Actually, yes, there has been mass convertring transformations since G1. In fact, there has been quite a bit including in the latest TransFormers cartoon Cybertron.

Just not any in the 4 (5 including Animated, 6 including Beast Wars) characters named Soundwave since G1 ended...even though it's so important to Hasbro.

The general audience probably did not even know about AEC existing! To most of the general audiences, their memories of Transformers was the original series. They went into watching the film remembering G1 and the characters of G1. I don't remember seeing people in the audience in the movie theater asking when Alpha Q or Vector Prime were going to make their appearances. sorry, but G.A are not the driving force of success and failure of a tv series. Remember, just because we are TFans and know all the ins and outs of our hobby, does not mean the general audiences are going to know about Armada or Energon or Cybertron.

With having a show air at 5 or 6am, it is going to be hard to gain an Audience, general or not. Hell i am a tfan and never watched any of the AEC shows because of the damn timeslots were all over the place...but that aside, these shows just as the Prequel trilogy were new and yes were not an improvement at all. I have no problem with change. i love what the filmmakers did with Ironhide and Ratchet. I just think, as i have stated a number of times already, that Soundwaves look and gimmick (tapedeck man!) is too iconic for the filmmakers to change for the sake of changing. if they are going to have the Soundwave character in there, then they should have all his characteristics in there as well. If not, then he will just be SWINO.

You lose for use of the Angry Fan "In Name Only" designation.

And yes, the G.A. would know about A/E/C if they were already fans...but that side-steps the point that the G.A. would be fans if the status quo of Transformers was enough to draw them in to it. But it isn't and they weren't.

You're suggesting that when "24" debuted, it had no chance to draw in an audience unless people were already fans of real time counter-terrorist action and follow the genre on message boards and stuff. I'm saying that if it's good enough, the audience will come to it, regardless.

Uh....you lose for trying to draw any type of distinction between 24 and AEC.

As far as the G.A. knowing about AEC by being fans....wait a minute. if they are the G.A.....how could they be fans? and if they are fans then i guess they are not the G.A....they are FANS. The G.A. only knew about this film because of the trailers and promotion that went into it. I don't remember seeing much promotion to AEC.

24 had promotion and a a timeslot which made it easy for people to catch. Oh yeah there is also this little thing called terrorsim which this nation faced just a year or so before that show premiered which did help that show become a hit. Did i mention that it was also a well written show? You cannot compare AEC to 24...at least i hope you are not.

The only "Soundwave" characters that appeared outside of a toy form was G1 and Cybertron Soundwaves. None of the other "versions" ever appeared in a cartoon or comic. They only appeared as toys. Very obscure toys to be precise.

And?

....so nobody liked my vision of Soundwave being a combiner?

I have a theory. He's gonna turn into something GM makes.

No way. GM is limited to the Autobots. Barricade was originally going to be a Mustang, but Ford didn't want their most prized model as a bad guy, so that's why he became a Saleen S281.

So to have Soundwave as a GM vehicle would be against the set standard dictated by the film. Good guys are GM and a Peterbilt, and bad guys are whatever suits them.

I have a prediction that if Soundwave does wind up have mass shifting, people are going to have a fit on the boards and start threatening to not support the film, and then when clips start popping up, some of which might include mass shifter Soundwave, people might rethink their positions. A lot of the same thing happened as progress for the movie made it's way through the course of production.

I tend to agree with some of the more skeptical people within this topic. First, Bay is going to to direct the sequal. Second, Many of the characters have undergone extensive overhauls and are for the most part unrecognizable. So paying homage to G1 characters that mass shift is at the bottom of the list of things to do (Right after getting Shia some more toilet paper for his trailer). If Soundwave comes back it wouldn't make since for him to be a tape player in a 2009-2010 sequal. Do they even sell tapes anymore??? Frenzy, who used to be a minion of Soundwave is already a boombox. So that leaves Soundwave to do whatever. So M. Bay could make him a Black Ford 150 Van with tinted glass, that is loaded with espionage equipment. The important thing is no matter what is said here isn't not going to translate to 1 frame of film on the big screen. There isn't even a promise he'll be in the movie. But this is the future and if we are going to see him I would like to see what he has evovled into, I was satisfied with the other characters evolutions. So Im sure we won't be dissapointed.

that is an excellent point. how many people bitched about the look of certain characters and came to love and except then once they saw them in moving on screen. i hated the way Starscream looked when his image was first leaked, now i don't hate it at all. Kind of grown to like it. I the filmmakers can make mass shifting look pretty f'ing great on film. if it happens

I thought I'd made a good point. Thanks for the support.

Aside from G1 Soundwave, the only other Soundwave to appear in anythong other than a toy is Cybertron "soundwave" whoi was a compltely different character, with a completely different personality and function. A character who was "Soundwave" in name only. If you asked most people who Soundwave was, and what he turned into, they would say he was the bad guy who turned into a tape deck and has little bots come out of his chest. That is what makes his G1 form iconic

A black van with tinted glass is sure to draw attention. The "mysterious black van" with multiple antennae and nearly opaque black class that noone can see into, now that really blends in. There are reasons why Police use delivery trucks for real surveylance work instead of black vans. Secondly, you once again forget about that form being limited to cetain locations, and only outdoors. Also, The only person to suggest makeing him a tape deck was Puerto Ricon, and he specifically stated that it was meant to be seen as an "antique". The rest of us who do support the stereo alt mode with mass conversion want a larger, more decked out portable stereo than Frenzy was. I'm talking the type with removable speackers, CD changer, maybe even a DVD player withn widescreen monitor. The works. And, for the record, yes, they do still sell Cassett tapes. They sell blanks for recording and dictation. They don't use them for music anymore though.

And how does that relate to Hasbro not making a Mass Shifting Soundwave since G1, despite Murphy's report that they insist on a mass shifting Soundwave...which is what I assumed you were replying to when I typed "And?"
