Also I'd like to say that if you've never owned a G1 prime, then this is an excellent opportunity to pick one up. Although I must let you know that while it is oozing with nostalgia that it is not as cool as your childhood will tell you, and that alas more current toys (classics voy prime, Movie leader prime) are far superior. However this toy certainly has it's charm...

Well, Classics Voyager and Movie Leader Primes had their short-comings, too. They still haven't made a perfect Optimus and all the good versions of the character each have there own strong points to offer. Though I could imagine the old Diaclone version looking more than a little stiff next to the new Universe Classics. Funny that this seems to be the Optimus Prime for the 25th Anniversary line, alongside new 21st century versions of Hound and Cyclonus...

I like it... just for having a blue roller I wish it was a tad cheaper but I'm sure it will go on sell at some point

Don't like this mold of Prime for the simple fact that the hands are "extra".. and the short stacks do look silly. And the trailer looks "cheap" compared to older versions I've seen. Add to that the fact that IF this comes here, they'll charge tons extra cause of the electronic shield, and dvd, and really, this is not something I want :P

The size of the smoke stacks doesn't matter, it's what you do with them.

best response to the smoke stacks topic ever! XDDD

that aside. i don't hate this version...also...did someone mention a comic bok too? i had no idea about that, guess i should pay more attention to text. that aside. i just don't care for the short stacks. to me it's like, buying the G1 Encore re-issue of Megatron with a permanant orange barrel plug just because some kid waved it around in an airport one day back in the 80's. some kid puts his eye out with Primes smoke stacks so the government decides to throw "survival of the fittest" out the window and passes a law to protect our "future". look what happened to poor old "missle firing" Boba Fett after some kid choked to death on a Colonial Viper missle. how did Greorge Carlin put it? Kids that eat too many lgos grow up to not have any kids of their own. to me, that sort of defeats the point of natural selection. XDDDDD

I realize that this wierd law making the smoke staks on prime a poking hazard...as if there's nothing else on him that can be a poking hazard...isn't Hasbros fault, but yes, if Hasbro just made the age rating from 3 and up to 5 and up, it changes those poking hazadrs. lets face it, most kids that are five have already figured out that the electrical socket isn't that fun to play with, and two eyes are better than one. not to mention that, at $60 to $70 a pop, not too many adults are willing to give this to a three year old unless it's to throw their money away because the kid will loose every small piece to the bot (and probably eat Primes fists), and then more then likely trash it. so my question is...what's so bad about making this an adult collectable?

I never had a G1 Prime, as I'm a new fan. I might get this if it isn't expensive. Have they announced a price yet?
around $60

So I wonder if the DVD will be a new transfer or just a transfer of the beta tape.

I've been hard at work on my own progressive frame restoration of this same pilot (these 3 episodes were originally sold as a one-hour video back in the 80's). I'm having to go back and check every frame for even the tinyest combing artifact and fix them.

and very nice the restoration looks too.

I feel a little bit gutted that they're not using longer stacks, but in the long run that's no big deal for me as I could always just switch them with the intact ones on my original Ultra Magnus, I don't know if i'llget it though, I have an original (granted he is now in the state of fitting in perfectly with the transfubars) but this one just seems too expensive, even with all of the extras, I'll either go for the encore version or the music label version unless it is less than £40 when it comes out here.

Actualy, it was the kid who eats to many marbles doesn't have kids of his own. And yes, I completely agree. Yes keep kids safe, but if you shun them from every possible danger you create a who new row of problems.

Not entirely true, I have a little brother and sister, and I recall hours of fun teaching them about paperclips and outlets. When they finaly caught on, I just removed the face plate and dared them to touch the wires, after all, it wasn't the outlet(kids are stupid and don't feel to bad for them as they where brats)

And with that simple bit of logic, I understand why people fault Hasbro instead of the law.

Shortstacks Prime shouldn't be a surprise... how many times have they done that now?

Anyway, I don't look at this as a collectors' set, more like a Hasbro Congratulating Itself marketing gimmick. I'm sure Hasbro knows that every TF fan who wants one has a G1 Optimus Prime by now.
