Is Onslaught and PowerGlide in the same wave? They are the only 2 U.C. figs I plan on getting.

Huh...they kinda look like professional animators who work for Cartoon Network drew them...but that's just me...

I disagree. I know they were drawn by professionals, but I don't think they look like it. I prefer the designs of the original TF series a million times more.

I understand that this is a growing cartoon style, but I just don't like it. They are way too simple and way too goofy looking for my tastes. This is the kind of style I expect in shows like "Ed, Edd, and Eddy" or "Spongebob." As far as action series go, the new TMNT, He-Man, X-Men: Evolution, and upcoming Wolverine and X-Men have MUCH better art and animation IMO.

Dude, I hear what you're saying...I've got friends who criticize this animation style b/c "they just don't like it" as well. Fact is, I wasn't crazy about it at first...but the more development I saw going into the characters, within the cartoon's storyline & the action figures, the more I started to like it. I'm right there with you on liking the original TF series (no matter how crusty some might think it is, that's where it started!)...I really don't like that early '90's 3-D style of Beast Wars (even though the storyline was pretty captivating)...but to each his own.

So basically, you love it or leave it...I'm guessing you'd say your in the latter for TF:A ;)

so is universe ony being sold at toys r us, or what?

i dont think so it is just who apparently got them first or something i know they are not tru exclusives.
I don't have any because I felt like wretching when I saw them the first time in a store. I don't know how to say this without sounding mean, but they look like 5-year-olds drew them.

Your loss, dude.

But I'll tell ya, Animated Prowl is simply the best bike-former ever, with a deceptively complex transformation and some great articulation.

I've seen reviews and I understand they have complex transformations and great articulation. But that doesn't do me any good when I can't stand to look at them. I'll instead collect the TFs with great articulation and transformations that I think look good.

My sentiments exactly. I know all the work that went into the Animated line, and I can appreciate them as well executed toys. The aesthetic is just a big turn-off for me. If that means I'm missing out, eh, my loss.

I just don't see the point in buying figures I don't like the look of, regardless of how well they're engineered.

It's funny. To me Armada and Animated are polar opposites for me.

Armada had a great aesthetic, but piss-poor execution. Animated has a lousy aesthetic, but great execution. In the end I decided to ignore both lines, though I do have one or two figures from each.

If Animated's your thing, then I'm jealous, 'cause I know the line will be in production much longer the Classics/Universe. I'm happy that TF is able to find success, even if I don't like the line personally.

That said, go Classics/Universe!

I'm not sure what's going on with this either...couldn't find them anywhere else but TRU...?

Could be something like the releases we've got recently. Target was the first to put out the Movie toys, Wal-Mart was first to put out Animated, K-Mart received first rights to Marvel/Crossovers, and TRU gets Universe?

I wonder if Animated will turn out the same way. Right now people are excited because it's a new show and so many characters are based on G1 characters. But after some time goes by maybe more TF fans will look back on them and see the same thing that turns us off.

*Goes to look at pics of Leader class Ultra Magnus again*

Nope, still awesome.

Totally

I hate to seem like a prick, but the ratio of "like" to "not like" on Animated toys is very high. It's fine if you don't like them, but one can't ignore how popular they are to the majority.

*didn't like Armada toys, BTW*

But after some time goes by maybe more TF fans will look back on them and see the same thing that turns us off.

I'm sure that will happen for some fans. But not me. I called Armada out as crap from the beginning - crap toys, crap show, just crap - and I was crazy excited about the idea of :animated being done in a "Justice League" style before we'd seen any artwork on it, and there isn't a single character design I have disliked so far, so I feel I was right to be excited.

Maybe someday it'll all feel "old" to me, and I'll be posting in defense of the new hotness, but right now is a golden age of Transformers - Animated is the perfect counterpoint to the Movie line in every way: approach, design, storytelling - and fans get to pick from either with "Universe" filling in as the stable happy medium between the two that we've been previously used to.

You might not care for all of the product out there right now, but if there's nothing on the shelves (or the horizon) that you like, then you're beyond pleasing. In the next two years or so there will be, quite literally, something for everyone.
