repaints

Recommended Posts

I don't mind repaints, in fact sometimes a new color can change a bot enough for me to want it. Other bots are so cool it would take a really bad paint job to keep me from buying another for my shelves :tfevil

Didn't want Universe Silverbolt cause his grey made him look very dull to me (Bolt's always been a wolf w/wings to me) :bwmax But give him some Purple and make him a Con and he's mine !!!

At the same time I can't believe how much $$$ I've saved NOT buying every Bumblebee this time around. But excited about video game Bee later this year.

This is one of those threads that gets remade very frikking year. and the outcome is allways the same.

Repaints has been since G1. Look at the seekers, prowl, Optimus Prime ect

If they didn't make repaints it wouldn't be as much worthwhile making mold for figures, sowe wouldn't get as many new molds

some figures deserve better treatment than they get first time round paint aps wise

I like repaints if they are done better than the original... and i really like repaints if they are of my favorite molds...

you're right

but doesnt a vast amount of repaints cheapen the original character in your mind?

I mean how many repaints are they going to use on that Lio Breaker mold?

Yeah, but considering they've made higher profile characters from that mold, its not too bad.

One thing I like is when they give all the same repaints in the Legends size class as the full sized toy. For instance on Liobreaker, the full sized mold got Leobreaker, Nemesis Breaker, 2 versions of Leo Prime and Razorclaw. Meanwhile the Legends only got Leobreaker, Leo Prime and Razorclaw. Now I want to see a Legends Nemesis Breaker!

WOrks the other way too. Let's see a some of the Legends done in full size. How about a Voyager Cybertron Sunstorm or Leader class Classic Menasor?

Don't mind repaints at all so long as they're done really well and make sense for the character.

Ideally we would see more remolding done, at very least they could do more new heads. I don't see why every repaint can't at least get it's own unique head. While it would up the cost, it would also probably make a lot more people want to buy them.

Swerve is my movie Sideswipe. Sidegun as Sunstreaker is a good idea.

Sideswipe himself I haven't actualy renamed yet, but I see no reason to link him to any existing bots. It's a good opurtunity to fill in a blank or start a new character. I was thinking of making him my Devcon, but it just isn't sitting right with me.

why not just sideswipe is sideswipe and swerve is swerve?

i hate swerves red, it just looks so blah to me.

It worked for He-man and his buddies

I was wondering if anyone besides myself are sick of repaints

at first i didnt mind too much but it seems that Hasbro wants to make every cent

from each mold. In a way i understand but in my mind It cheapens the original toy

just a thought

It always strikes me as ironic - people complain bitterly about repaints, but Starscream is expected to get between 2 and 7 redecos/remolds in every line. Heck, there's bitter complaining when we don't get numerous Seeker repaints (Classics, anyone?)

It's not like they expect us to buy every release. If anything, repaints give us more options. Don't like the Sideswipe mold in silver, than how about red? Think the Breakaway mold would make a better `Con? Pick up Thrust! Yeah, Hasbro's padding out the line, but I think they're making some interesting choices with their repaints (apart from all the "gotta keep the most popular character on the pegs" Bumblebee variations). And no, I don't buy everything Hasbro puts out - just the stuff that interests me - both new molds and repaints.

Personally, I don't have a problem with re-decoes and fully appreciate the reasoning behind them, but to play Devil's advocate for a minute, there is a reason why even redeco haters want a complete set of Seekers, particularly the three original F-15's Starscream, Skywarp, and Thundercracker. That is because their characters have become so iconic that they have surpassed the fact that they're essentially repaints. The other three, the Cone-heads Ramjet, Thrust, and Dirge, being retools, each with their own unique pairs of wings have also become iconic characters in their own right. Throw in Sunstorm, whose intriguing origin and personality surpasses his starting out as an obscure E-Hobby exclusive. That is why even people who otherwise hate repaints still want the Seekers as a complete set.
