Post-TF Movie Analysis

All I know is, everyone will be rushing out to buy the most l33t version on DVD in two weeks.

This comment would be an example of the soul-wearying polarized mindset I was referring to... there is a spectrum of opinion on the movie, not just two buckets with "hate" on one and "love" on the other. Goodness knows we don't only ever buy something if we totally completely absolutely love it 100%.

BTW $9.11 of every TF DVD purchase goes to WTC survivors

People that think this movie has flaw are corect it has a poor plot. But damn gotta love those BOTS and the action.

This movie works despite the plot problem. It's kind of like Hot Fuzz, it works well up until the point where

while confronting the town's people Danny stabs Angel then goes to dump his body. Only to reveal Danny didn't kill Angel, and Danny has nothing to do with the town people killing everyone. Despite the fact he just faked killing Angel, and dumping his body like he was in with the town's people.

of course the shoot out at the ending makes up for this rather large hole.

To watch it twice and put it on a shelf for the next 10 years.

I would totally run out and buy an all-robots version.

Just watch the trailer.

Just watch the trailer.

But the trailer doesn't have the Sam/Barricade scene. :tfsad

Seriously, I loved the intensity of the robot scenes, a LOT. The movie was just overly long, oddly paced, and disjointed from a plot standpoint.

Why did it take you this long to be "honest" with yourself and us about it, though?

I mean, you were being a bit of a "this-movie-is-the-best-thing-ever-nazi," when it sooooo obviously wasn't, and as a dissenter I was really kind of pissed that everyone was playing the, "if you didn't love it, you're just a whiner" card (not that you were doing that, but MOST were).

I ended up talking more about the movie with non-TF fan friends, who all agreed with my initial reaction.

Was the fan ferver really THAT blinding that so many actually believed this was a great film?

I honestly believe that the movie had moments of genuine greatness in it. The Sam/Barricade scene has almost a horror movie quality to it, it's so riveting and powerful. (I would actually like to see Bay do a horror movie; I bet it would fucking rule.) I think if I was blinded by anything, it was moments like that which were so great that it made me not think / care about other stuff. But if the third act hadn't been such a Jackson Pollock of robots and people and various noisy goings-on and had been tighter & better-written, and if there had been more of a genuine emotional connection made between Sam/Bumblebee and the audience, I probably wouldn't have any issues with the film.

Not that "a sloppy third act and unengaging main characters" are minor points.

I agree with you there. There were a lot of moments (especially upon 2nd viewing) that stood out as GREAT.

It's a shame that the things that were done poorly, were done SO poorly as to really make the film as a whole feel a lot more mediocore than it was.

I would probably love everything about the movie if they had cut it by twenty minutes and removed the masturbation joke.
