Speculations on the sequels.

I just wonder if VTS and Tramp are actually listening to the things they're saying.

The last magic shrinky thread kind of proved that they don't, when it was pointed out that Soundwave did next to no spying, communications jamming, and other such things that would "require" an alt mode that can't move and somehow can fit inside any room despite the giant walking robot being 20 feet higher than the doorways.

My sentiments exactly...It's a movie about toys/robots from space. Gee...how realistc is that. I mean...How realistic is a lightsaber? HOw realistic is a guy that can turn into sand, or got super powers from a radioactive bug? Movies are full of suspension of disbeliefe. I mean how realistic was this movie? Yeah I enjoyed it immensly but still...

I don't think that Mass Shifting will damage the movie at all. I mean they DID use it in this movie. Now the idea has been established so I think that in future films the audience would be much more accepting. I mean they are aliens with technology beyond our comprehension. It's not such a leap to them being able to mass shift, as far as the audience is concerned.

NOw I don't believe that soundwave should be a tape deck though. I mean nobody uses tape decks anymore. They would need to update his form. If they go with some kind of big military communications behicle that's cool. OR they could go with some kind of CD/MP3 portable "Boombox" device. Of course that kinda makes the tapes a difficult prospect.

See - I don't care about mass-shifting in the a sequel, even if i don't particularly want it for the TFs themselves. I have issue with Soundwave being a CD Player, MP3 Player, or whatever...because Frenzy didnt do the magic-shrinky and he totally worked in the first movie. He used parts compression, sure. But he didn't grow 10 times to become a robot. So I do have issue with Soundwave being some form of player, stereo, and all that. JMO.

Well, our debating over whether or not Soundwave should have mass conversion capabilities in the sequels is really acedemic. If Hasbro demands it, he will have it. Many fans will support this, and just as many will hate the idea. However, from the reports from when this movie was still in the planning stags, Hasbro was very adamant about Soundwave having Mass conversion capabilities, which also means they wanted him to be a portable stereo sound system. We will juat have to agree to disagree on this issue.

Now, specualting on the first sequel, I do believe that Soundwave will be in it as a sound system with mass conversion capabilities, which will be a major plot point in that film. I also have a feeling that his appearance, will be remeniscent of his G1 mode, though updated and expanded upon, just as Prime's was. I don';t think they will do too much of a major departure from his iconic form. I know I wouldn't. I also expect to see the Dinobots (at least Grimlock) with robotic dinosaur alternate modes, as well as the Constructicons. Including the resurrection of Bonecrusher with possibly a new Alternate mode. I also think that Prime will use the fragment of the Allspark to restore Jazz, and see the return of Megatron. I really don't think he is truely dead.

First time poster. Just a few quick thoughts.

Perhaps the thousands of years the Allspark spent on earth and its intial impact caused radiation pockets throughout the earth, pockets of energon. Energon could beome a flashpoint for conflict, with humans, Autobots, and Decepticons all fighting for it, as an energy source. While nations or Private Military Contractors(PMC) fight for the precious energon, perhaps rogue humans could use it to resurrect the fallen Decepticons and strike a temporary alliance. I liked the human involvement in Transformers, I'd like to see it continue in a sequel. Shockwave and especially Soundwave, given his traditional loyalty, should force a return the Earth allied with the Seekers. While I don't have any other particular story points I have some vehicle/character suggestions.

I really liked the idea of Soundwave as a communication Humvee. The top mounted gun, the brush guard, and the extra fuel tank could all be detachable spies, Laserbeak, Rumble, and Ravage respectively. Frenzy could alter shape as long as mass was retained, so his spies could likewise change into convenient disguises. What if Sound wave was an AWAC. Combining some of the appeal of the Cybetron stealth jet form and his predilection for communication. The Awac sould deploy predator drones that transform into Ravage, Rumble, et. al.

Shockwave needs to be some major piece of hardware, like an autoloading paladin or some such. This picture of a Vulcan cannon actually kind of looks like Shockwave with his signature single eye lens.

Seekers-

Skywarp, Thundercracker and Ramjet are definitely the name choices. For vehicle design, I'd like a Joint-Strike fighter, similar to Starscreams F-2 design, but not specificaly the same. A Harrier, Super Hornet, or A-10 would be cool as well.

For Autobots, my personal choices are mostly rescue or official vehicles that would serve to perpetuate the Autobots role as protectors.

Wheeljack- some sort of Hybrid vehicle

Perceptor- a TV news van with a roof mounted camera

Brawn- a bob tail truck for hauling energon or some type of Construction vehicle.

Prowl- as a police vehicle, maybe motorcycle, but then again I'm not as attached to GI forms as some.

Ultra Magnus- a fire turck or an environmental hazard rescue/clean up vehicle This way he could be huge, even bigger than Prime. Inferno would work to but I'd prefer Magnus.

Cliffjumper- a sandrail or dune buggy

Mirage- an F1 racer, because the Autobots need some serious speed

I could deal with the notion of combiners and dinobots if done right. I could see Grimlock as a super aggressive Autobot that challenges Prime and takes a more militaristic destructive approach against the Decepticons as others have suggested. Perhaps he could be inspired by the monster truck mentality. He could be a triple changer a monster truck with an alternate truckasaurus mode. Astrotrain could also work as the Decepticons triplechanger. I would love to see more earth movers and construction vehicles wreaking havoc like Bonecrusher, then combining to form a version of Devastator.

That is all.

For the sequel I would only expect there to only two or three new Autobots at most. Shoot, as it was we barely got any characterization for Jazz/Ironhide/Rachet - so I think it's doubtful there will be a large influx of new guys. My guess is we will get either Sideswipe or Tracks as a Corvette, plus Jetfire (maybe as an F18E/F Super Hornet).

I would, however, expect a new batch of 5-6 Decepticons - most of which will be pwned by the films end.

I would tend to agree. I think the X-Men films are a good template for how this could work out. There may have been more, but the only good guys I remember them adding in the sequels were Nightcrawler and Beast. (Well, and Angel, for all he did...) The aim with the movies isn't to sell toys, but to tell a story. So I suspect that the cast list will be kept to a manageable level for that reason.

No, I am not, and I take exception to that accusation.

right lets get things straight

Barricade was dumped in the ocean you can clearly see one of his doors saying police amongst the decepticon wreckage when megs is being lifted and dumped.

some ideas are good but far too farfetche imo.

i think a good bet would be combiners (bay said he wanted to do them) and i don't\ think there'l be much more computer budget to make much else.

bear in mind the amount of money just creating the robots from the first movie and you'll realise that if they do add combiners aside from reusing any models they have already there won't be much else

The movie was relatively cheap when compared to other summer tentpoles. Spiderman 3 and Pirates had budgets in the $200-300 million range. Transformer, which was an unproven movie property had a $150 million dollar budget. It reasonable to imagine that a bigger FX budget will be a reality on the sequel. One of the big limiting factors is probably time to render the TFs.

I was thinking that too. What staples of TF-dom are too far out there to make it in a sequel? In your most humble of opinions of course.

Nice spot on Barricade BTW, makes me want to see the movie again. Is it possible that a fight scene with Barricade on the interstate was scripted and planned, but cut due to time and money? Maybe we will see it in storyboard on the DVD.
