25th Anniversary Optimus Prime In-Package

Recommended Posts

Weird that we're getting a blue Roller.

They specifically said in the initial release we'd be getting a silver Roller. Could they have just used an earlier release for these shots with blue Roller? Therefore, is it possible we'll be getting the long stacks eventually?

I don't know, nor do I care. I won't be getting this. The only thing that would've tipped the scale for me is if he had the axe from the 2003 Japanese reissue... I thought he might, since the DVD art features it so prominently. Ah well.

Actually, all re-issue rollers are molded in blue, though some are painted silver to match the cartoon and first release. Roller made the switch to blue in '85 and stayed that way through G2. My first Prime was an '85 (rub sign, skinny riffle that didn't fit his hands anymore, etc) so I didn't mind when my New Year's Convoy had a blue one. Since all the transparent pieces on that version are blue as well, it gave the components/inhabitants of his Combat Deck a cool new look.

Just like with the whole Power Rangers Megazords versus Sentai mecha debate, the ones complaining the loudest are the ones who have the resources to buy the "correct" imports.

"No! They took the lights out of the fists of the Jungle Pride Megazord! Now it doesn't glow like the GekiTouja like I already have! Bandai sucks!"

"No! They chopped off 25th Anniversary Prime's smokestacks! Now it doesn't look like my Encore Convoy, New Year's Convoy, and my original G1 Prime! Hasbro sucks!"

lol too true dude too true !

hasbro obviously has no idea what the target demographic of this thing is.

Actually I think Hasbro knows exactly what the target demographic is - dudes our age who aren't geeks and who haven't been keeping up with Transformers, but have had their nostalgia reinvigorated thanks to the movie, and who don't already know how many G1 Prime figure options there are out there or who will even think to look at the smokestack length before purchasing (and may not even notice it after the fact) and who will gladly trade their money to feel like a kid again, especially with the enclosed DVD and comic which we also don't need because, again, we all already own copies of that stuff, but the target demo does not.

This is not a fan item, so making it hard to find by marketing it as an "adult collectible" is counter productive. This needs a general release because it isn't targeting fans - it is for the guy who used to play Transformers with you when you were kids, not the guy who will still play Transformers with you now that we're adults.

Everyone move along, nothing to see here.

i'm sorry, i'm a bitter fanboy, at least i recognize the reasoning behind the short stacks. :P

and another :pfx

you can bitch if you don't already have a long-stacked G1 Prime

i have a long stacks g2 prime :D

Police Box Travel:

*snip*but yes, if Hasbro just made the age rating from 3 and up to 5 and up, it changes those poking hazadrs*snip*

WRONG! This IS ages 5+ look at the box.

I bet it was an incident that happened WITH a G1 Optimus Prime. So G1 Optimus Prime was legally made to lose his stacks from then on. If you look at the classics dlx Optimus Prime, he has plastic stacks that are almost as big as the original. So im betting its just a law on this ONE Transformer. Becuase of the hazzard this ONE Transformer caused.

Also, ages 3 & up have longer stacks for a G1 Prime?? I knew for MP-01 but never knew about the original.

About this toy, i will most likely get it for the simple fact its easier then ordering an Encore from Japan or paying REALLY high import prices. But i REALLY like the Encore line so i may get one of those instead. Or i'll get both :P The stacks are concern to me but if i can replace them with repro stacks then I'm fine. The comic and dvd + Cullens voice is worth it imo. So is the Encore with its nice G1-esq packaging AND the New Years one is :awsum

Universe 25th anv Optimus Prime = :win (as long as you get repro stacks) ;)

Question: wasnt the age limit when they came out 6yrs+?

fine! 10+ then. happy?

No. 'Cause then Hasbro wouldn't be able to sell the product to major retailers. 5+ is the standard for toys. Anything more and you're entering a very specified market with a limited number of retailers.

Sure Hasbro could sell them through comic stores, collector shoppes, and the web, but sales would be drastically down then they would be if they sold it through major retailers like TRU, Target, Wal-Mart, etc....

Unfortunately listing the toy as 5+, which is the right call from the business end of things, means shorter stacks. Is that Hasbro's fault? No, they're just complying with the law.

Remember, the Hasbro releases of MP Prime were even listed at 5+. Why? Because it meant they could sell the product to the larger retailers. So if MP Prime got the 5+ rating why would give a G1 reissue anything higher?

Between this and the Unicron reissue thread, we could saturate the earth with nerd tears.

you can batch if you don't already have a long-stacked G1 Prime

does pm prime or 20th anni count?

at the very least hasbro could offer just the stacks to collectors. i love a3u (and honestly, i really do understand the price), but $13 just for some g1 stacks is a bit much for me.
