repaints

Recommended Posts

Hating on repaints in Transformers is nothing new, I think it's best to really just pick the ones you want and skip the ones you don't. After all, the repaints cant be hurting Hasbro or they would slow down/quit. Which I don't see happening. I remember the Hasbro panel at OTFCC 04 was mostly repaints (not unlike recent events). It was hard to get excited for the same toy again, but sometimes the deco really will sell the mold again and again.

^ case in point CryoScourge.

They are annoying especialy when used for profiteering or a cop out, but sometimes they are all right.

I love the clear claws on that figure.

I really wish I would have picked up Cryo-Scourge.

Due to monetary and space issues, I have a standing policy that I only buy one version of a particular mold. I often go for the mechanics of conversion over who the character is, and because of that, I have ROTF Swerve and Dead End on my shelf instead of the original Sideswipe and Sideways. For one thing, their colors compliment each other being reversals of each other in terms of red and black. Plus, I dig their retooled heads, with the intricate detail on Swerve and the freaky visor on Dead End. The silver on the original releases are indeed nice, but they would have looked too plain side by side to me.

Considering that the upcoming Sidearm Sideswipe is an extensive retool with different weapons, and what looks like better feet, I'm glad I passed over the original.

Repaints are okay, in my opinion, since they add visual variety in a color sense. But it's more of getting to choose which palette you want on your shelf. However, I do agree that having TOO MANY redecos on a figure is overkill. It's almost like making your TF display look like a Mortal Kombat ninja collection.

Actually UltraConvoy, he's a retool, not a redeco. It has an all new head sculpt as well as retooled fuel tanks that become a cannon.

very True. A repaint and retool :)

i haven't read all of the responses to this but..

i can stand repaints when they're warranted.

i really hate the repaints that have no point, like the change the color, make up a new name repaints. i hate those.

i also hate the, add a new color or pattern to the figure and add a word in front of or behind the characters name.. like tuner mudflap, alliance bumblebee, defender optimus prime.

i still can't believe that enough people buy those types of repaints to make it worth while for hasbro to sell.

now there are some exceptions to each rule. like nebular starscream. i think he looks great.. however i'm not going to get him unless he's on sale or clearance.

i also wish they put some more thought and effort into their warranted repaints. like their white demolishor.. hasbros white demolishor looks cheap and ugly, where-as takaras version looks incredible. this especially applies to their new forest battle leader prime. I mean.. think of all of the possibilities. don't add any mold damage, that's fine.. but they could have really damaged prime, they could have thrown in some fake grass, some dirt, maybe some bullet holes, some simulated windshield breakage. that would've been awesome. what's with his pristine alt mode? i'm pretty sure if prime would've transformed after he got his ass whooped his truck would look pretty mangled as well.

Repaints have been around since G1. Deal with it, and if you don't like it, don't buy it.

I like repaints if they are done better than the original... and i really like repaints if they are of my favorite molds...

Reminds me of what BW megatron said..... new package same product..... something like that :)

you're right

but doesnt a vast amount of repaints cheapen the original character in your mind?

I mean how many repaints are they going to use on that Lio Breaker mold?
