Don Murphy update - movie SPOILERS

Soundwave as a pimped-out low-rider school bus would rock.

As long as he's blue.

Though I guess that would make him a prison bus or something.

I think what everyone's forgetting here is that if mass shifting goes it'll affect his telepathy, and as well all know with soundwave, he was one of those characters where his abilities heavily tied in with his character. That was where my question was aimed- have the rough alt mode changes that have been made had too drastic effect on his character?

but if his alt mode is still tied to communications I dont think it would be an issue. Like if he was a satvan (ala towline) he could still have surveilance powers

I don't see the connection between mass shifting/his alt mode and telepathy. What is it about being a microcassette recorder that makes a TF able to read another TF's mind? Anyway, as I recall he only used that once, with the Dinobots.

Soundwave's real function was intelligence gathering, which he mainly used his little buddies for anyway. As long as he stays in that basic role, I think it'll be the character we're all used to.

That and if he has that creepy robotic voice. Frank Welker did it. His voice was put through some kind of filter that made it all evil and robotic sounding.

Yeah but that wouldn't be so hard to reproduce. All that is is the "Dr. Claw" voice run through a vocoder. Anyone could do that.

(It was the best idea the voice directors had though.)

Yeah it is the Dr. Claw voice. In the episode "Roll For It" he says "Excellent Ravage." and the vocoder was left out so you hear the Dr. Claw voice. :thumb

Still, Frank Welker is the most talented voice actor in the business. Although I think David Kaye in Beast Wars is the best Megatron ever. For some reason though, reading the lines for Megatron for the dubbed over Energon/Armada cartoon doesn't convey a fraction of the emotion displayed in Beast Wars.

(It's just too bad that Chris Latta is no longer with us... :tfsad)

Yes, but Michael Dobson doesn't do a bad Starscream either. :thumb

I agree. Soundwave is the CIA director for the Decepticons. Recon, Recon, Recon. Intelligence gathering is his game. As long as he has a cool alt mode and minions to carry out recon/demolition work, I am happy. Although if his weapon emits some kind of sonic blast that would be sweet too.

If we get too worried about finer details like telepathy (although I also don't understand why in a live-action movie a telepathic has to also mass shape shift) and symbiotic relationships, the next thing we are going to want is Optimus and Roller doing missions together in the movie!

Besides if DM gave Soundwave all his cartoon powers, the general public would be wondering why Megatron is in charge and not Soundwave. That reminds me of the "In Living Color" skit where Spock (DAG) wonders why Kirk (JC) is in charge and he is second in command.

Remember this is a movie being made on the the enthusiasm of TF fans for the general public. Massive shape shifting is out!

He's the guy that did Terrorsaur isn't he? He did the voice for Starscream in the Beast Wars episode Possession right?

If that's him, he's pretty good. Unfortunately though, no one can really do that Starscream shreik like Chris Latta. Amazingly enougth; I had forgot about this until Madhammer and a few others told me; Latta also did Wheeljack as well. Starscream and Wheeljack sound nothing alike. I can tell the voices that Frank Welker did (and still does), and Peter Cullen doing Optimus Prime and Ironhide is pretty easy, but Starscream and Wheeljack sound totally different. You have to give Chris Latta credi for doing those. He was a very talented guy.
