Why do the Autobots "fly" in the first few episodes of G1 and then later forget how?

I remember Galvatron in Return of optimus Prime yelling "Its a pity Autobots can't fly!" There was Prime thinking, "Crap, how does it go again. I thought flying was like riding a bike..."

I always assumed it was a form of fancy gliding, like the way the Dinobots glide out of the shuttle in the movie.

Actually, even when other Autobots couldn't, the Dinobots could always fly in robot mode...

The Dinobots and Wheeljack could fly becuse they had wings, and as we no, wings automaticly make everything airborne.

Like this Ork-Lizard thing for example

You, know, the scariest thing about that creature is, well,... iIt probably have natural need too.

My belief is the whole MTMTE 3 parter was a first time promo and became a episodic cartoon later on.

This is a known fact.

I think it was the LSD that the writers were taking.

:pfx

Case closed!

I guess that would explain the slightly bumpy continuity between MTMTE and Transport to Oblivion.

Wow, did not expect so many responses! Maybe I should have come here earlier! Cause I am a member of the Atari Godzilla message board, that has maybe 10 members.

Thanks for the info guys/gals. I am not obsessing about the show, I was just asking cause someone mentioned it elsewhere.

being a little obssesive about those details does make it fun to share being a G1 fan with the community though--

i also always thought (in the drugged out corners of my mind that wanted to find explanations) they just didn't have enough power to pull of those curious stunts after being stuck on earth for awhile, as mentioned before. perhaps they were wearing jet packs... and we just never got a good angle.
