Not every movie has to "resonate" with the audience emotionally IMO. If that were the case, the 80's would have had zero movies made.

Well, I don't mean emotional resonance like OMG SCHINDLER'S LIST or anything. I just mean whatever makes you give a shit about the characters and what's happening to them. That's all.

I would also hate for you to take all this as "oh Pete hates the movie now". I really don't. I'm just being honest with myself about it. There's stuff about every movie that I would have done differently, and I'm not trying to nitpick or get into back-and-forth arguments or whatever. As you can tell by the comments that I've ignored. :tflaugh

Hey, I can't be all like ZOMG MAKEZ UP UR MIND because I'd be a hypocrate and stuff *superman returns'D*

I think that's one of the problems... everyone gets put into one of two groups. You either loved the movie 100% or you hated it 100%. At least that's how I think it was perceived by a lot of people in the post-movie feeding frenzy. So to me it's not really a making up my mind thing, as much as it is just thinking about the movie more objectively. That puts me somewhere in the middle, leaning a bit towards the love because it's Transformers and they absolutely totally delivered on the Giant Robots Blowing Shit Up.

Which probably puts me right at the "fresh" percentage Rotten Tomatoes has for the movie. :tflaugh

Superman Returns....Guhhh! That movie just made me mad. Literally angry.

It was no X3, though..."I miss ice-skating. It's so hard to find a chance to ice skate at a prep school in New York. It never snows in upstate New York!"

"Well, maybe they moved the school to California in between movies. Wolverine did ride his motorcycle to Magneto's secret forest base and back in, like, an hour."

"How do you know Magneto's forest base in in California?"

"Well, he's planning to attack San Francisco...isn't he? Isn't that where the lab is?"

"I don't know...Pyro attacked the line Rouge was waiting in for the cure...was that in San Francisco?"

"Now I understand why DC makes up cities for its superheroes. I still wanna ice skate."

I just like to think Magneto threw Wolverine all the way back to New York.

Seriously, I loved the movie. It was a good experience. Watching it over and over or discussing it repeatedly is probably not suggested.

Yeah, cuz if you watch it enough to see whats going on or Primus forbid THINK about it, you may notice that it's garabage with good effects.

I have to disagree there.

The whole movie wasn't garbage. Obvioulsy the FX shots were good, but Lebouf was great throughout, and over the course of the whole 2.5 hours, their were A LOT of moments that made me think that Spielberg really put his two cents in.

Unfortunately those moments were held together by a nonsense plot, populated by too many useless characters.

But their were several fantastic, non-FX parts of the film. Namely anything with Shia in it.

EDIT I phrased this poorly and don't have time to articulate I'll try again later.
