Speculations on the sequels.

Recommended Posts

So I've seen the movie (last Friday, I believe) and I must say that whilst it's not really a Transformers movie, it's certainly an excellent action movie that so happens to contain transforming robots.

Regardless, with at least two sequels green-lighted, we're going to be seeing a new round of Autobot / Decepticon goodness in around two years. And so the mind must turn to what the sequels will contain. Michael Bay has already stated that he wishes to introduce the Dinobots, Constructicons, Soundwave (and thus mass-displacement) and an aircraft-carrier Transformer (which I believe is a first) So, given those elements, let's throw the floor open to what may happen in the next movie.

Here's my idea - Megatron was not in fact killed by the Allspark. Whilst it did destroy his physical body, the potent life-energies within the Allspark allowed for his Spark to linger on within his shattered frame. However, cast to the bottom of the ocean and his body torn asunder, the confinement has driven the already borderline Megatron into the dark depths of insanity. For motives as yet unknown, Starscream brings to Earth the Constructicons with the aim of recovering Megatron. They build an Oil Rig (or other suitable base-like structure, possibly with reference to Trypticon or something) above Megatron's location and seek to bring his body to the surface. The Autobots consider this a Bad Thing, and so enlist the aid of the Aircraft-Carrier Transformer to transport them to the Oil Rig. After a good flogging, the Autobots are desperate for re-inforcements, and so are answered by 5 Protoforms, that crash into the ocean, the impact severly damaging them. They sink to the bottom of the ocean, where the lingering traces of the Allspark within Megatron's corpse allow them to live long enough to scan the surroundings and find alternate modes in which they can hide and repair their robot forms - these so happen to be the fosillised remains of the long-extinct Dinosaurs.

In a Godzilla-esque fight scene, the Dinobots make their way to landm, their severly damaged minds reverting them to a primitive state. The Decepticons are then free to resurect Megatron, who himself scans a new (well ... his first Earthly) vehicle mode, taken from the surrounding Earth forces intent on keeping him at the bottom of the ocean - a Nuclear Submarine. Thus is the new Galvatron born.

Shenanigans ensue in a costal town, and the Autobots are forced to turn the dangerous Dinobots on Destructor, whilst Optimus and Galvatron duke it out.

Soundwave would of course be the almost religously-fanatic devotee of Megatron, whose loyalty would be exploited by Starscream, who seeks to recover the corpse of Megatron in order to recover fragments of the Allspark. A sub-plot would lead up to perhaps the two going all Marquis of Queensbury on each other. I'm also seeing maybe Soundwave as some sort of DVD / Home Theatre system (having infiltrated the Oil Rig much like Frenzy on Air Force One) whose 'cassette tapes' would be DVD cases, or something.

So, what are your ideas on what the sequels could contain?

Well, first of all, no "dumb" Dinobots. Please, I want the smart ones that were in the comics. Secondly, since it's been confirmed that Brawl is NOT Devastator (Hasbro stated this), who's Destructor. If you mean Devastator, then yes, him vs. the Dinobots is a good idea. And another thing, the Dinobots need not be organic dinosaurs. In fact, I've been thinking about it and while I'd like dinosaurs (which in that case they should be robotic), if they were military vehicle with dino-esque faces with humanoid robot modes like their fellow Autobots, then cool.

As far as Galvatron scanning a nuclear sub, mmmm....I don't know.

However, your idea for Soundwave and his crew is pretty good.

Point taken. I knew that the smart Dinobots would be a good possible route, perhaps introducing Grimlock as a leadership potential / sparring partner for Optimus. But if they're not Dinosaurs, then wouldn't be much point them being Dinobots ;) What alternatives could their alternate mode be? Something big, strong, meaty. I think that traditionally military vehicles should remain the domain of the Decepticons, so what civilian vehicles do we have? A flat-nosed truck for Grimlock, maybe, a sort of throwback to the original Optimus design, but I'd like to see that in Ultra Magnus or something. But certainly something large, brutish, and powerful, regardless of the inhabitant's intelligence.

The reason behind Galvatron being a Nuclear Sub is purely for the fact that... well, I can't recollect a submarine Transformer, and I'm trying to think of a vehicle mode that's as close to a weapon as possible. A Sub is essentially an aquatic, thermonuclear weapons platform, so sans an artillery platform, I can't really think of a vehicle mode that would pay homage to Megatron / Galvatron's alternate mode. Also, since Megatron's remains were dumped in the darkest depths of the ocean, I suppose the only vehicle that's going to get near him is a sub.

Well, dont' forget that the movie, while haveing G1 roots (like all TFs), isn't G1. I mean yeah, at first most of the military might went to the Decepticons, but as time went on, we had Autobots that had military vehicle too, like Warpath, Grand Slam, Twin Twist, Nosecone, and a few others. And just last year we had the Cybertron Defense Team, so it's not unheard of for the Autobots to have military vehicles.

But when I say non-organic dinosaurs, I mean robotic. I would love for them to be dinosaurs, but half the fandom agrees, and the other half wants them to be military vehicles, it's a never ending battle like which version of movie Prime is movie accurate (Leader/Voyager).

There are so many ways to go about doing the Dinobots and still make them feel right, wheather they have vehicles for their alternate modes and they robot modes look similar to their G1 selves in movie style but with dinosaur stylized faces that also look like a mix of their G1 faces. Or we can go the dinosaur route and have them have different faces with the exception of Grimlock (who like Prime has an iconic face/head).

I dont like the idea of the dinobots in any sequal. On the other hand, I would like to see The Constructicons and/or the Insecticons.

As simple as it is I'd just like to see jetfire and astrotrain. A trailer for prime would be cool. Maybe used as a mobile command base that's not always with prime.

Hopefully they wont bring in the Dinobots, but the Contructicons would be great.

Aircraft carrier = "Broadside"

I'd like to see some practical issues taken care of such as nuclear power. The Decepticons shouldn't be able to use or have access to nuclear power on Earth. Perceptor could rig an alien transmission that prevents radioactive decay or whatever; anything to remove nuclear threat. Maybe Energon can be introduced as a form of clean energy that replaces nuclear energy.

Well, it would be interesting if Prowl was back. Since Barricade went missing in the end, it would be interesting to see two police cars, one on each side face off. Though with the movie rivalry of Bumblebee and Barricade, they'd probably square the two off in the sequel.

Well, they need at least the following roles to fill:

For the Autobots:

Jazz (could easily be filled by Prowl)

For the Decepticons:

Blackout, Bonecrusher, Brawl, Frenzy, and Megatron may or may not show up again in the sequel towards the end either as himself with a new Earth based alternate mode, or as Galvatron.

Now, along with filling roles, they need to add a few, and what better thing to do than just adding random characters is adding specific sub-groups. Now the Dinobots, well, there's a good chance that they might show up at some point in the trilogy, or at the very least Grimlock. Now for the Decepticons, they should have a sub-group come in, and the Constructicons would be nice.

As for role fillers for the Decepticons, well, Shockwave and Soundwave for sure, and since they want to do mass-shifting, they might be able to do Soundwave proper. And Soundwave's minions could fill the role of Frenzy. As for the big burly guy, well, if they include Devastator, that'll be the replacement for Bonecrusher and Brawl.

As for Starscream, Barricade and Scorponok, well, Barricade just went missing somewhere on the highway (probably got off on the wrong exit and missed that left at Albequerque?). We see Starscream fly off into space during the credits. As for Scorponok, I'm not sure if he's dead or MIA. I mean, we see him burrow underground and lose the tip of his tail. Now, we all know they have some possible form of internal repair systems. Now, depending on the severity of his injuries excluding his tail, he could have gone into hiding to heal and will appear again in the sequel, or he burrowed under the sand, and as he was getting away, he was dying and is now lying under the sand somewhere in the middle east dead.
