Japanese TFs..... do you consider them transormers?

Recommended Posts

Stormbringer is in the same universe as Infiltration. That's why Figueroa had some freedom in designing the Pretenders especially Bludgeon.

Yeah, I figured as much, especially considering that Stormbringer even shows a Decepticon Infiltration unit on Nebulos. But I think that the Stormbringer story also continues from War Within as a lot of the characters have the War Within style Cybertronian forms (e.g.: Optimus Prime). This would in turn logically place Infiltration in the same continuity as The War Within.

I consider japanese G1 part of the universe of G1 (just minus the japanese Headmasters where they seem to destory any trace of old diaclone and older tf veterans).

Star Saber: "SET!!! GO!!

In short, I know I used to discount the Japanese cartoons but that time is way past. They are Transformers cartoons (which is also the only reason why I bought the DVD's) but they are so different from the US G1 show that I must make the distinction between US G1 and Japanese G1.

One other thing, I saw the first episode of Masterforce and it seems as if the Transformers there hide their presence from humans. But after all that happened before there is no real reason for them to do so. It seems as if this show was intended to be a seperate continuity from Headmasters but the writers changed their minds later in the show.

just to interject here (and i know this was posted a LONG time ago), i've heard it said many, many, many, MANY times in the fansub community that the uk released dvd's are completely unfaithful in their translations.

i've seen at least the first 6 eps of masterforce and i find it pretty good, i don't see how it fits into g1 continuity at all (as it seems much more like the newer transformers series where g1 never happened), but i've not yet seen headmasters nor victory (only a few eps of victory).

but yea... masterforce seems to be in it's own universe, esp with the backstory of the cybertrons hiding as humans to blend in, and the destrons hid as monsters in an attempt to control people...

It does not really matter wheter you think a Transformer is good or bad.

Personally I think Dezaras looks like a knock-off toy. But he was still released by Takara so he is an official Transformer. And that also goes for the "European" figures* and even the Action Masters.

In fact I am rather fond of the Turbomasters (or Canonmasters as they were also referred to) and the Predators. Their missile launchers had a LOT of power. Just checkout Rotorstorm whose missile can easily shoot several metres far! And they were amongst some of the first Transformers to use translucent material and lightpiping for the eyes.

It is a shame those were never released into the US. I think these are just as much G1 as the American or Japanese toys. However I have got them listed seperately in my collections Excel file just as I have the Japanese figures listed seperately.

*And I know the figures were also released in Japan but for some reason they are referred to as European figures.

That's because Materforce was origonally going to be a new continuity but then they decided it wasn't and tied it back to G1.

Later in the series Chromedome, Fortress Maximu's Brother Grand Maximus and Mega Zarak(in a new body; Black Zarak) make appearances

Then what explains the Transformers hiding from humans?

What Transformers are you revering to, just the Pretenders or All of them?

you crazy :P

Thats just the artist's style. There is no logic in combining the War Within (part 3 has Quint involvement) with Storm Bringer. Especially given the state of cybertron and forth coming Megatron IDW origin mini-series.

Back to topic.

I consider them transformers, cool designs, but the fiction is somewhat lacking or down right crap. imo

G1 cartoon was plagued with lacklustre crapulence, US, JP or otherwise.

G1 comics ftw!

Poor Needlenose, Was released long after Thundercracker and co. but is much more of a brick.

Yet Needlenose had FAR more character development than Thundercracker could ever dream of! Despite appearing in comics, cartoons, books etc., Thundercracker was never developed as a proper character... which is a real shame because when you read his tech specs, he had a lot of potential to be a really interesting character. (but writers never bothered to exploit his persona)

His name sucks too.

Not as bad as "Scattor." Hasbro needs to look up the meaning of the word "scat." Then there's that Mini-Con, "Scattorbrain!" - I'd rather be called "Needle nose" than "Blot for brains!"

Quit using that damn term! Just because the transformers were cancelled in the US doesn't mean G1 didn't continue in the rest of the world...
:tard That's precisely what G1.5 refers to!! The line of tail-end G1 toys released in 1993 were packaged and marketed initially as G1, but then in the latter half of 1993 were repackaged and remarketed as Generation 2. This is why Transformers like Fearswoop can be a G1 or G2 Transformer depending on which packaging he came in! Many Transfans simply refer to these figures as Generation 1.5.

G1.5 was never released in the U.S. and was only available in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

there is no such thing as g1.5 i have never seen the turbomasters in g2 packaging and the same for any of the other exclusives
