Don Murphy update - movie SPOILERS

Recommended Posts

Don, I know you have said that the classic "transform sound" is a possibility. I think it really should be in the movie. There are many people that haven't warmed up to the newer Transformers incarnations, but they remember the original G1 cartoon. To me to watch Optimus Prime transform with that classic sound and then hear Peter Cullen as Optimus would be the ultimate. I know watching a scene like that would send chills down my spine. I know it would. I think those factors alone could really put this movie over the top. Not to say that it isn't going to be awesome as is. (From what I've read it will be outstanding) I just think those simple things, especially Peter Cullen, will add that extra little something.

I was wondering what you thought about this.

Thanks

Thank you, Mr. Murphy for coming to TFans and answering the fans questions.

Since this is a live action movie, and not just a CGI movie will the movie deal mostly with humans reactions and feelings about the Transformers? Or will the Transformers have to primary screen time in the movie? Or will they have equal screen time for the human characters and the Cybertronians?

I don’t know if this has ever come up on your board. One of the things that concern me about the Transformers in the movie is the worry that since they are robotic life forms that humans will use an EMP blast to try to stop them. It's not so much that they would try that I'm afraid of that it would actually work. Thusly you would assume that Cybernetic beings that have existed for millions of years should have internal damping fields to protect them from such electro magnetic anomalies. Would we have to worry about something like this in the movie?

And I was wondering if the movie will start on Cybertron in the past like in the original cartoon and comic? Or will it start on earth with a maybe a flashback scene to Cybertron. Mainly will we see a glimpse of Cybertron in some form?

Thanks

I just want to know, well the Dinobots be in the movie?I just be happy with Slag, Snarl, and Sludge; since Hasbro didnt add them in the Energon line.

I Answered this at donmurphy.net....no dinos in movie one

gonna have to go to your site... I was given the impressions no Dinos ever, but you just hinted otherwises by saying MOVIE ONE,

or are you just a tease :tfgrin

I've got a question that may or may not have been asked before.

Will the pursuit of Earths resources be an issue in the movie? G1 was the only series that focused on this, the others had natural energon around.

That was a really cool element of the G1 cartoon by the way.

I've also heard that the reason for the Transformers coming to Earth was that we (i.e. the people of Earth) have the Matrix. Is this true?

Also, why not stick to the original story element that the Transformers went into space to clear/destroy asteroids before they impacted with Cybertron/ or they left in search of energy and the Decepticons attacked them and they crashed into Earth four million years ago?

I personally see the idea of the Transformers coming to Earth to get the Matrix pretty cheesy. According to most all of the Transformer mythology, the Matrix is carried by the Prime, i.e. Optimus Prime, and is a symbol of Autobot leadership etc.

The original story of the Transformers arrival on Earth is a great story. Also, it has never been really told well outside the comics.

I agree

which does not mean it is so

or that it is not so

just that I agree.

HI Don. It's been said many times before by people more eloquent than I, but welcome to TFans!

I promised myself I wouldn't fall into the fanboy thing and ask questions ... but ....

I know you can't name names, but how is the search for a director coming? Any strong contenders so far?

Don, I asked these on donmurphy.net, but was too late due to timezone differences, and they're more about satisfying the worrywart in me than prying spoilers (it's more a concern over how the filmaking process withh affect two key characters than concerns over John- I have no doubt John's writting will be and is brilliant). I was wondering with Ratchet and Soundwave:

Soundwave was always a character whose abilities were very much linked to and had a very strong effect on his personality and subsequently his character. With the change in alt mode and possible moving away from extreme size shifting, some of the abilities will obviously have had to have changed in some way. With that in mind, has Soundwave's new alt mode worked out in such a way that all the abilities of the original character in his original form (telepathy, sensory and communication signal perception, and symbiotic links to his minions) have the same influence on his character (even if they have you be utilized in a idfferent fashion)?

Will there be enough in Ratchet's fire department alt mode to significantly differentiate him from Inferno, and should he appear in the third movie, Hotspot, to the casual viewer?

Don, if you could cover these, I'd REALLY appreciate it :)

You will get many injokes and you will love the characters and the action.

John does NOD to the comics and the series

BUT it is designed to make $400 million which means people will groove on it who have never heard of TF before and think that you guys are cool for liking TF.

So start thinking THAT way and you will really be pleased.

Hope that helps :)

Oh, while I think about it Don, I kind of started a thread where I satirised the whole board in general (myself included) to lighten the mood back at the ranch so to speak. The thread can be found here. Enjoy :)
