Question: If RSP made reproductions would you buy them?

Recommended Posts

I'd be totally into this. and i don't care about the colors, as long as they go along with the figure... if it's supposed to be black but grey looks good too, that's fine with me :)

For me, it would be a clear back-head of BT Wheeljack, Gun Barrel for Alt Decepticharge, Swerve head, MP Prime smokestacks, and MP Prime Energon weapon (other than his axe).

Oh yes I nearly forgot. BT-7 Rockets and Launchers.

i'd be all about this as long as prices are reasonable. i know it costs to make molds, but once you've made back what you put in you could lower prices.

i'm also sure you could make someting in the mold such as a date or innitials to let people know they are reproductions.

just my 2 cents.

Also a repro joint for the Trailbreaker/swindle head to fit on Nemesis. Maybe someone who has done this can donate a sample.

If we do actually start making repros they'll all be marked with our logo and or the word RSP REPRO and the year.

Wait, can you actually do that without getting into trouble from Takara or Hasbro?

Its a very fine line.

The simple and 100% correct answer is NO we can't do it without risking legal trouble with Hasbro.

The more complex answer is that there is a limit that they'll accept. What that limit is I'm not sure, and honestly before I am sure I'm not reproducing anything.

Practically speaking anything small-time that doesn't affect them or reflect badly on their products or company image is "usually" ok, but then again there was that really cool coffee table book that vanished...

So...

I think for us what we're lookign at doing is helping people get rare and hard to find pieces and or pieces that never existed in the first place. More of a kitbashers/hardcore fan resource and not a "lets make 500 repro prime heads" kinda thing.

We need to be smart about this. Look what we accomplished with our CyberFembot A.R.C.'s. There were many who spoke out LOUDLY that we'd be sued into oblivion... we weren't and in fact we were praised:

http://www.cyberfembot.com/legal.htm. So we have some idea about doing things right.

The bottom line here is that there really is no bottom line. We more or less have to make it up ourselves and hope that we didn't attempt too much and we didn't miss something obvious and do something stupid.

I think anything from Takara in the 1980's should be ok, Ditto stuff from Hasbro from that same period... newer stuff gets way more risky and anything that gets re-released is definetly someting we need to be carefull of.

We want to fill in the gaps and provide the ultra-rare and 100% custom for everyone.

Hope this clarifies our position.

Alyosha has gotten into some issues with Hasbro and has recieved a few letters. As long as we don't outright copy whole toys that are on the shelves, and MOST importantly, use their copyrighted names, we're OK.

From a kitbashers standpoint, I can think of at least a few things off the top of my head:

A ball jointed head made to scale for G1 Ratchet and Ironhide. I have a proto that I made from R.I.D Wedge that I planned to send to KCC, but with his health issues it never got off the ground. Perhaps even some sort of shoulder mechanism with arms?

DSCN1834.jpg

"Cartoon acurate" faces that would fit in the old G1 mini-bots like Brawn, Huffer & Gears.

Rocket launchers for BT/Alts.

Missiles for the G1 seekers. (Which cost your first-born on e-bay if you can even find them, especially the long ones.)

A small transforming exo-suit?

Perhaps even a small assortment of non-transforming figures mini-bot size of human charachters like Dr. Arkeville, Spike, Sparkplug, etc.

The question is, is it worth the time/energy&money spent. I have no idea exactly what would go into making these, but if they could be detailed & reasonably affordable, I'd be all over pieces like these.

I've been going round and round with parts ideas and what not for years.

List have been made, pool's created and all sorts of ideas thrown around.

From G1 most needed replacement parts, to the obscure.

My own personal favorite kit I'd like would be the Buggy that comes with Powered Convoy aka Diaclone Ultra Magnus. I have the original SOMEWHERE in storage, and would not only love to have one in blue, perhaps even clear yellow, but out there for the masses to get this would be Autobot scout.

List of parts I'd like to see redone, start with windshields of the G1's like Prowl and Jazz, among others. Door's too.

Standard fists.

Tape door for Soundwave

Rumble head

Insect Diaclone drivers

Police lights from Prowl.
