Beast Wars is the BEST!

Recommended Posts

I`m sure I`ll get blasted for some of my statements, but hey, I can`t help the way I feel.

I agree that G1 was basically 1 giant commercial to sell toys. But when I was a kid I didn`t know any better. Or didn`t really care. Those toys to me were really state of the art. And the characters i just grew accustomed to and always thought that is how they should be.

As far as the story goes from the G1 toon, There were some cool episodes and some really silly ones that I still can`t bring myself to watch ever again.

But that time in my life as kid was so magical within that show and all of the toys it was difficult to see my childhood heroes look any different. I just remember the day that i saw Beast Wars for the first time while seeing them in their bot modes only minutes later seeing them transform into these animals and monsters I couldn`t help but laugh hysterically. Still can`t get used to it. Used to seeing Optimus Prime being as a kick a$$ semi to a freakin ape. :roll Just couldn`t get used to it.

I do agree that BW`s was written better. But when you have a popular show from the 80`s that had a lot of holes in it like G1, and take what, 8-10 years to base a new story off of that and perfect it so as to not have many if any holes, it should come out better. More time to fix, polish and perfect. Basically what I`m trying to say is that the writer(s) learned from the past to avoid making the same mistakes.

Don`t get me wrong. I respect Beast Wars coming along and bringing a much needed shot in the arm to Transfomers, I just couldn`t accept the fact that they used the Transformers name and G1 tie-ins to help sell or promote this new/different look.

To me, Transformers will always be the "robots in disguise" from the 80`s.

Sorry to piss anyone off that prefers Beast Wars over G1.

I agree with you about G1. Some things retain their appeal through sheer nostalgia power (I still love hearing that cheesy "Dare" song in the beginning of TF:TM). But I don't think your assessment of BW is quite right.

For one thing, the writers of Beast Wars had nothing to do with G1. No David Wise, no Flint Dille, none of that. Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio knew nothing about G1 when they started writing BW. And as you will find out if you watch the interviews on the BW DVD set, they only started linking it to G1 by accident. They made a reference to a past "great war" in an early episode, and when all the fanboys started freaking out, thinking that they meant That Great War, the writers went back and did some research on G1, and then decided to make it more of a "continuation" of the G1 story.

And I would also say that the G1 ties weren't needed to sell the show. It wasn't until Season 2 (or year three, depending on how you count it) that they did any serious G1 story linking. Beast Wars was already phenomenally successful by that point. Why? Because it was simply a great show.

I guess what I would say is this: I loved (and I mean LOVED) G1 as a kid, but I love Beast Wars as an adult. I can count the "cringe" moments in BW on one hand, whereas I can count as many for a single episode of G1. I'm not faulting G1 for it; the show was written in a different style, and at a different time in cartoon history (the early 80's were not known for quality kids' shows, though they certainly made up for that in quantity). But the simple fact remains that I enjoy watching Beast Wars now, but I have to be in the right mood for G1 (i.e. ready for some cheesy nostalgic reminiscing).

Yea if it wasn't for Benson Yee(a.k.a. Wako the Sane) the Writers of BW would be cluesless about G1

I should have clearified in that Beast Wars did involve different writers instead of the same ones from the 80`s. I was just trying to point out that over time everything gets better. Like fine wine. :)

I didn`t see the interviews on the dvd either, sorry

You guys would know better than me with BWs, but do you think they should have used the name Transformers? Yes I know, they still transformed from a bot to an alt, but since like you said they didn`t need any G1 tie-ins to sell the show. I think the show still could have done just as well with a different name. Maybe they wanted to use it to grab some attention. Not sure. Maybe hasbro or whoever it was, was trying to cash in on the name?

JMO :)

What do you all think?

When did Primal(Convoy II) Get a matrix? And why did they name him Convoy? Doesn't that mean Truck? Like Lambor is now a Viper?

the only beef I have with BW ia the total disregard for Jap Countuitcy

Sorry but I do not give a crap about Japanese continuity. Those shows sucked!

I mean even now in Energon (which is also Japanese) Megatron is willing to let Uniocron devour Cybeertron. Come on! I would never allow anyone to destroy my home and neither would G1 or BW Megatron.

Stupid Japanese writers. Think we are gonna believe that :tfpuke

What do you all think?

I think with Optimus Primal looking like Prime Facially and Megatron resembling G1 Megs, the fact that Hasbro and Takara produced them and that fact they transformed more than gave them reason to be called transformers. That would suck if they weren't part of the Universe. If they weren't called Transformers I would have passed them off as lame copy cats like that Dinosaur transformer show that came out, where the you could see their skeleton.

Another character that cracked me up was Inferno, with his "For the Royalty!!!" and addressing Megatron with "Yes, my Queen!"

Inferno was my favorite (obviously). Cracked me up every time he was on screen.

His best lines were in "Coming of the Fuzors" part 1:

"Waa-hahahaha! Fool! Pain is my friend! Allow me to introduce you to it!"

"Insolent worms. Burrrnnn in the fires of Inferno!"

and from "Other Visits" part 1:

"I don't Rock and Roll, I burn!"

::Easy on the new guy::

Inferno!!

He makes the best entrances, and his exchanges with Megatron are a sheer riot.

"THOSE WHO OPPOSE THE ROYALTY WILL BUUURRN!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

:thumb

Fav Waspinator line:

WHOOO DAAAARRREEESSS AATTAACK WAASPIINAATOOORRR!!!!!!

I thought that was odd too! I know the Autobots were in control of Cybertron but it was crazy that he would try to destroy Cybertron after trying to take it over for over 1 million years before they got the Minicons back. I missed the last Episodes of Armada, But didn't Megs join forces with the Autobot and eventually sacrifice himself to save Cybertron?! Happy to see I'm not the only one.

we do owe alot to beast wars ,because it was the atomic missle that blew the dooors open for the return of g1 and let the little kiddies know how much cooler our cartoons where than theirs :tfgrin BEAST WARS RULES !!!!!!! :clap :clap :clap :clap :thumb
