I was only saying that my TF nostalgia has boundaries... anything that came along after the show ended isn't part of "G1" to me.

I guess i dont understand why people feel its important to get DOGMATIC about Geewun.

I mean - if we accept the fact that DW and IDW are making new comics in the "G1" universe. Then it only makes sense that they would utilise the entire mythos, and integrate it.

If we accept that this is whats happening - then the only question is - are the stories/characters interesting and fun?

If we dont accept this premise - then it doesnt matter what they do - cause the whole effort is invalidated.

And to counter Pete's concrete statements - Yellow seekers and white cab primes existed BEFORE 1987. so they are either wonky abominations - or quirky aspects of the larger mythos.

Personally i dont need to obsess and catalog ever appearence of some random seeker in that appeared in the background in however many episdoes. But on the other hand I dont immediately react with disgust when i see them - at my core i genuinely enjoy this hobby. Still. Long after 1987. FWIW.

What I mean is that my continuing interest in Transformers is nostalgia-driven. I'm not being dogmatic about it at all; I'm just recognizing the boundaries of my (admittedly late) childhood. Where I get dogmatic is when I sense the invisible specter of George Lucas, sneaking in and telling me that all this stuff was really always there to begin with and I'm wrong for not seeing it or getting excited about it.

there are some figures that have come out in recent years that i genuinely enjoy. Good designs, neat robots, BFGs. New movie.

i guess i just like the idea of TFs, not just the idea of having antiques from my childhood.

I don't have that many G1 toys. I like the idea of TFs too, but again I'm subconsciously influenced by what "Transformers" meant to me as a kid. Hence the appeal of Classics / Titaniums to me... and my total lack of interest in guys like "Sideways" or "Dirt Boss" or "Crumplezone" etc.

So Pete are there new characters/toys that actually do interest you, or do you only choose to stick with G1-related stuff? If so, doesn't the new Movie come off as something you'd be less interested in? Since it's not G1 really at all, despite a few names.

I jumped in here cause you've peaked my curiosity Mr. Pete.

WarWithIn - did not exist in 1987

and Evac is a really cool figure regardless of what story hes associated with.

In terms of new characters, I have since gotten into Beast Wars/Machines, but I can't seriously watch any of the other shows. But even that is different to me since I discovered those shows as an adult. As for the movie, I'm planning to go and have fun watching it. But I don't really care either way what their angle is. For the same reason, actually -- Transformers ended in 1987, and this movie is something new.

So you don't see a Cybertron figure and buy it cause it looks good or could display well?

Everything since 1987 is new, but if it retcons or fills in glaring holes in G1, doesn't that make it a nice addition (that is IF it is in fact well done).

I guess I just don't follow your views, like I don't understand them, then again I'm like 8 years younger than you. But I just don't get how you'll love this or that for it's old nostalgic value, then turn around and watch something completely new and possibly accept it, while condemning this other part here as not being "Transformers" to you cause it's not 1984-1987.

No, I really don't buy stuff because it looks cool etc. It has to have some meaning for me. That's the way I am about everything I have. I grew up with Star Wars, so I have this "you've seen the movie, now buy the toys!" thing firmly stuck in my subconscious.

I am fine with updated versions of older stuff though, at least when it comes to Transformers. (Not so with Star Wars.) So I enjoy the Classics and the War Within Titaniums (even though WW didn't exist back then, we did know that TFs had different alt modes on Cybertron, so this is a nice "what if" to me that fits in well with established continuity).

As far as Beast Wars/Machines goes, I really don't think of that as being "Transformers". It's just not what Transformers was/is to me. It's Beast Wars / Beast Machines. The shows and toys are so radically different from "Transformers" that I almost literally can't conceive of them inhabiting the same universe. And I really don't make the connection back to G1 with that stuff. I appreciate those as distinct franchises separate from G1.

I would feel the same about A/E/C if the shows didn't suck. And that's the plain truth. They hold no interest for me. I do, however, have a great fondness for RiD despite/because of its cheesiness; also, that's what got me back into Transformers again. But that's a one-off to me, and I don't really miss the show or anything.

Okay, thanks Pete.

I don't agree with your BW/BM isn't Transformers thing. But I respect your opinions on the matter.

Thanks for giving me a clearer view into your thoughts/opinions.
