ya know...I think I'm going to call tru and see if they have these guys, even though I now have no money. I mean...what do I say? "uh, hi! Do you guys carry the new universe classic transformers?" I guarandamntee I'm going to get a reply along the lines of "uuuuhhhh...." >.<

I was so excited when Armada 'Screamer hit the shelves. I think the reason it was so well received at the start was that it was the first completely oriented vehicle based TF line since G1/2. I know that was why I was excited to get Armada 'Screamer, he was the first Starscream that felt like G1 Starscream in ages.

Looking back, however, the line ranged from mediocre to downright bad in most cases.

I have Armada Megs, Cyclonus, and Demolisher (well the Cybertron repaint of the mould) still sitting in my main collection, and I maintain they're pretty good toys. The rest of the line though? It sucked.

Looking back it's easy to see the excitement over it was just due to not being a Beast Era series. With Animated that isn't an issue, as we've had five previous vehicle TF lines preceding it (A/E/C, Classics, Movie), so it doesn't have the same advantage Armada did when it hit (plus, IMO, E/C, Classics, and the Movie were good lines, so it's not like Animated is going up against crap).

I may not like the line, but I have to say, its hype is for real.

You might not care for all of the product out there right now, but if there's nothing on the shelves (or the horizon) that you like, then you're beyond pleasing. In the next two years or so there will be, quite literally, something for everyone.

Waits eagerly for Universe Hound and Cyclonus.

Go for it. That's pretty much what I did but instead I called and went "Hi. Could you tell me which Transformers lines do you have?"

But after some time goes by maybe more TF fans will look back on them and see the same thing that turns us off.

I'm sure that will happen for some fans. But not me. I called Armada out as crap from the beginning - crap toys, crap show, just crap - and I was crazy excited about the idea of :animated being done in a "Justice League" style before we'd seen any artwork on it, and there isn't a single character design I have disliked so far, so I feel I was right to be excited.

Right now is a golden age of Transformers - Animated is the perfect counterpoint to the Movie line in every way: approach, design, storytelling - and fans get to pick from either with "Universe" filling in as the stable happy medium between the two that we've been previously used to.

Armada started roughly around the same time that I got back into TF's - I gave all aspects of it (comics, toys, show) a chance before dismissing it. The comic was okay - definitely better than the show, which was poorly dubbed weak written junk. Having said that, I only read a few issues of the comic. Even though it was better than the show, it still didn't grab me. I bought a few Armada figures - most were downright disappointing.

I didn't feel that way with Animated. It felt like Hasbro was taking a risk with the departure from the typical style, and the fact that it was going to be a North American production got me stoked right from the get-go.

That said, I am still excited for Universe.

Same. Armada was actually what got me into collecting again and enjoying Transformers till now. Not the greatest show/toy line now that I think of it but still fun, and show accurate. Same I guess goes for the rest of the Armadaverse shows/toys.

Animated is a fresh new aesthetic/show and as others had me excited from the get go. The movie was a great breather from the Armadaverse toys, and the animated line is great break from the Classics, which IMO are just glorified armadaverse figures with the same toy aesthetic but only classic characters

I'm definitely planning to check out some of the "Universe" figures but for the most part they feel like more of the same from where as animated is finally something new outside of everything most of us already have/own.

:pfx big time

animated just ain't my "thing" but with encore/universe/movie stuff to collect it's a blessing (for my wallet) in disguise!

....Classics, which IMO are just glorified armadaverse figures with the same toy aesthetic but only classic characters.

Just a FYI, but the A/E/C aesthetic is pretty much the G1 aesthetic as far as character designs go. So if they were going to update classic characters, which was/is the point of Classics/Universe, then doing it in the A/E/C style makes the most sense, as the A/E/C aesthetic is basically the G1 look updated with modern production tech.

Modern is too strong a word. I feel like Armada was a step back from a lot of the original RiD molds in a lot of ways.

RID was full of great molds...it was also full of G1/G2/Beast Wars repaints - that actually made it into the cartoon - so it averages out.
