Out of interet, does it say anywhere he can read HUMAN minds? I always assumed it was restricted to Transformers.
