Transformers Movie (Reboot)

Recommended Posts

ok... so we know that bay has ruined tf with his madness as of late. i thought lets consider what would be a good idea for the reboot. let's be serious... as much as possible. i'll start:

a)i'd make all cg. enough with these hollywood dorks. the tech is already there and a full cg tf movie is possible.

b)good voice-over artists. not just hollywood actor just because of a name. if it is a hollywood actor they need to be able do different voice than their own. talking into a microphone with your own voice isn't talent... except for the guy who does darth vader

c)why can't the movie start on or just be on cybertron start off with how the tf's started, why it sucks to be a autobot. why megatron started what he did. have the end of the movie be on earth... BAM automatic sequel.

d)i swear that if some pre-teenager is the saviour again i'm gonna scream!! if some kid is there why aren't his dad or mom there too? i don't mind the spike/sparkplug like g1 had. sparkplug was around he was involved with what his son spike (or buster) was doing.

e)we don't need to add new characters. tf history already has a ton of characters with different backgrounds.

f)if the movies are good... i would have more that just a trilogy. i'd got the route of those horrible/demonic harry potter films and bring a new one out every two years

anywho... i'm at my in-laws and very bored...

Full CG would require alot of man hours, 100,000 hours for 2nd movie (so, I've read). It took FF Spirits Within over 4 years to complete, thats between 200 workers. Plus it would be pretty damn expensive. I don't know the exact details, but googling around I read it was like $1k for 1 second of CG or something for the 1st or 2nd movie, but I think that all dependson studio, quality or whatever... IDK.

I would just rather have a series of straight to DVD (and blu-ray) animated movies.

I don't mind the live action; I just think instead of hiring a bunch of hollywood big wigs you need to hire a bunch of nobodies who won't bleed the budget dry so you can save all that money for the CG robots.

Oh, and make it very clear to these actors that the Robots are going to take top billing and if they get too big for their britches and start demanding more money they're just going to get replaced cuz, HEY! It's a movie about robots! You're important, but your second fiddle, got it?

Then hire Zack Snyder. Every movie he has ever made has been based on a book/graphic novel and they've all been incredibly faithful (especially in the cases of 300 and Watchmen). Even when certain elements may not transfer well to the big screen, he does it regardless. His new movie is the first one not based on anything (see my sig) lol. I saw that trailer and my heart stopped. The same thing happened with 300 and Watchmen.

i was thinking the guy who directed batman begins as a director.

straight to dvd would be fine. just they better not suck.

i suppose animated could be finished that way too.

Define "ruined".

I've been in the fandom long enough, that almost every NEW thing to come down the pipe has been something that has "OMG RUINED TFS FOREVAR!" and yet, the line still goes on.

So, given that if you think something has ruined TFs, STFU and let the creative folks do their job. They might do things different, they might do things new, they might rehash things and it might turn out to be the greatest thing in each case (or the worst, but at least they tried), and the line still goes on. If there happens to be no Transformers planned for next year, or the years following, sure. Then you can say it "ruined Transformers forever"...but if they come back, nope. "Ruined" doesn't hold water.

i suppose animated could be finished that way too.

Animated probably won't be ever touched again. It was co-production between Hasbro and Cartoon Network, so for Animated to be, it'd have to be done by both parties (or else Hasbro fund the entire thing, then CN get a cut of the profits, for none of the work.) (Basically, think of it like Gobots. Hasbro owns the characters, Bandai owns the Designs. For Animated, Hasbro owns the characters, Cartoon Network owns the designs.)

I love the idea of Straight to DVD/BD movies. Would be excited to see some original storyline takes on various TF subjects. (Kind of like Mosiacs, but a bit more drawn out.)

Yeah, I dont even care if they are connected either. I'd be cool with mosaic-like offshoots.

a)i'd make all cg. enough with these hollywood dorks. the tech is already there and a full cg tf movie is possible.

Well if you had a budget to rival Avatar, then that'd work. Otherwise compositing with live action would be a lot cheaper. As much as Michael Bay loves to brag about how he uses minimal CGI, the fact is that pyrotechnics is a helluva lot cheaper than recreating the same effects on computer.

c)why can't the movie start on or just be on cybertron start off with how the tf's started, why it sucks to be a autobot. why megatron started what he did. have the end of the movie be on earth... BAM automatic sequel.

The first movie did start in space with the AllSpark cube floating through space with the narrative explaining the history of the Transformers' war. Scenes of Cybertron were later shown with the flashbacks. Showing too much screen time on Cybertron would detract from the primary story -- having in prologues and flashbacks is sufficient in most cases. Remember that one of the biggest strengths of the live action movies is that it has widespread appeal to a general audience. A lot of people enjoyed the films (especially TF1) even if they're not TF fans. Some people even became TF fans after watching the film.

d)i swear that if some pre-teenager is the saviour again i'm gonna scream!! if some kid is there why aren't his dad or mom there too? i don't mind the spike/sparkplug like g1 had. sparkplug was around he was involved with what his son spike (or buster) was doing.

The Autobots were trying to minimise their interaction with humans, which actually makes more sense than having them tag along as "buddies" like in G1 (especially Daniel Witwicky *shudder*). Sam was only involved because he put himself in danger by attracting Decepticon attention when he auction Archie Witwicky's glasses on eBay - thus Bumblebee was assigned to be his guardian. It wasn't necessary to involve his parents so they kept it covert - their initial plan was to keep Sam out of harm's way and acquire the glasses for themselves (because that's all the Decepticons really wanted in the first place). A series of events then led the Autobots to become involved with Sector Seven, and thus eventually forged an alliance with the humans. But even in ROTF human-Autobot interaction is still primarily limited to specialist members of the military (NEST). Sam was allowed to try to live his own life, although the Autobots had to intervene again when he became targetted by Decepticons after having downloaded information from the AllSpark fragment.

At least movie writers are trying to come up with plausible reasons to involve humans as opposed to just, "Hey let's just hang out!"

e)we don't need to add new characters. tf history already has a ton of characters with different backgrounds.

What new characters? Other than Alice, Reedman and the Doctor (who's arguably similar to Magnificus), all the Transformers in the films come from G1 or G2. I don't like how Jolt and Mudflap were Autobots though (they were originally Decepticons) - but they're not entirely "new" characters.

f)if the movies are good... i would have more that just a trilogy. i'd got the route of those horrible/demonic harry potter films and bring a new one out every two years

So are you going to watch Dark of the Moon? If I hated the first two movies as passionately as you appear to, I would personally boycott the 3rd. I don't hate them, so I'll see DotM. :) ROTF has a considerable amount of flaws, but I enjoyed it. TF1 wasn't perfect, but it did capture the spirit of the G1 cartoon quite well.

Hasbro's results have shown that sales of Transformers saw a MASSIVE jump since the live action movies came out. The TF franchise is now more popular than ever, so I don't see how Transformers has "ruined" the franchise.

I like what Michael Bay has done. TF1 was awesome. TF2 was good. Had a few flaws and too many things that were filler (bathroom humor and the sort). But in their defense, and even Bay has stated, the writer's strike did cause them to rush the script and by the time the strike was over, the pre-filming work was mostly done. He admits that the second one was not great, but passable and is doing his best to make the third one better than the second.
