It's Been A Year!

Recommended Posts

My feelings about the movie itself are pretty much unchanged since a year ago. I was very excited about the movie, even though I felt the robot designs were a bit over the top (especially the ugly faces). It absolutely exceeded my expectations in that it didn't suck horribly. It could have been very, very bad, but it wasn't. Transformers was no Citizen Kane, for sure, but a decent cast, especially Shia, kept the movie going pretty well. The hackers stuff was totally irrelevant, IMO, and could easily have been done away with, as well as the BB peeing scene, and the "happy time" jokes, which I didn't really want to explain to my 12 year old. When rewatching, I typically skip most of the non-robot stuff, as it really seems to drag on for too long. Overall though, the movie was appealing to the average non-fan, and we can thank it for giving the Transformers brand a real shot in the arm, which means more toys on shelves for the foreseeable future.

As far as the toyline, I am not so happy about when looking back on it. I only just recently got the last of the movie-featured bots, since they were on clearance. With a few exceptions, like Leader Prime and 08 Bumblebee, I just couldn't get excited about buying them. For many, many months after the movie, there was not much out there that wasn't a redeco. How many 08 Bumblebees have been released in just over a year, you know? You can argue that the movie toys are more grown up, totally new, whatever, but to me, they were so different that they didn't really feel like Transformers anymore, in some cases. We bought less than 20 movie toys in over a year, which is WAY down for us.

I look forward to the new movie very much. I will be there on opening day. However, I think that if we, as fans, think the second movie will be more robot based, we will be disappointed. The first was successful because it appealed to everyone, and Bay would be foolish to not see that and insure that the sequel is just as appealing to non-hardcore fans. With a bigger budget, probably more bots will appear in the movie, and the action will be bigger and better, but I wouldn't expect much if any character development for the bots themselves.

Ok happy 4th of July and happy B-day live action Transformers movie 1 year old. I remember just a year ago I was waiting to see it. It had to be one of my favorite days of my life so far cause not only did I see the Transformers movie but I got bunch of toys and huge grill out and it was just a really fun day for me, but thats another story hehe :07dance . As for the movie itself I loved it the whole week I saw it but after I had time to think of the many flaws it had, and Michel Bay. Should have had more TFs, TF lines, and more TF action is all I have to say bout it. 1-10 I gave it a 7.5

No matter what TF 2 will be much better.

To keep it short and sweet: I was one of many folks that hated the initial designs, so I cried and whined...yeah, I'll admit it. I hated the Bionicle/Terminator look of the 'bots, Prime's flames, the fact Frank Welker wasn't Megatron...yadda, yadda, yadda...but I quickly got over it way before the movie came out. I accepted the fact that you can't redo the same stuff over and over and hafta do some things new. I ended up loving the flick and still do. Hoping for an equally good or better sequel!

absolutly nothing has changed

movie still bites

bay's still dose'nt have an imagination

bla bla bla.

So you'll obviously be avoiding the sequels then.

Because what kind of sucker watches the first movie, hates it, then goes and pays money to see the sequels? Not you good sir! :D

I still like the movie. In the beginning I read all the hype, all the arguments etc. I never let it cloud my opinion of the film. That way I wouldn't go in to see it in the theater with any kind of biased opinion. It was a great fun popcorn movie. NO it wasn't the greatest movie ever made. The human actors were Meh...they were good but not great. Still it was a great fun movie to watch and still is. I think I watch it maybe once a month or two. The only negative I have seen has been the merchandising. I wish they had just stuck to the bots that were in the movie. I will admit that I bought a couple of the figs that were NOT in the movie BUT they were figs that were supposed to be. Wreckage was a great fig. Arcee was, up until animated Prowl, I think probably the best cycle bot. Thanks to the "Reign of Starscream" mini-series I had to go out and pick up a Landmine. BUT THAT'S IT!

Anyways I'm looking forward to the sequal. I'm doing my best to stay away from all the speculation and information as to who will be in it and what it will be about. As with the first film I don't want to go into the the sequal with a biased opinion.

After a year and approximately 10 viewings (4 of which were in the theatre) I still really like this movie despite its obvious flaws. Seeing it so many times I’ve picked up on a lot of small details and am confused about some of the choices characters made during the final battle. I’m hoping some of you could clear up for me if you have an answer.

Starscream lands in front of Sam and blocks his retreat. He gets into a firefight with Rachet and Ironhide and pretty much has them defeated with Sam pretty cowering underneath him. Why does he transform and take off instead of just crushing Sam and taking the allspark?

Blackout has the same opportunity. He shoots an energy beam or something at Ironhide who blocks it with a car. He’s still knocked down leaving Sam standing right in front of him. Why doesn’t he just take it from him right there? Instead he transforms and flies right over him.

And finally; Look carefully at the scene where Barricade is driving toward Sam and passing another car before he interrigates him about th allspark, and the scene toward the end of the movie where Barricade informs the other Decepticons that he is on his way as he passes another car. Did they cheat and use the same exact shot for these two scenes? If so, could this have something to do with his disappearance? (some kind of patch up job in final edit, forgot to add Barricade in the final battle)

Now, I can’t accept explanations like, “That couldn’t have happened because they can’t let Decepticons win.†Good plots and even good action scenes will have answers in the story itself beyond the fact that the writers wanted the good guys to win. These questions aren’t criticisms or attacks, I just hope I missed something that you guys could clear up for me. Still really like the movie and hope “Revenge of the Fallen†is even better.

I loved the movie but I admit it isn't perfect. And just because it's not perfect doesn't mean it's bad. Yes, you have to sit through human scenes but after taking out the bad ones this movie is awesome. Watching the DVD is an absolute blast.

I point this out because I see/hear this "if you cut out all the bad..." qualifier a lot.

If you just watch the :argh scenes in the Dolph Lundgren He-Man Movie it rocks too, yet what the movie does as a whole, is suck.

I can gleefully watch the Autobots arrival scene over and over, it's awesome. But I need watch no further than "What's crackin' li'l batches?" to remember how much the rest of the movie (excluding SOME of it's fight scenes) sucks.

If you just like the TF scenes in the movie, you don't like the movie. You like the TF's.

At that point the "movie" just becomes those two hours of crap you have to scan around to watch the actual Transformers.

I'm sorry, but to me, "cutting out all the bad" is the writer's and director's job. (and the editor's but you know what I mean.)

If you watched the behind the scenes or Bay's commentary on the movie, you could see that a lot of the plot holes were due to:

A) The script's organic and ever changing nature

B) Lack of money

C) Bay's ultra fast shooting style

I like it for what it is, a Transformers based Summer blockbuster.

Funny, charming, exciting.

If you just like the TF scenes in the movie, you don't like the movie.

Yup.

I've never watched only pieces of the film. I don't fast scan or chapter skip over any of it. I watch the whole thing. It's dumb, but fun.

Of course, some people just have a conceptual problem with human scenes because they don't want humans in their Transformers fiction. I don't enjoy Transformers stories without humans because you lose all sense of the scale and might of the Cybertronians without them (Beast Wars is excluded from this rule, because A - they're tiny and B - the show is just better written than any other largely human-less Transformers fiction).
