You guys would know better than me with BWs, but do you think they should have used the name Transformers? Yes I know, they still transformed from a bot to an alt, but since like you said they didn`t need any G1 tie-ins to sell the show. I think the show still could have done just as well with a different name. Maybe they wanted to use it to grab some attention. Not sure. Maybe hasbro or whoever it was, was trying to cash in on the name?

JMO :)

What do you all think?

Again on the interviews, Forward and DiTillio made it clear that it's Beast Wars first, Transformers second. Heck, look at the way they did the titles on the show intro. "BEAST WARS" in huge letters, and then "TRANSFORMERS" underneath in much smaller lettering. It was meant to be its own thing, and I think it can be.

I certainly wouldn't want to pop in Season 1 of BW right after finishing "Rebirth" -- I think the shock might kill me.

EDIT: temujinvo: have a point or go away.

Beast Wars was very well written and had incredible characters like Dinobot. This show was very good although it would have been cool if we got to see a few more non-show toys in there, only a few such as Ramulus. I'm glad Beast Wars is back on Canadian TV since I don't own the DVD boxsets and I can't afford them at the moment.

I guess I need to find some time to kill and watch all these and the interviews. :)

When did Primal(Convoy II) Get a matrix? And why did they name him Convoy? Doesn't that mean Truck? Like Lambor is now a Viper?

Convoy means a row of vehicles.

the only beef I have with BW ia the total disregard for Jap Countuitcy

Sorry but I do not give a crap about Japanese continuity. Those shows sucked!

I mean even now in Energon (which is also Japanese) Megatron is willing to let Uniocron devour Cybeertron. Come on! I would never allow anyone to destroy my home and neither would G1 or BW Megatron.

Stupid Japanese writers. Think we are gonna believe that :tfpuke

I thought that was odd too! I know the Autobots were in control of Cybertron but it was crazy that he would try to destroy Cybertron after trying to take it over for over 1 million years before they got the Minicons back. I missed the last Episodes of Armada, But didn't Megs join forces with the Autobot and eventually sacrifice himself to save Cybertron?! Happy to see I'm not the only one.

Spoiler Warning

Energon Megatron is not Megatron/Galvatron, but merely a puppet of Unicron himself. He only ordered the devouring as Unicron wanted that. Did you honestly believe him to be in control after having been part of Unicron's body for so long?

Spoiler end

Now for japanese writers, keep in mind they often try to think deeper, thus creating what at times seems inconsitantsies or weird thinking, but if you look better it makes quite a lot of sense. I prefer most of the time japanese storywriters at least if they are not trying to use the clone effect.

I`m sure I`ll get blasted for some of my statements, but hey, I can`t help the way I feel.

I agree that G1 was basically 1 giant commercial to sell toys. But when I was a kid I didn`t know any better. Or didn`t really care. Those toys to me were really state of the art. And the characters i just grew accustomed to and always thought that is how they should be.

As far as the story goes from the G1 toon, There were some cool episodes and some really silly ones that I still can`t bring myself to watch ever again.

But that time in my life as kid was so magical within that show and all of the toys it was difficult to see my childhood heroes look any different. I just remember the day that i saw Beast Wars for the first time while seeing them in their bot modes only minutes later seeing them transform into these animals and monsters I couldn`t help but laugh hysterically. Still can`t get used to it. Used to seeing Optimus Prime being as a kick a$$ semi to a freakin ape. :roll Just couldn`t get used to it.

I do agree that BW`s was written better. But when you have a popular show from the 80`s that had a lot of holes in it like G1, and take what, 8-10 years to base a new story off of that and perfect it so as to not have many if any holes, it should come out better. More time to fix, polish and perfect. Basically what I`m trying to say is that the writer(s) learned from the past to avoid making the same mistakes.

Don`t get me wrong. I respect Beast Wars coming along and bringing a much needed shot in the arm to Transfomers, I just couldn`t accept the fact that they used the Transformers name and G1 tie-ins to help sell or promote this new/different look.

To me, Transformers will always be the "robots in disguise" from the 80`s.

Sorry to piss anyone off that prefers Beast Wars over G1.

*While standing here and taking a beating like a man!!*  :stone

I agree with you about G1. Some things retain their appeal through sheer nostalgia power (I still love hearing that cheesy "Dare" song in the beginning of TF:TM). But I don't think your assessment of BW is quite right.

For one thing, the writers of Beast Wars had nothing to do with G1. No David Wise, no Flint Dille, none of that. Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio knew nothing about G1 when they started writing BW. And as you will find out if you watch the interviews on the BW DVD set, they only started linking it to G1 by accident. They made a reference to a past "great war" in an early episode, and when all the fanboys started freaking out, thinking that they meant That Great War, the writers went back and did some research on G1, and then decided to make it more of a "continuation" of the G1 story.

And I would also say that the G1 ties weren't needed to sell the show. It wasn't until Season 2 (or year three, depending on how you count it) that they did any serious G1 story linking. Beast Wars was already phenomenally successful by that point. Why? Because it was simply a great show.

I guess what I would say is this: I loved (and I mean LOVED) G1 as a kid, but I love Beast Wars as an adult. I can count the "cringe" moments in BW on one hand, whereas I can count as many for a single episode of G1. I'm not faulting G1 for it; the show was written in a different style, and at a different time in cartoon history (the early 80's were not known for quality kids' shows, though they certainly made up for that in quantity). But the simple fact remains that I enjoy watching Beast Wars now, but I have to be in the right mood for G1 (i.e. ready for some cheesy nostalgic reminiscing).

Well said. :clap :clap :clap :thumb :thumb

How about I just kick yours, eh? :tfgrin

1st of all Every Maximal Leader is named a variation of Convoy, after G1 Convoy.

2nd G1 Convoy Split up the Matrix sometime during the Pax Seibertronia, and the Convoy Concel was Created. ConvoyII even has a Matix Molded in his chest!

F.Y.I. The Known Convoy's are HyperConvoy(leader of Convoy Concel), LioConvoy, BigConvoy, CrowConvoy, and ConvoyII(later renamed Metals Convoy, and then PoweredConvoy)

Well....I'm pretty sick of the word Convoy now.

I never got the whole obsession with Dinobot, he seemed like he was constantly trying WAY to hard to be the Bad @$$. I didn't see ALL the episodes, but I did see a lot of them. Did he turn down the volume later on?
