So... how does Tankor = plane anyways?

I'm looking over my Octane/Tankor figure, and for the life of me I can't find the name "Tankor" stamped on it anywhere. So with that in mind I take no issue with Hasbro naming the figure "Tankor" in order to pass legal, as the absence of the pre-mentioned stamping means I can call the thing whatever I want on my shelf, and so can you :thumb

Seriously, what's the big deal? So they had to give the figure a generic name to pass legal. We know it's Octane, so where's the problem? I would rather they call the figure something generic so they can sell it rather then not selling it at all because its G1 name didn't clear the legal department.

And yeah, siburke's right. If you need justification for calling him Tankor, one of his alt modes is a fuel tanker truck.

TRIPLE CHANGER'D

Oh right. They had the same problem in RID when they had to opt for the name Mega-Octane. Why not make a new Mega-Octane?

It's very possible Mega-Octane was no longer usable as well. RiD was eight years ago, and I don't think they've reused the name since. So I'm betting it's off limits as well.

Again though, why is it an issue? Why is the name on the box keeping you from calling it Octane once you have the figure in hand?

They actually used it four years ago, in Universe.

Anyhow, I think Tankor is my favorite out of the ones released so far. Followed by Sunstreaker, and finishing off with Prowl.

I like all the transformation possibilities that Tankor and Sunstreaker has.

Tankor has his official transformation, and you can fidget with the nose of the plane and his wings to achieve differing styles. The tanker cover/scissor weapon does knock off a few cool points, tho. It'd been great if they had something to option it to act a shield. Sunstreaker has a few alternate transformations of his legs, and the Sideswipe mode. ...While Prowl...Prowl has doors and front panels that pop off, and thin paint apps. Poor guy.

because everytime you do it someone here on the boards will be sure to point out in classic geek style "uh, that's great except his name is tankor. not octane. octane was in in G1 and tankor is classics" :nerd.

I hereby hijack this thread to be the official "petition to only call classics Octane, Octane as it should be"

*signs*

He IS Octane on my shelf but why didn't Hasbro go the "Decepticon Octane" route? Doesn't that pretty much get around any naming issues they might have with other companies/products?

Nope. They lost the rights to the name "Octane" completely. They can't touch it.

Maybe the oil barons of Carbombya decided to take such a monopoly on gas, they trademarked Octane to charge Hasbro for using it as a name. :tflaugh

...That's the only idea I got.

(Actually, isn't there some look-up site to check on the copyright and trademark of names?)

We still only have the Animated toys coming out. I swear Habro thought, "The fans keep wanting G1 homages. Let's give them a toyline of poorly designed G1-named TFs and see if that gets them off our backs."

Asphincter said what?

the animated toys are excellently designed and are as near perfect to show accurate as we've had. i mean i can only assume you dont have any if you really think this. these toys are :awsum. the deluxe prime is probably the best deluxe prime they have released.

I don't have any because I felt like wretching when I saw them the first time in a store. I don't know how to say this without sounding mean, but they look like 5-year-olds drew them.

Your loss, dude.

But I'll tell ya, Animated Prowl is simply the best bike-former ever, with a deceptively complex transformation and some great articulation.

Huh...they kinda look like professional animators who work for Cartoon Network drew them...but that's just me...

I like both Animated & the new Universe Classics...picked up OCTANE this weekend! This is a freakin' sweet figure...I'm a HUGE G1 fan, but I'll even admit that G1 mold for Octane was pathetic...finally, a nice one!

I want them all, dammit. I find it interesting that, to keep with the datsun theme, they made Prowl similar to a Nissan 350 Z. But....what happened to his shoulder rocket launchers?
