Why i Dont like G1

Recommended Posts

We all agree that most don't have a problem with the first series, just the militants who shove it down people's throats. We have pro-G1 millitants who aggresively bash everything but G1, and Anti-G1 millitants who bash nothing but G1.

I think that it is safe to say that both extremes are causing a great deal of havoc in TFans, as well as other sites. Being extreme in ANYTHING causes one to lose any sort of perspective on any subject, and can give someone a bad case of tunnel vision. it doesn't allow for any other points of view, and denies any type of growth. Pro-G1 millitants may fear that if they don't aggresively promote G1, it may become lost, while Anti-g1 militants fear that if they don't just as aggresively oppose G1, everything will stagnate and be a constant rehash of the first series.

Unfortunately, all both sides are serving to do is to rip apart the world of transformers, and cause a great deal of strife amongst us. I think the best thing we can do in this case is to simply ignore the militants, and give them no audience to speak to. having a different opinion from everyone else is fine; ramming that opinion down someone else's gullet ISN'T.

Thoughts, everyon?

I could not have said it better. You make so much sense in that post it's uncanny.

Is ANYBODY REALLY a "Geewun purist"? Cause I know I'm tired of hearing about how everybody hates these imaginary individuals. The anti-"Geewun purist" crowd are the most annoying on this site.

I will always like the first series the most, and frankly I can't stand most parts of the new series'.

I always liked the idea of "robots in disguise" it was a great concept and it helped fuel my already over-active imagination. The characters were cool, they looked sleek, and it had the best dubbing/animation of the time. (Robotech didn't arrive until later).

Somewhere during the second season (kremzeek, sea change, powerglid in love) I started to lose intrest. REALLY bad stories and I rarely got to see my favorite characters.

The movie DESTROYED transformers for me. I think I literally cried when Optimus died. All my favorite characters were killed in minutes and two horribly stupid leaders took over....and worst of all nobody transformed again. (If they did it sure as heck wasn't a disguise)

For years I never cared about Transformers.

Beasties/Beast Wars was entertaining, and near the end I was watching it pretty regularly. It started to rekindle my transfomer intrest (still look forward to watching the entire series one day).

Beast Machines was a dark, psychological look into the world of a post-apocolyptic cybertron, with a battle between organic and metal, good and evil. It still had it's bad points, but nevertheless, very cool.

RID came out with a great idea.....Robots in DISGUISE. Happy that Transformers would again have an ultra realistic disguise I immidiately watched the show. Only to be kicked right in the teeth by a lame-@$$ chibi animation, HORRIBLE japanese humor, little kids running all over the place and a lame shark that was constantly crying. Worse yet, they re-used the names of the characters I liked....destroying them in the process.

Armada (see RID) had lame kids hanging out as well. Even as a young child I NEVER wanted to see weeny humans hanging out w/ the Transformers. It didn't make sense and it was ALWAYS irritating.

Energon puts me to sleep every time. Plus there is rarely robots in it....and their "disguises" are a mockery of the word.

Cybertron looks like it wants to continue making more GUNDAM style robots and have stupid kids running around. *YAWN* Mark my words....those lame kids will pilot transformers someday.

Alternators\MP OP are ultimately what brought me back. Accurate looking vehicles that turned into robots....and not just robots...the Old ORIGINAL Transformer characters that I loved. It is like a dream come true. (Hense why I am kitbashing\repainting like there is no tomorrow....cause there likely isn't).

I am really sad with what has happened to the Transformer name and the characters I once knew. I keep an open mind, and I do try to stay positive about the future, but I am constantly dissapointed by what is produced. People say "be happy that you have transfomers at all" well frankly, if the name and characters are continually humiliated and turned into such mockeries you can kill the whole Transformer line forever. I would rather preserve the memory of a long lost forgotten relic than have it continually rehashed and ruined over and over again.

If the alternators are given a decent story line, or similarily, if a series about transformers who are actual "robots in disguise" is done properly I will become a born again fan.

Until then.

I would love to see the Alt/Binaltechs have a story/toon all to themselves. I would love to see the older characters from back in day again but with this new Binaltech twist to it. :thumb

Most of the pre-movie G1 was fairly decent.. because even though they were robots from another planet, it still seemed believable.. most of it anyway. Some things like sending Ramjet and Rumble into the middle ages was a little far fetched.. it was a quirky show.. but after the movie, things just got downright bizare.. probably why I never liked tfs in quite the same way after it all.. The Diaclone TFs were the better made ones as well.. well, I think anyway. They were the only ones in the line that mimiced real vehicles.. which is probably why they're more popular.

But I do wanna say that I'm not living in the dark either. There's plenty more to life than just g1.. do I hate it? No.. but I certainly don't consider it my holy bible either.

If anybody wants to see a forum with quite a few "G1-purists" I suggest heading over to Don Murphy's Tranformers Movie board.
